06.01.2003 :: English blanket, toupee and handles. All in one place!

I have a guest knitter today, from all the way across the pond. I'd like to introduce you to Leah's Knitting. How Leah found me and my blog is a mystery that will probably never be solved, but she got badgered into knitting. Here is her result. The start of her blanket. That is her cat Chili. I will put her funny comments on what the cat is actually doing into a small quiz, that can be found on the left. See if you can guess. So, Leah has cats, she dabbles in knitting and she obviously has a stash of yarn and needles, although no circulars apparently. She's a good person, as far as I can tell. Now, Kerstin, send the poor woman a poem! So, Leah, I hope we haven't traumatized you too much. And I sincerely hope that you will be a student at the Knitting classes that we are all willing to give away so you will keep up the knitting. Maybe even make some headway on the scarves that you've promised your family, eh?

I finished the toupee last night. Want a peek? Okay, here I am, modeling it for you.

I am such a bear in the mornings. This techno hair yarn wins the prize for "Weirdest stuff that is called yarn" category. It is not fun to work with. Any stitch that is dropped becomes part of the knitted hair void, never to be heard from again. The only hope that you have is to pick up some kind of gathered together yarn that resembles a stitch (not) and keep knitting. So, there are small holes and bunches in it. It is not my most proud moment of knitting, that's for sure. But I think I look rather smashing as a brunette, don't you?

And, would someone please play a drum roll? Here's the finished suki. Handles and all.

The professional photographer has taken the day off, so the picture is a tad on the crappy side. Can you see the handles? Well, you'll just have to trust me that they are there. They are the dark green color. I think I'll schedule another photo shoot later today. I hope Suki is free for it! My one thought of something I would do different, is to not make the handles so danged long. I wonder if I could cut them and sew them on again? What do you think?

Okay, that's it for today. That's enough, don't you think?

Hehehe...Suki has very long handles, and yeah, I'm feelin' the love, babe. :) My Suki's handles are two different colors..I had to be unique. I'm waiting until the weekend at a friend's house so I can do the felting for free! :)

And don't I know about the techno hair. I did the suki fringe with four strands of Flash and if I dropped any of it, well, it disappeared before I could do anything. :) Oh well, it will hopefully look okay felted! :)

Wow, you've been busy! The toupee looks great--I'll bet that yarn *was* tough to work with. When will you be giving it to your friend?

Suki is done? No way! Now on to the next one, eh?

Send some of that rain this way, will you? It was 95 yesterday & is supposed to be 100 today. Ugh. Kim [gibknits@earthlink.net]

Oh, geez, we've run Leah home to her mother.
thanks for the comments on the suki. I think I will cut the handles. What do I have to lose? Just a few inches! Maybe I will make another one! I certainly have time! :)sandy [ashurley@attbi.com]

For sure you can cut the handles. I made mine long because I like to sling it over my shoulder - also I sewed a good portion of the handles into the inside of the bag to reinforce. I carry a lot of stuff :)kathy [kathy.wortel@sympatico.ca]

Yes you can cut and sew the handles. I sewed the Bucket Of Chicken bag so I know it works! Try ti on and have one of the kids pin it where you like it and then measure how much to cut out. You can do it! Love that Suki!! Now to get back to mine. It stayed home while I vacationed!

i do think you should shorten the handles. i've cut felt i've done before with success. i had expected it to fall apart like stitches, but it held together fine. your colors are great, looking forward to posting a picture when you get the one you want to show & tell.

the first chemo caps i made were of chinchilla fuzzy yarn, and i didn't enjoy working with it at all, tho it does make soft cap.

Ok, Sandy. Where's your poem? That blankie was just so inspirational. No copying me, either! Those are some long Suki handles. Whose neck are you gonna wrap them around?Knits Wreck

I thought the Suki knit along was supposed to START on June 1st. Well, that means you have plenty of time to start a new one. Suki looks great, and your new hair is, well, furry. Oh, and I think you may need a shave from the look of that picture!Marney [marnita@att.net]
