Did you ever hear a statement that is thrown out to the world and you listen to it, innocently enough thinking that's the end of that thought? And then all of a sudden, you can't get that thought out of your mind. You pick it apart, you dissect it, you wonder what's the meaning of it all?
Yeah, it's like that.
Statement heard innocently enough on the Food Network's Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello:
And I quote:
"A family reunion isn't a family reunion without Pork!"
Hmm. Is this true? Have I had all those family parties throughout the years and broken the cardinal rule?
This Saturday, you guessed it, we are having a family dinner for Andy's birthday. Can I really NOT serve pork now? If I don't, will they all leave our home and think, "You know, it was good and all, but......no pork!"
Pork, smork.

Thanks for the comments folks...I must have misstated what I meant....what I meant to say is "My Family" would not consider it a family reunion with out Pork....sorry for all the confusion

I can't shake the image of that poor little piggy, getting plucked, from behind.

Thanks so much for your nice comment today. My ex is suing me for custody for the third time in 8 years. I thought we were done with this and now here it is again. Ideally, within a month we'll know the outcome and it will be in my favor. Again. And someone will stop him! Anyway, thanks for your thoughts.

Regarding the pork, it's that way at our house. I think pork is ok, but my daughter, sons and hubby think pork is nearly as good as the Second Coming!

Too funny! :)

Lol! The first person I thought of when I read that was my grandmother. She loves pork in all its forms, and just freaked out when I told her I no longer ate pig in any of its nitrate-laden forms. (Personal choice, not passing judgement on the chop lovers.) Something tells me she and Michael Chiarello would get along famously in the kitchen. :)

Just ask yourself "What would Homer (Simpson) do?"

Sandy

Fear not. Bacon is pork. Im sure you've had bacon on burgers or in a salad or in your baked beans before.

I have to say I love pulled pork. But I buy it for parties, from an incredible place called Russell's in the River Grove area near Chicago.

p.s. My husband finshed My memory of Running last night. he loved it. Thanks

I watched that show! Personally, I was taken with the homemade gnocchi.

I think we've probably had pork at all our "reunions" but I wouldn't consider a birthday party a "reunion" necessarily. They're probably thinking more like a cookout sorta thing. That is a pretty funny statement though still.

Despite having made pork chops for Ken's birthday not too long ago, I can tell you that my family has been vegetarian for years and still somehow managed to have porkless reunions. We're even sort of close. Could be that Canadians are exempt though.

A ham is one of the easiest things to serve, and everyone loves it!
