12.30.2004 :: The word of the day? AND! Could I have said it more?

My knitting has been blah lately. Sometimes you need something to sink your teeth into. Or perhaps, your needles into. So, let's do a math equation, shall we?

Let the mitten obsession continue! It may have taken a hiatus, but it was there all along! I am so in love with this mitten. I have learned so many new things already. A new cast on, double start method, , the yarnover braids and the nupp stitch. I am dizzy from all the new knowledge! Does that mean that I am a better person for it? Well, if indeed a better person can do weirdo stitches for some estonian mittens, then SURE, why not!
And then
You know when you've been blissfully knitting a long time and you feel a bit of a twinge in your wrist. And you say to yourself, "self, maybe it's time to step away from the knitting!" Knowing that is the logical thing to do. But "after this row" comes to mind. Then it's "let me just finish this ________ (fill in your own blank)" And you do, finish it. And then start something else. And finish THAT row. And the next. And all of a sudden it's more than a warning twinge in your wrist? It's a pain. And you are stupid?
Yeah,well, it's like that!
Stupid.
Thank goodness for advil!
And what's up with this?

The page fell out of my brand new book? Scheez. But you know, it is more convienient that way. No more pesky opening and closing of the book. But I fear this book will be a loose leaf binder soon.
Beware the twinge. Don't be stupid like someone you know!

I love the mitten. That is the cast-on I use all the time! What have you used in the past? I love learning new techniques.

Isn't the twinge worth the wonders of unlimited knitting time though? Wouldn't you rather that your wrist stopped you than dinner, or picking up Derek, or stringing Christmas lights, or baking, or...

Purdy....What could be more lovely that mocha Koigu and folk mittens?

Holy crap. I'm so freaked out. I knit those mittens....and that page fell out.

I know a lot of people who, when they get a paperback musical score, immediately take it to Kinko's and have the paper binding replaced with a comb or spiral one. This way, the book lies perfectly flat and they don't have to worry about losing pages as the binding goes. I've considered having this done to a lot of my knitting books. Might that be easier to use than a three ring binder?

Take the book to a copy place and have them cut the binding off and put a spiral binding on it. I do that with all the knitting books I use regularly. It should cost less then 5 bucks to do.
Happy New Year, Sandy.

My mouth is hanging open in awe of the new mitten! So many amazing parts to it, so beautifully done! I can't wait to see the finished mitten.

Ooooo... chocolate mittens.
It's beautiful.
I'd, um.. do something about the book. Write Interweave a note?

Beautiful start to the mitten. I love making braids :)

Now about you book. What you need to do is take it to Kinko's or a place like this and have them spiral bind it. I've done this to some books in the past and it makes them great too because they will lay flat when open.

Um, Sandy? You're a PT. There is no excuse. Back away from the knitting.

Love the mitten, Sandy! Do be careful with that wrist.

Oooh, I love your mitten. I tried to start a mitten from Folk Mittens, and my head exploded! Too much for my eggnogg-addled brain. :)

No twinges here. Probably because I haven't been doing enough knitting OR working. I'm so in awe of all your new skills and how lovely your mitten looks!!! I haev about an inch of what might be a cuff of a Fair Isle glovelette. Is that cool enough? Can I be your friend still?

Posted by: Norma on 12.30.2004 AT 09:13 AM

I have that book coming. I couldn't handle it. I've got a pretty mitten obsession too. Looks like you have a great start to yours :)

Oh yeah! I've felt that twinge one too many times over the last couple of weeks. I was spinning last night and felt it until my eyes couldn't stay open any longer. You know you have it bad when you can't pull yourself away :) Love the mittens. I may have to try a pair if I can get past my fear of stranded knitting...
