02.28.2005 :: But wait! There's more!
You should say that entry title in dramatic infomercial style!
Number 9:
The Blackberry Ridge Cranberry mitten. ~sigh~ there's so much wrong with this. I WANT to love this mitten. But it has it's problems. THe biggest problem is that it's too small. Too narrow to be exact. I could try to block it out. Like the koigu latvians.
But is it worth the risk?
What to do...what to do..
Okay, I'm going to take this out and do over on bigger needles.
That decision was not an easy one. But truly, I wouldn't wear it as it is now.
Needle rescued: US3
I also need to write to blackberry ridge and buy the pattern. Again. I lost the thumb part and it needs a thumb, let's be honest.
Number 10:
Inishmore! This is a KEEPER! Alas, it has it's problems too. Why do you think that it has been cast aside? Maybe ONE of you will remember that there was a funky cable twist and I vowed to fix it. Fix it, I tried. I was not successful. See?
Look to the right of the wonderful stitch marker. You can see 3 lines that round a corner and supposed to head neatly up towards the right. They are just a mess. It is a jumble of stitches. And THIS IS THE FIX! That's the embarrassing part of this. I figure I have 2 choices here. Ignore it. Or rip it back.
I am not going to make that decision right now. Soon.
Procrastination. It's a girl's best friend.
Number 11:
Socks for my father. They were supposed to be a Christmas gift, 2003. Then they were going to be a Valentine's gift. Then a father's day gift. Then a birthday gift. Then Christmas 2004.
Yeah, well, how's that working for me?
So, let's just say, possibly Christmas 2005? Seems possible to me.
These stay.
Is that all? Could that be it? I think so. I will dig a bit further.
Tally:
Projects saved: 7
Projects Sacrificed: 4
Needles gained: Priceless
That's it! The great clean out has now ended.
Phew! I'm pooped! I'd better learn to knit in my sleep to get all these rescued projects done!
Go ahead, Read something!
Are you still reading?
I hope so.
I have been obsessed with a book I bought at BJ's on Saturday. I can't keep my eyes off of it. It is called The Memory of Running by Ron McLarty. I know this will be one of those books that I will be sad to see end.

Inishmore is beautiful! Hey, I just realized that I'm doing St. Brigid in the same cascade 220 color (rainer heather).
For the mistake, have you tried dropping down those (11?) stitches that are messed up and reknit them with dpns (one size smaller than what you are currently using). It's worth a try before ripping all the rows out.

Were the problems you had with the blackberry mitten because of gauge or the pattern? I got this kit from my family for my birthday and have been putting off making it. Any suggestions?
I really enjoy reading your blog. Thanks for the book recommendation. It sounds very good.

You did a really good job with the cleaning. I haven't been knitting long enough to have those types of problems yet, although since I jsut put away several projects I'm sure I'll have to do the same thing soon enough. Yaay for more needles! :)

You projects are incredible. It's my first time surfing to your website, and you are a very talented knitter. It takes some guts to photograph your UFOs and announce them to the world! That's almost like pulling your pants down and showing everyone your underwear :). Congratulations for being so brave, photographing the monsters, and deciding what stays and what goes. Now we just need an update in a few months to see which newly unearthed UFOs have become FOs :).

I do think you're brave and fearless to show us all your 'whoops' projects. I have those too. They're not on my blog. I can't quite deal with them myself, showing them to everyone else is beyond my personal growth level at the present.
What yarn are you using for Inishmore?

my wife has small hands - if they dont' fit once you've completed them, feel free to send them our way!

I have a Blackberry Mitten kit that didn't work as a mitten - you reminded me of it - I think I will frog and use the yarn for socks. Fix the cable! Just take your time and you will do it. Congrats on your journey - I must do the same!

Sandy, I really enjoyed your walk down WIP lane. If confession is good for the soul, you must be feeling great! :) I think I'd like to do something similar, maybe this summer.

Hi Sandy,
I have the Blackberry mittens pattern - I could email you the thumb directions if you'd like...seems a shame to have to buy the pattern again just for the thumb!
My mittens often seem to come out narrow too...probably because I pull so tightly when I use 2 yarns at the same time. Even though I swatch! It's the Fear, I know it.

Oooh, thanks for the book recommendation. I've heard just a bit about the book, but now I really will read it.
And, my advise for the funky cable? Ignore. It won't be noticeable at all when the sweater is complete, and that can be the back. Looks good to me. :)

Your list of WIPs made me feel so much better. It is nice to know I am not the only one with so many questionable works taking up perfectly good needles. Happy sorting!
