05.20.2004 :: Holes
Wow!? Our little Charlotte is a popular gal! Have you seen all the Charloteers Room for more!? It helps to know that others are struggling along with me. But we can do it!? We shall overcome!? I gathered from yesterday's comments, that stitch markers are going to be my salvation. Okay. Get out the unused stitch markers. I have 2 sets of them, I believe. I look in the usual knitting place, none there. Okay. I looked on the coffee tables. Not there either. I break down and look in the cushions of the couch. nope. Under the couch? Ick. Nope. At this point, I decided that it would just be faster to take quick ride downtown to my LYS. When I pulled up, the closed sign was on the window, but 2 women were standing right there. I quickly contemplated whether I would stoop to pressing my nose against the window and beg and plead to let me purchase stitch markers. It seemed like it was a do-able option. Good sense overcame, though. I did not think that the owner would be thrilled about unlocking the door to sell me a $1.99 set of stitch markers. I could be wrong, but....
Home again, with a desperate sense that I needed stitch markers. Good old Yankee ingenuity comes in handy in times like this. I spied these

?The lowly hole reinforcers? Or stitch Markers You decide
I stuck 2 together so they wouldn't stick to the knitting, and they worked well in a pinch.

Charlotte, Chapter 2
The stitch marker holes work well enough, but I will be visiting my LYS for the more conventional kind today.
And speaking of today (we were, weren't we?)? 20 years ago today I was a blushing bride saying "I do!".

?? I'd do it again, too!
Happy Anniversary* to my wonderful husband, my groom, my love!? Thank you for so much!
*and me, with no finished anniversary hat!? Scheez.

Happy Anniversary! It's so wonderful to have a great man in your life for that long (24 for us this year). You must have a keeper guy!
The quick stitch marker for me was to cut up a drinking straw into small pieces to use as stitch markers. We are so creative!
Waiting, waiting, waiting for Char to arrive.margene [zeneedles@yahoo.com]

I'm on color 5, and 16 rows away from finishing. Well, I think. I guess I ought to read the instructions to see what happens after the last 16 rows. The shawl does grow amazingly in size with the last two colors.
Sandy, if you want to add me to the Charlotte Knit Alongers, go ahead. I already have the yarn for a second charlotte. :)Gail [gail@houseofcritters.org]

Hi, Congrats on your 20th anniversary. It's wonderful you're still so happy with your hubby. As for stitch markers, I too knew I didn't have enough to make it far plus I really hate the plastic ones - they're so slippery. So...I hunt around the house for a substitute. First try was paper clips - worked pretty good but they were still bugging me somehow. Then, (insert heralding trumpets!)little tiny rubber bands in many colors at the bottom of our junk drawer. They are fabo! Just a little bit of a grab to them so they don't slip off if you just look at them and yet they still move easily when you need them to. I was thinking yesterday about everybody (myself included) about losing and gaining stitches whilie knitt Char. I know for me that I often miss a stich becasue with the yo's and psso's they sometimes snuggle up together and I knit them together as one. Yet another thing I'm being careful with with Char. But I know in the end it will make me a ...STRONGER KNITTER! Okaaaay now. I think I better relax with some easier kniting for now.Martha

Boo-hoo! Bad night with Charlotte! Got up to 49 and ripped back to 43. Below where I was when I started the evening. Ouch. Stitch markers are confusing me right now. They weren't in the right places or something. Happy Anniversary!! Love the picture, you cutie-pies.Mary Beth [irwinmb@sbcglobal.net]

Check you out! You spring chicken, you! I recommend the little jewelry jump rings for stitch markers on Charlotte. They are nice and thin and CHEAP. If you lose them, who cares? I had to start over again, too. But I'm back on track. If you can get to row 43, you're golden. (I hope!) That's when you see how the two new lace patterns are added in. Also, count, count, count after every wrong side row until you get the hang of it.Kerstin

Happy Annieversary Sandy! I wish you an beautiful day with your husband. :)
I always use little yarn snips as stitch markers because here in germany there's only one company producing stitch markers and they are so ugly ...melanie [nadelspiel@web.de]
