« NYC, the aftermath | Main | Hello, my name is Sandy and I'm a Lorna's Laces addict! »
06.28.2004 :: Yes, but what did I get?
It might be a miracle, but I came home from numerous NYC yarn stores with only 2 purchases, both from Habu! (see yesterday's entry for Habu info)
On the left is a felted necklace kit. This is equal to the question, "why do people climb the mountain?" Answer: Because it's there. I have no need for a felted necklace, nor do I even know what the finished product claims to look like, but it intrigued me and in the spirit of the moment, I found it in my bag. After I paid for it, silly!
On the right is Tsumugi silk. I love the color. Then I looked closer at the yardage...First, let's look at the skein again. This time in perspective.
Kinda small for 780 yards, no? I hate to even look at the thickness, or should I say THINness of the yarn! I will fondle it and dream about it for now. Someday it will call out a project to me!
REMEMBER! The Lorna's Laces Motherlode contest ends on June 30th, entries must be in by 5:00 pm, US EST! See June 16th entry for details!

ps--I didn't finish my ebay story (oops!)
turns out she was measuring each ply towards the 1000 yards...sneaky, huh?
Also, I have a huge skein of super fine laceweight yarn and it's 4 times bigger and only 600 yards...

I was wondering maybe each ply is 390 yards long if it's 2 ply? There was an ebay seller who used to say "1000 yards of alpaca!!" but it turned out to be 1/3 of that because it was 3 ply.
I'm wondering because the skein I got doesn't seem to compute either.
the yarns you got are so pretty!!

I was there in May and met up with some NYC area bloggers. Your trip is making me nostalgic. NYC is a great place for many things, but knitting is on top. And I agree...Habu is a fascinating place.

I see a doily in your future...
And can't wait to see the felted necklace. Sounds like a great time was had by all and that is the important thing!

Now Norma! She cracks me up. Anyhoo, you PAID for that felted necklace kit? Why would you do such a thing? ;)

Hmmm. Maybe there is a contest in the making. What should Sandy do with her Tsumugi Silk? It's really pretty...

Ooohhh!! The Tsumugi silk looks like it might make a wonderful Charlotte--is it soft and wonderful?
Only two purchases? I'm proud of you, woman! You must be savin' it up for Rhinebeck....? :D

Holy moly, feed me a cannoli! 780 yards? That gives a whole new meaning to "fuzzy math."

Aww. I am out for a week and a bit due to lots of knitting and I come back up to see some of my favorite knitters have come and gone to my next-door-big-city!
The Habu pictures are evil (in that temptation way); the yarn looks gorgeous and I can't wait to see what you do to it. I haven't visited there yet but I don't need any more reasons to increase my stash.
Atleast, not until my birthday. (Don't ask when that is. Hee hee. I am in love with Bamboo yarn and I'm looking for the perfect project to buy a bunch.)
