« Who are the flowers in my neighborhood? | Main | Baby, Baby, Baby cashmerino! »

04.21.2005 :: Maybe I can get a clue!

Well, ho hum. That's my mood du jour this week. Why? I don't know. Who can understand these things?
I mean, the sun is shining, the birds are singing, the trees are budding, flowers are flowering. What's NOT to be happy about. Ho hum.
I feel a bit teenagery when I say, "whatever!"
I am knitting like a fiend on the baby cashmerino sweater. I have decided that I wish I were that baby. I would love a sweater like that! Pattern and yarn are just right for me!
I am reading Anne Tyler's Ladder of Years. As usual, I love her books but the subject (a woman/wife/mother runs away from her family, never giving a thought as to the suffering her kids may be going through. THAT is just MY take on the kids, though, not hers)
I am eating healthy and feeling good about it. It is only a tad more work overall. But worth the investment. For those interested, I have lost 9.2 pounds! Don't worry, I won't try to bore you with every ounce lost, but I got so much support I thought everyone would like to know that I'm off to a great start! Veggies are my friend! In fact, I have stumbled upon a great concoction of cabbage and carrots. Shall I share? You could use more vegetables too, you know!
Sandy's C&C (cabbage and carrots)
1 small onion, chopped
1 clove garlic
a shake of red pepper flakes
saute in pan with small amount of olive oil and a spash of low sodium, fat free chicken broth. When they get soft add
1/2 head of cabbage, cut into shreds
3 peeled and shredded carrots
salt
pepper
Saute until done. If needed put another splash of chicken broth into pan to keep it from browning.
It's truly yummy. Andy calls it cooked cole slaw. Bethany will not touch it with a ten foot pole.
Yup. Losing weight, eating healthy, enjoying the weather, the flowers the trees, the birds. Knitting. Reading. Ho hum.
I can't seem to help myself.

Wow, 9.2 pounds, that is great! And it didn't take long at all. Congrats!

Fantastic! And thanks for the recipe!

Congrats on the weight loss! Why don't you just size up the pattern of the baby sweater for you? I've read a couple of neat books that show how to do that. Sweater 101 was probably the most helpful.
That book sounds morbid. I would be depressed too with that story line. I'd drop the thing!
On a happier note, the adorable baby socks you sent to me will be getting some more use. We've just found out that we're expecting again. Maybe I can find a coming home outfit that will coordinate with the socks! And I think I'll have to get busy on the baby cashmerino sweater. It sounds like it might take a while!

I'm so envious! I guess if I actually TRIED to lose weight, it would work better, huh.

That dish sounds really good and actually we like all the recipes, tips and keeping track of your journey. We can all use more healthy foods and good ideas for eating well.
Ann Tyler's book confused me somewhat, too. I think the ending will help you understand why she does it...it did for me.

Sandy - 9.2 pounds! You rock, lady! Totally! I hope you don't mind, but every time I manage to get my lazy bum off my couch to go for a walk/run I tell myself, "I'm doing this so I can do the Run for the Cure and I'm doing this because Sandy is eating her veggies!"

Sandy! 9.2 POUNDS!

I'm feeling very, very proud of you for sticking to your plan. (Even though I like you just the way you are.)

Holy moley! Nine pounds *already*? That's fantastic! Soon you will have to take in those Everyday Cardigans. ;-)

I lost a fair bit of weight myself over the past year, so if you ever want to talk, just let me know. I didn't do WW, just exercise, portion control, and cutting out as many refined carbs as possible... common sense stuff.

Congratulations -- 9.2 pounds is fantastic! The recipe sounds great.

Mmm, that recipe does sound yummy! Claudia could be right about the detox thing....but I always get a spring bluesy feeling, too. Don't know why.

You know what? I remember being "down" when I read that book too. I tend to pick up moods from the books I read. Maybe that's what you're doing?

Posted by: Annie on 04.22.2005 AT 08:15 AM

I love that book. Can't you just identify with her at times?

Hooray for you!!

As for the ho-hums.....I'm not sure.... is that anything like gangsta-rap?? :)

Sometimes it's just a mood, I know you will snap out of it. What about looking through your sock stash and dreaming of some new socks?

Posted by: Chris on 04.21.2005 AT 09:57 PM

Maybe you are just going through detox.

More veggies, I could use any veggies. I am so not a healthy eater. Glad it's working for you :)
