05.31.2005 :: Mittens in a day. Or two!

DSC04614.JPG
Beatnicks Handspun mittens
Love them! Just because they are sitting next to a soon to bloom peony bush doesn't mean they won't be needed any day now. The weather here in Massachusetts has been erratic to say the least. I could use them today, for instance.
The best thing? I have enough of this yummy yarn to make another pair with THRUMS. The best of both worlds! I can enjoy the beauty of virgin handspun and have the warmth with the thrums that a certain PERSON is donating to the cause! (Thanks, Norma!)
Is it wrong to want it all? Wonderful mittens and even more wonderful mittens? Hey! A girl's hands get cold!

Lilac bush aptly named "sensation". It lives near my stairs, blooming profusely this year for the first time, making me one happy camper. Er. knitter.

Can't you just smell them?
Poem time:
Taken from When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd
...
In the dooryard fronting an old farm-house near the white-wash'd palings,
Stands the lilac-bush tall-growing with heart-shaped leaves of rich green,
With many a pointed blossom rising delicate, with the perfume strong I love,
With every leaf a miracle -- and from this bush in the dooryard,
With delicate-color'd blossoms and heart-shaped leaves of rich green,
A sprig with its flower I break.

Nice job on the mittens!

Your lilac pics are making me homesick. They just don't grow as lush down here in NC. They're beautiful though!

Heck, I need some mittens for my office area. It is so cold!

Those are some beautiful flowers...I always envy people who have green thumbs!

Not wrong to want it all. Especially if you have the yarn to do it. Lovely lilacs :)

Yep I can smell them all the way over here! Gorgeous colour, gorgeous smell and virtually ndestructible! Love the mittens.

Odd season: I can smell the lilacs through the screen, AND yearn for the warmth of the mittens at the same time. The poem is perfect for the picture.

Oh I love Lilacs. Ours are just starting to die off....

Here is a really silly question, what is a THRUM?

Love the mittens. I'll have to give some a go for next winter.

Oh, I love Whitman! Yep, the thrummy roving is on its way (well, it will be tomorrow!) I gulped when I saw the completed mittens, saying, "Hey! She didn't wait for the roving!" but it seems you'll be making two pairs. All the better. Gotta run to the aeroport now. TTYS!

Great mittens! I was wearing mine at work on Friday. The good thing about this weather is that the lilacs are lasting forever.

Lilacs! Again! Ours are long gone but we have 'sensation' at the end of our building. The mittens are marvelous and so colorful. They look warm. May the sun shine soon on you!!
