08.28.2003 :: I can see!

Here's what Derek got for his birthday yesterday. Father and son birthday shopping is dangerous!

A new 19 inch flatscreen monitor. WOW! It seems like I am benefitting lots from Derek's birthday gift, so I have no complaints to make. Until the visa bill comes in, that is. Meh, money!

Help! I need somebody!

Not just anybody, either. I need some knitting translation help. I'm on the sleeve increases for Inishmaan and for some reason, the wording of this has me confused and discombobulated! Here's what it says....

and I quote..."Cont in patts as set, rep all rows of each chart and inc 1 st at each end of 2nd and foll 3rd row, working 2 st before chart B and 2 sts after chart F in rev st st and all rem edge sts in sand st. Cont in patt as set, inc 1 st at each end of every foll 4th row until there are 112 st in total, working these increased sts in sand st throughout." I have highlighted in bold what part I do not understand.

I agree 100% with what Marney wrote, she just beat me to it.

Don't you just love those brain twisting patterns? They think they are saving money by reducing the number of words in print, therefore reducing the page real estate each pattern requires... more patterns/book or just cheaper to produce. Either way, leaves most scratching their heads. Not much gained in my opinion.Alissa [alissa@knittingfairy.com]

Oh, I'm experiencing monitor envy....

Wish I could help on the pattern translation. When I get home tonight I'll dig through some knitting books & see if I can find anything that will help.Kim [gibknits@earthlink.net]

Marney has come out of hiding for some translation!

"...each end of 2nd and foll 3rd row..."
Row 1 - no inc.
Row 2 - increase at beginning and end of row
Row 3 - no inc.
Row 4 - no inc.
Row 5 - increase at beginning and end of row

Continue with no changes in pattern until
"...inc 1 st at each end of every foll 4th row..."
Row 1 - no inc.
Row 2 - no inc.
Row 3 - no inc.
Row 4 - increase at beginning and end of row
Repeat increases at the intervals of the last 4 rows until there are 112 stitches.

I hope this helps.Marney [marnita@att.net]
