06.22.2004 :: scarf it!
![]()
Yesterday, I spent a very busy and wonderful day at the parent orientation at UMass, where Derek will be attending college in the fall. It was exhausting and exhilarating at the same time. To walk the halls that he will walk while turning into a man was an exciting and I have to admit, an emotional one for me. They are taking my baby and I hope they are gentle with him! He got an overnight stay in the dorm, I can't wait to see him today to hear his take on things. In reality, though, I will ask him a bunch of questions and he will nod or grunt. Ahhh, everything will be back to normal!
Kersti plans
With the unexpected arrival of the wonderful koigu kersti into my hands, began a stream of dreaming. Isn't the process of what to make with a certain yarn fun? It has to be the perfect fit for the yarn. I have to admit that the knitting dreaming is half the fun!
This is what I decided upon.
Kersti fan and feather scarf
For some reason, I thought "fan and feather" when I saw kersti. I wanted something a bit open and lacey to enjoy the wonderful coloration. I remembered seeing a wonderful pattern for this scarf, went on a hunt, found it again and started right in!
The pattern is from Wendy Knits. You can find the pattern here. I did make a small change in the pattern as I am knitting. Instead of knitting every row, I am doing stockinette stich in between the pattern rows. I like the look and don't care for the garter stitch look. Nothing personal to you garter stitch lovers, I just happen to not care for it! I'll still love ya if you are a garter stitch freak!
Don't forget to sign up for the motherlode giveaway, if you haven't yet. See the June 16th entry for details.

GO UMASS! Yeah, I didn't know that he was going there! I spent 3.5 wonderful years there! That's where I met Mike! Woo Hoo, go UMass!
Oh yeah, the kersti yarn, beautiful... but isn't that what you'd expect from koigu?

Wow, the Kersti is really pretty. Do I have to extend my Koigu obsession to this yarn too???

Oh, my kersti should be here tomorrow....I can't WAIT! The feather and fan is Lovely, and unique without the purly rows.
I hope you have the same experience as I had last week, my son was being bragged on by somebody who didn't know I was his mother....heh! They said he was incredibly well prepared to be independent....and Doing So Well it was miraculous.
Now if THAT aint the MotherLode, I don't know what is ;)

That scarf is so pretty. I've been trying to fight my Koigu Demons and not buy any more yarn. No yarn.

Kersti and the F&F look awesome together. Those are some great colours!!!

What a marriage made in heaven - F&F and Kersti! Now I never thought to put those two together. That's why this is so much fun! Have you seen my naming challenge over at the Kersti blog. I would call yours "Springtime". Or "Wildflowers". That is so cool that they get to do an overnight in the dorm! Makes perfect sense. Hope it went well.

Sandy...my dear, dear friend (do I get extra points) that is the most lovely feather and fan yet. It is awesome. A son with a mother like you can only do well in college and in life. I'm trying to hit the Motherlode.
Gush...gush!
Great knitting!

Well! the Kersti just throws my "wool and Cord" thought out the window : )
I agree, are we really gonna want to know what is happening when they go off to college..
Your not alone I am sad also : (

Ooooh. I love the fan and feather scarf for Kersti. Can I gush some more about how much I love those colors? Beautiful. Does it just feel wonderful?
What an exciting time for your son. It just seems like yesterday that I was off to college. He's going to love it!

You haven't learned this trick yet? NO QUESTIONS. Act like you COULDN'T CARE LESS. Details might start leaking out then, hehe. Love the Feather and Fan. Maybe THIS will be my lacy scarf project in the Lace-Along. Hmmmm. Give something time, and something new always enters the program!

Kersti looks beautiful in feather and fan!
Children the world over grunt at their mothers - the only time they talk is to say "I *told* you last week, weren't you listening??"

I love the feather and fan - what size needles? How many stitches did you cast on? I've been playing with the design and I agree: it's much prettier without the garter interruptions...
