10.05.2003 :: Mitten weather, coming right up
Can we talk about mittens? I want to make a pair of mittens. The criteria? Women's mittens, with a rounded top, not square-ish. Do you have a favorite pattern you can direct me to? Or recommend a book? Guide me, my peers!
And I stand corrected about the goat talk of yesterday. While I was picturing the straggly, mangy goats of petting zoo fame, Alyssa and Rob set me straight. There is indeed a mohair goat. Who knew? You probably did. NOw I know. Here is a great picture of one.

Will bribing you with mitten patterns inspire you to visit Knitsmiths? I have quite a few great ones; but be warned! I find mittens more addicting than socks because they work up so fast. I'm all about that instant gratification!Dava [davamunn@rcn.com]

Love the goat picture! Rather Rastafarian looking, isn't he? And they are very sweet natured animals too. This is one of the major reasons my husband refuses to move out of the city. He knows I would replace our lawnmower with these guys.Alissa [alissa@knittingfairy.com]

I learned mittens from the Big Book of knitting. Well, it isn't really a pattern so much as a guideline of how they are made. I found it really helpful in adapting any type of yarn you have into successful mittens.
I personally love mittens instead of gloves. Good luck!marney [marnita@att.net]

The Knitter's Handy Book of Patterns by Ann Budd is fantastic--multiple sizes, gauges...use any yarn--it gives a very basic pattern for mittens, gloves, socks, vests, sweaters, hats....plus a few tips 'n' suchLeigh [leighespencer@hotmail.com]

Hey Sandy Sue, how do you know that is a goat? I can't tell if it is a dog, sheep or small elephant! It could just be a dog dressed up in a mop for Halloween!!Chris [chrisknits@insightbb.com]
