02.27.2005 :: Dead Projects Walking*

* Norma's idea. Gotta give credit where credit is due.
There's more, don't worry. It's a tad embarrassing, but it must be done.

This is a Phildar something or other. I believe I coined it the Beach Towel sweater. Or something. I hate it. And I don't hate it. I love the style, the stripes, the brightness of the color. I hate the scritchy-ness of the yarn, the colors, when put next to my skin makes me look, um, well, NOT GOOD. Orange and Pink are my friends. But somehow, not THIS orange and pink.
This project is gone. Bye Bye Beach towel bingo! Needle rescued? Addi Turbo US 7.
What number are we on now?

These are the September Transitions socks from Blackberry Ridge. I love these. I wonder why I stopped knitting them? The yarn is a wonderful blend of silk and wool, they are a true delight. What was I thinking? Casting these aside seems a sin.
These stay.
Needle size: US3
I thought about continuing these and gifting them to my Sockapalooza pal as she expressed a fondness of the color green. The veto happened in the recesses of my mind.

Oh boy! This is the Elle bag. Or was supposed to be anyway. Classic Elite's Inca Alpaca. ~sigh~ I love this yarn. I love this bag. But something happened along the way. Some kind of learning disability or something. It has reared it's ugly head in the Charlotte's we and the flower basket shawl too. If the pattern says, "Continue in pattern, increasing along the way", my mind shuts down. I don't know what it is about that simple phrase. Maybe I need to chart it out ahead of time. This has been on of my biggest frustrations in knitting that I have run up against. I do not want to get rid of this project. I want to conquer it. Arise Victorious in the end.
It stays. For now.

Hey Brooks, are you still out there?

This has to be one of my favorite items of all time. Yes, I know, it doesn't make ANY sense that it sits untouched. Time. There's not enough.
This is the reversible scarf in the wonderful, scrumpdillyicious Brooks Farm yarn. (Hey, that's the second time I have used the word BROOKS today! :)
Love is not a strong enough word for this scarf. It stays. Again, a happy neck will ensue.
Needle size: addi turbo US5.
No wonder I can't find any needles when starting something!

Oh My Stars. What was I thinking when I did not finish these right away?
These are the Glorious Gloves made in Richesse Et Soie
Glorious is an understatement. I intended to have these done for my Rhinebeck trip last October. I have no recollection of why I did not finish them. The only excuse I can offer is that I am crazy. Certifiably looney. Not of my right mind.
This one STAYS.
Needle size: US 2. This project also has a bunch of beautiful stitch markers that are works of art. Kim has a knack with these!
It's almost getting embarrassing, isn't it? Kind of fun though.
Join me? Jane is.

Found this by accident and am smiling lots while living your knitting angst with you, Sandy! I know all about having unfinished projects everywhere...one such example is my first non-scarf item: a cardigan (run out of wool) and am trying to find 4 balls of Katia 'Reno Plus' in colour 613, the same colour you used for your scarf in 2003... do any of you ladies have any idea where to get some? I could buy some from you, Sandy, if you had any unwanted in your stash...
Hopefully, Allison

You MUST finish the precious gloves (it would be a sin not to enjoy them). I'll bet you ate lured away from projects when a new pattern & yarn purchase occurs (always does for me)!

Leslie

P.S. Tks Alison for mentioning this wonderful site!

I can't believe you frogged the pink/orange sweater--I want to cry for you! As for why you stopped your wonderful projects, I'll bet anything a new yarn and pattern lured you away (happens everytime w/me)! Pls pick up those wonderful gloves that you started and finished the other one!

Leslie

P.S. So glad Alison mentioned your site!

I am in LOVE with so many of your projects and yarns. I want to steal your stash, but will settle for staring and drooling.

I'm drooling over how fabulous those gloves are. Sooooo glad you're keeping them. Wow, this is so much fun! :)

the gloves are BEAUTIFUL why don't you finish those up quick and send them to chicgao

i loved this post. and the following one (chronologically so scrolling up - isn't that important to note) -- i am far too lazy to comment on each

I did a similiar sort of list on Groundhog's day. I got all of the WIP's out of 'hibernation' and decided what to keep going on and what to rip out. It was very liberating felt really good to give myself permission to stop knitting something that obviously working!

Send me those socks, I'll finish them (and I get to keep them then, right?)
I love the gloves too. I could knit those for you too. I'll be over so I can touch the lorna's laces later!

Oooohh, you've got some fun projects going on!! I've still got the yarn for Brooke's Elle bag--it's SO adorable!

Let's all just quit our jobs and stay home & knit. Whattya think? ;)

BIG HUGS, girlie! Love you! xxooxxoo

Another thing in common.... Pink and orange are my friends too! I found a funny problem with my Denise needles....
when I put a project aside on my interchangeable needles, oh boy! I just take the needle ends off, and pop on the button ends. Sooooooo.....when I go to pick up a neglected project, I have to hope like mad that I can remember what size needles I was using, especially if it's different than the pattern! Those socks are gorgeous! But will we be knitting or shoveling??? Here comes the snow, here comes the snow.......

Posted by: Jenny on 02.27.2005 AT 10:04 PM

Ooooooooooh, look at those socks!! Those have to be the prettiest socks I've seen. The gloves are sweet too. Love it!

Posted by: Liz on 02.27.2005 AT 08:54 PM

You made some great choices for walking the plank and for keeping on the sticks. Can't wait to see those lovely gloves on your sweet lil hands!

Posted by: margene on 02.27.2005 AT 08:53 PM

Wow, do I love those gloves. I'm such a sucker for soft squishy yarn with (alas) no body.
