04.07.2004 :: Play ball~!
?
Baseball season has arrived. The Red Sox had their season opener last night. I am not a huge fan of baseball, but there are things I do love about the game. I realized last night, that I love the sounds of baseball. The murmur of the crowd, the crack of the bat, the excited tones of the normally hush announcers. I don't often pay much attention to the game itself, but the sound of the game on the tv fills me with quiet joy. The sounds of summer. The promise of lazy, hazy nights. The little league boys and girls popping up in fields around town!? Sitting on my porch at dusk, iced tea, fireflies lighting the night sky, thunderstorms (not bad ones though!), the fan whirring during the night, blowing it's cooling breeze on me. Could it be? summer is almost here Today it was hard to spot through the snow showers. But mother nature has not let us down yet. It will be here. Let's not think about the other side of summer. You know, the humid, sticky, icky sleeping weather kind of days. Let's just rejoice in the good things for now!?
Knitting? Sure!? The transitions sock progresses. Sleeve number 2 of the everyday cardigan, Dad's sock. they all make slim progress. Not enough to show yet. The peace fleece surprise Oh, it's more heavenly than I could have imagined. I can't wait until May 31 st (the end of the secret pals) to share with you what I learned! :)
Go turn on?a baseball game and enjoy the sound with me!

Oh Sandy, the sound of radio broadcasted baseball brings waves of nausea over me. My mom, dad and I would take these long road trips during the summer from Calif to Wyoming, Oklahoma and points in between. I can remember being stuff in the backseat, with the smell of spilled coffee and the blaring of the radio, "uh, could we pull over please? I have to hurl..."Marie [marieedmondson@yahoo.com]

What a great post! You made me long for summer. It's still pretty cold here, but your description sounded wonderful. An amazing thing happened this year, both boys practice on connecting fields at the same time. Of course, we're moving before the season actually ends, but at least we lucked out for awhile.
Still waiting for my yarn for the Everyday Cardigan :( I still have lots of other things I need to finish up, so I guess I won't complain too much.
I LOVE the color of the peace fleece project. This secret pal thing is so much fun. I love seeing what everyone's up to.Laura [redwhitebluefamily@nospamhotmail.com]

We had our 2nd baseball game last night. I sat on the bleachers watching my two boys with a ski coat, a scarf, a bucket hat, and a cup of coffe. Sounds more like football weather doesn't it.Amanda [dav5180@yahoo.com]

Sandy, you should come over to our house. We live across the street from Northeastern's athletic fields. Around this time of year every day in the afternoon you can hear the crack of the bat. It's a wonderful sound, I agree.Johanna [jofrog16@yahoo.com]

I never knew Kerstin was one to "schlep"...
The boys were never interested in baseball, but I was a Dugout Dolly in high school, and so enjoyed watching those games. My boyfriend in high school was a pitcher. Ohhhh my, the memories. *swoon*Kim [gibknits@earthlink.net]

Hi Sandy,
Your baseball comment brought me out of lurkdom(is that a word?) I think knitting and baseball go so well together. I especially love knitting while listening to the game on the radio. Are you a Red Sox fan? I'm a Yankee fan, enjoy the rivalry but feel no h--e, which is a dirty word in my house. I love watching all good players especially Pujols, Ichiro and Manny Ramirez. But, Johnny Damon has GOT to cut his hair.Debra [mysterybooklvr@att.net]
