01.22.2005 :: Cloudy with a chance of meatballs!

Cloudy with a chance of meatballs:
(Does anyone know that book? It was one of my kids favorites when they were little!)
The forecast for tonight is snow. And lots of it! My plan will be similar to hibernating. Cooking chicken stew with dumplings (which is similar to chicken and dumplings but is a soup), cleaning up around here, more laundry and yes, lots of knitting, maybe even a movie or two! But first I have to go to the grocery store and I'm not happy about it! I genuinely need groceries. I'm not going there to stock up on food because of the storm. I need bread and milk. Not EXTRA bread and milk. We have none. Shouldn't there be a stash of food for people who are not panicking? One little mention of snow on the weather and it sends people into a tizzy! What if this is THE ONE? Maybe we won't be able to get to the store for a month and a half!
Oh, please! Move over! I NEED groceries! Mother Hubbard has got nothing on my cupboards!
Icicle on Sandy

My house is growing some huge icicles right now! But this is my favorite. The water drips froze on the way down the SANDY windchimes.
I just love icicles! Even though it really means that the drainage system outside our home is failing miserably! There is a price to pay for beauty, is there not?

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was my son's favorite book. I must've read it a thousand times!! Funny to see you write about it after your post last week about American Chop Suey...I'm going to change your listing in 'My Favorites' to 'Sandy's Trips Down Memory Lane'!

You would not believe the crowding at the gas stations in NYS today! It was hilarious. Honestly, if we're snow-bound, who needs gas to drive?

The Whole Foods in Bedford was just fine today....OK, granted it was 8:30 AM. Bring on the snow!

And Annie, three words for why people go crazy at grocery stores in Mass. -- Blizzard of '78.

Your plan is the same as mine! Including the shopping I just did with all of those people who seem to forget that we will back in business Monday morning. But seeing as my kids were begging me for milk and frozen waffles this morning and the hubby looked at me with that "Are you ever going shopping again?" look in his eye....... Here is how it went. No parking available. No shopping carts (had to wait) and register lines more than half way down the food aisles. And now I realize, I forgot the winter lager, which I only wanted because I like the pretty blue labels. It is going in my vegetarian chili. Oh well, I'll have to use the Corona. Cocoon yourself well!

I loved that book when I was little! I'm getting a copy for my son soon, so that he can enjoy it, too.

I, unfortunately, was working in a grocery store today. People were *swarming* at the Deli counter (my department) and buying pounds & pounds of cold cuts. They pretty much cleaned the store out of milk, too. I brought milk & bread home for the same reason you did: we don't have any! I actually had to wait fifteen minutes on line to get gas, too. If my tank hadn't been on E, there would have been no way I'd wait for it (I was worried that my car would stall out while I waited).

People go way too crazy over snow. If I hadn't had to work, I would have been snuggled up with my son & my knitting, not out getting rations!

I'm surprised that there is the same panic at the grocery stores up there as we have here. I would have thought you guys take these winter storms in stride.

I'm off to go make some soup now...sounds wonderful!
Stay warm.

hibernating, cloudy with a chance of meatballs, and let it snow.... the grocery store was mobbed and i feel the same way, they should have a special check out line for those of us who really needed to be there. i guess i could leave the ice cream in the car!!!! enjoy the storm...

I LOVE that book! My kids really like it, too. Happy Hibernating - we're doing the same here.

Chicken soup is simmering away! I sent my husband to the mad frenzy at the grocery this morning. Love the icicles!

I love hibernating and cooking soups and stews, too! We're just old homebodies, that's what we are. Chicken and dumplings sounds like a great idea. I can do that even though I'm still hurting. (seem to be having a relapse. I think it's because the new vacuum arrived and my body is telling me NO,NO,NO,
NOOOOOOOO. No vacuuming!)

I was actually out of food, too - braved the lines and went to the grocery store today. Pandemonia! But now we're set - let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Sandy,You are so lucky!!!! I love snow and hibernating! Hibernating is my favorite winter sport! We got snow in southeast Missouri the week of Christmas and when I went to buy my obligatory "stocking up supplies for the Big One" all the stores were already out of bread. OH MY GOSH! How would we survive? Would we survive?
Oh wait.
Whew!
I had about a half dozen loves of whole wheat bread in my deep freaze.
Thank God!!!!!!!!

Happy Hibernating!
