07.21.2004 :: my house, is a very, very, very fine house
![]()
The Charlotte women need a bit more attention, don't you think? I have been a negligent host. I have updated my blogrolling list to indicate the finished Charlotte's with a * If I have missed you, speak up, so we can all hear! I'm sure I have missed a few.
Last night I was quickly reading through the new Oprah magazine (August 2004 issue) when I came across a small article by a man named Carl Honore who is a self proclaimed activist for inactivity. He believes that in our desire to fill every moment, we are losing out on some of life's most precious commodities. Connection with other people. Balance is what he states it's all about, not moving to a little house on the prairie! Choosing the right speed for what we are doing.
I agree with everything he said. Although, I started to think about how the computer age has led to less connection with people. Since I have started blogging, I feel the opposite. Blogging has connected me with more people. Many women and a few men that I never would have met in my small corner of the world. Most people noodling around on the computer are avoiding the human connection. I seek it everytime I log on.
You are my Prairie. This blog is my little house.
And I knit gloves. Life is good, is it not?

Hi Sandy, I'm on vacation this week (yippee) so a little late with my blog-reading. I finished my first Charlotte and blocked her a few days ago, so you can check me off :) Thanks so much for "being here" for so many of us! Hey, I want a blog now too - maybe someday...

"You are my Prairie???" Whatchya smoking, San? Tumbleweed? ;) Well, if I'm your prairie, you're my ocean. So there!

Mine's been finished for a while, too. :-)

I'm done, too...you missed me.
It's so true how many more people we all have met through knitting both virtually and in reality. The world is full of wonderful knitters and the connection (yarn!) is strong.

Sandy,
I am a begining knitter and your blog has taught me so much about knitting and stuff in general! I'm so glad you take the time every day to talk to me via your blog!!!!
I think I would like to have my own blog but I'm such a novice that I'm sure no one would want to hear my ramblings,so I will continue to learn through you. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Smitten needs an asterisk! I liked Charlotte so much I did another (this time a poncho); it's tucked away over at my new blog.

So well put, Sandy! I completely agree with you -- the knitblogworld brings so many of us together in such a wonderful, creative way. And knitting in general does this, too, I think. Case in point: many of the wonderful, talented people I've met through knitting are people I probably would never even meet (much less form friendships with) had it not been for knitting.

Ah, boy, I bet you are going to generate an astonishing # of comments on this one, because it is SO TRUE. Even in my little johnny-come-lately blog, interesting new people cross my path daily, and people who share the same interests, values, and sense of humor, people that we can't necessarily find on our streets or in our own towns. This is our own little, welcoming community.

Hi Sandy,
I've finished my Charlotte too. Wow, your fingers and toes are really very lucky to have you. The glove and socks look beautiful!
