03.31.2004 :: Spring fling!
I'm having my own spring fling of sorts.? Lately I have been very BLAH.? I can't quite put my finger on it and it seems to be lasting a long while.? Usually those sorts of things go away after a bit.? This time, it's stubborn. So, I decided that I must take action.? Which, when ensconsed in the blahs, is a difficult thing to muster. I decided to have my own personal spring fling, which doesn't include knitting anything wonderfully colorful. Although it doesn't hurt! :)?
My first plan of action is cleaning.? Although I love to have a neat and clean home, no one can ever rightfully accuse me of being a neatnick.? My bedroom has been taking the brunt of the dust assault lately. The clutter was horrid!?? I spent the afternoon yesterday being ruthless. Throwing out old clothes that hung around with no place to call home for a long long time.? I got rid of magazines and books and old nail polish and makeup.? And I dusted.? Phew!? Did I ever dust!? Good thing I don't have asthma!? The dust and clutter are extinct now. In that room anyway.?
My second plan of attack is more personal.? I must get back on a healthy eating program and exercise.? I have managed to gain back all of the 40 plus pounds that I worked so hard to lose. This has got to stop.? I can tell the difference my new, not so healthy eating style has made in my energy level.? Hello veggies and goodbye junk food!
The rest? Well, that will just have to fall into place.? I feel a pre-empty nest thing coming on.? Derek is going to college next year.? Bethany won't be far after.? It is hard when your sole focus for 17 years has been being a Mom to not have that anymore. Oh, yes, I'm still their Mom, but it's different.? It's a tad lonely.? Yes, it's time for hubby and I to have our lives again, but mostly, we snooze.? The reconnection.? That too needs to happen.?
So, time to fling open the windows of our lives.? Outwith the nagging bad and in with the healthy goodness.? And along the way, the blahs should take a hike.? I hope.

I know exactly how you're feeling. It must be a spring thing. I battle with weight every day. I need to get back on an healthy food and exercise plan, but I would rather sit and knit than exercise. I'm approaching my dirty, unorganized house one hour at a time. After dinner I keep moving for 1 - 1 1/2...taking small steps and acccomplishing one small task. To think about the entire house is overwhelming. My youngest of three left last fall for college and after years of activities upon activities, I found myself with lots of time. The empty nest can be a good thing. I finally have "me" time and have been able to reconnect with friends, knit more, discover blogs, shop alone, reconnect with husband, etc. Have a good one.Sue [knittinginparadise@yahoo.com]

I've been having that "need to get things done" stomach for about 2 weeks, but with the nice weather this past weekend we got garage cleaned, cars cleaned, pansy's planted and bike tires pumped so I feel better things are getting done!! and my bike is ready if I could just get on it!!
It's tough for everybody chickie we are in it with you!!!Cindy [d.buckndoe@verizon.net]

I am with you on this spring fling thing! I have had such an urge to get rid of the clutter. Too much of everything! It feels so good to de-clutter :)
Good luck with your action plan. You have already taken the first (most important) step in achieving your goal....We support you :)Annie

Way to take control. My neighbor is mid-empty nest - two in college and one still home. Not to worry about being lonely because they keep coming back! But I hear you - I decided just yesterday to clean up my act with the eating, and to try to get walking. I bet it felt great to have your room all in shape - that's next for me. :)Mary Beth [irwinmb@sbcglobal.net]

I'm with you on the "blahs," though I can't relate on the whole mom thing :) I've had a really hard time being motivated this semester, and I need to lose about 40 lbs too. My boyfriend's starting to "make" me walk on the weekends (he goes with me so it's not so bad), so hopefully that will give me some added "oomph!"
Good luck!Amanda [alimoges@usd.edu]

I feel your pain (sort of). I am feeling those blahs in a big way. Nothing is breaking them. Maybe it has to do with finally coming out from under that never-ending snow. Not to mention, they call it Spring Cleaning for a reason....Marney [marnita@att.net]

Inspirational! I, too, am trying to shrug off a case of the blahs. Thank goodness for sunny days and fresh vegetables to give us a fresh start!jena

I have had a similar experience this year. All of my kids are in school full time and I am having a "mini empty nest" thing. Your plan of action sounds like a good one. It is even inspiring.Kathleen

More power to you Sandy! Best of luck with ALL your flinging. :::grin:::: Exercise & getting rid of junk food (sugar!) is definitely the key. I'm low/good carbing, but do what works for you! I'm going to dust my bedroom today too - what is up with bedrooms & clutter? Ick!Bron [graymist35@earthlink.net]

It sounds as though you and I are in the same boat this spring. I've just started spring cleaning too and my bedroom is the worst spot. My daughter is leaving home (for the second time) this summer to go to a new college and I am trying to relose weight. So far I tried the South Beach diet and it was far too restrictive. It did take off pounds quickly for the first two weeks, but after that I couldn't bear it any longer. I would like to join the secret pals and I put a button on my site. Is it too late? Thanks much.Elizabeth [wombat@niu.edu]

Great plan. I like Kerstin's idea of the walks. I get a year's worth of workouts pushing the stroller around in the warmer months. If only we could get to those warmer months already! Then you can get out there and start feeling better.alison [alison@knitsmithsdont.spamus]

Hey spring flinger! Your plan of attack sounds like a good one. It always helps to start with the house. It's amazing what a few changes can make on one's outlook. And I do remember you walking a lot last summer. Start again! (If I lived closer, I'd be walking with you. I LOVE to walk esp. near the ocean.) If you ever get too lonely, I'll drop my kids off for a looooong visit. I could use the break! :)Kerstin

Walks are great. I also love yardwork. Maybe you could plan and plant a little garden, even if it's just a container of leafy greens. Almost as therapeutic as fiber activities!Melissa [lunaspin@yahoo.com]
