01.26.2004 :: A post about being FAST!

I am the proud owner of a couple of dozen more gray hairs for my collection! Last night, around 9:30 pm, Derek came in sobbing. Crying his eyes out. Those of you with 17 year old young men, know that tears do not come easy. He was hysterical. My heart jumped to my throat. I could barely speak. I looked him up and down thinking he must have been in a car accident. I was looking for blood, bumps, bruises, limbs askew. All I could focus on was the sobbing. When he finally was able to blurt out that he had gotten a speeding ticket, I was mildly relieved! He handed me the ticket.....80 mph in a 55 mph zone. Yipes. He is leaning against the wall, tears streaming down his face, making such heartwrenching noises. "Oh, Derek" is all I could say. Then I saw it. What he was upset about. $250! And oddly enough, I don't care! He is safe. No one is hurt. It's just money. Of course, It's HIS money! :) Hey, he has to learn a lesson somehow, doesn't he?? I stand on the belief that we all make mistakes. We 'fess up. Pay the consequence and most of all, learn from the mistake. However.....don't make the mistake again. I have sharp, knitting implements that could be used against him!!!

~sigh~

OOh scary, I hope he learns his lesson and remembers that speed kills. Its scary to think he could have been crying for something much worse. Thank goodness he is ok and he didn't hurt himself or anyone else *hugs* to both of youVisit me @ http://karen.blog-city.com

Life's lessons come hard, don't they? Bless his heart. And you! Oh my stars, I'll bet you were in a complete panic for awhile there. I can imagine how relieved you were to see a speeding ticket as opposed to the many other things that were going through your mind. You've earned those gray hairs, dearie!Kim [gibknits@earthlink.net]

Man, you had my heart racing too there. Thank goodness it's only a ticket. Probably good that someone stopped him at that speed!alison [tankgirl@hansels.net]

Ouch! But at least now he has learned, I hope, a valuable lesson. Too bad it isn't manditory for young drivers to have to visit a hospital or care unit where young children hit by speeding cars are at. It's a great fear of mine when my girls are out to play. we have 2 teens in the neighborhood who speed much too fast on our streets.

Since dd is 20 we did this at 17 also. She hasn't gotten another ticket since :) I too was thankful that was all it was and I got my one and only speeding ticket at 19 so ya live and learn. You're a good Momma Sandy.

We have all been there. I was lucky with my first (and only) speeding incident. I was actually going much faster than they wrote me up for (it pays to be a 19-year-old red-head in a Mustang) and the ticket was for $15.00. There were no tears, but could have started if it would have helped my cause.Marney [marnita@att.net]

Yup, I cried like a baby when I got my first speeding ticket too. I was 17, and doing 70 km in an 40 km zone--a school zone. Naughty me. I too paid for it with my own money, and I guess I did learn something from it--I've never gotten a ticket since.Ginny [gareid@wightman.ca]
