07.22.2004 :: Sandy's beach

Hands and feet. This has turned into a blog about hands and feet. Don't let your fingers and toes get chilly. Knit them something. I'm not going to bore you with the finger du jour. Let me say, though, that the hole problem mentioned a couple of days ago is fixed. Instead of the M2 (which the pattern describes, by the way, as wrapping the yarn around the needle 2 full times. It doesn't however mention the gaping holes that are left in it's wake) I picked up more than 2. I picked up quite a few more on the ring finger. It needed it. So I dealt with it and moved on. My whole philosophy on life as a matter of fact! Works for me!
The summer weather has slammed into these parts with a fury. Previously cool and comfy, Massachusetts and New England has been having the hot and humids. Except for where I live. We have the most delightful sea breeze lately, keeping our temps in the delightful low 70's! Get yourself a sea breeze, you won't be sorry!

Singing Beach, Manchester
Bethany and I went to Singing beach last night, about a 15 minute ride from our home. With the fog rolling in off the water, it was a delightful evening. I love to go to the beach at that time of day. There are only a handful of people left on the beach and the seagulls are out cleaning the beach of any leftover snacks.

Taking a dip!
Singing beach is named for the sound that the sand makes when you scuff your heels along. It "sings". A high pitched squeaking noise unlike any other beach I've ever been to. The phenomena is explained here, if you are interested. It has something to do with the silica content in the sand.
Now if someone could just turn the heater on in the water. Refreshing my foot. The water is downright frigid! Only the brave went in the water yesterday.
What are you looking at me for? I'm not brave!!

I never knew that little fact! I love Singing Beach and always wondered why I wanted to sing while I walked the beach. You just never know what you're gonna learn at Sandy's. :)

Hi Sandy -- I looked for your email address but just couldn't find it on your blog. I'm in Merrimack, NH -- where are you? Also, please add me to the Charlotte women as I have just officially started my first Charlotte today. Thanks!

Singing beaches - I'm in Lowell and will have to get over there at some point this summer (maybe fall). I'm nuts though - I'd DEFINITELY go wading :)

I'm on Long Lake in Maine (where is either hot as hell or colder than you could ever imagine) and while we don't have that great sea breeze we've at least got the lake to resort to, lake temps right now are 75 so a quick dip is generally in order! I have started knitting socks to get ready for those freezing temps!! You're beach pics however make me miss the coast of Maine!!

Oh, I love, love, LOVE Singing Beach! We drive there from Somerville, park a thousand miles away (sigh) and carry our beach chairs along that long road from the commuter rail stop. And we always get ice cream on the way back to the car. :-) I can't remember the name of the ice cream place, but I'm sure you know it. Mmmm.

Oh, it just seems so beautiful! We have our wonderful mountains to cool off but the beach would be so nice. Just walking along the sandy shore would be enough if the water is so cold. We have mountain thunder for music and you have singing sand!

I'm a land lubber. Oh,you fortunate
fortunate woman!!!!! What I wouldn't give for 70 degree weather! Here in southeast Missouri it's 95 with 100% humidity. Can you say sticky?

I'd love a seabreeze! Unfortately, the best I get is a river breeze, which isn't nearly the same. *sigh*

My son was just at the Maryland shore and he states the water was FREEZING. So it may be Oct. till you get warm water up in your neck of the woods.
I always seem to pick up more stitches then patterns call for.

I currently live on PEI, and here too, there is a Singing Sands beach. I belive it's the same phenomenon here. Just thought you might like to know.
