07.19.2005 :: Bahama mama

I have been a weather watcher for years now. It is my thing. Well, ONE of my things. Being the type of person who also loathes humidity, I have kept my eye on the dewpoint readings of summer. A dewpoint reading of 70 is tropical. Without the tropical surroundings, "tropical" loses all it's fun. No pineapple drinks, no lei around my neck, no palm trees. Just my house trying not to be so sticky and failing miserably. To me, personally, any dewpoint reading over 68 is ICKY. Yes, I know I am using such technical terms, but bear with me. ICKY.
Yesterday the dewpoint reading was 75. Now, as long as I have been a weather freak and have been keeping my beady little eyes on the levels, I have never seen the dewpoint level at this high of a number here in the non tropics. I don't see an equator around here.
Dewpoint levels of 75 is inhumane. Everything sticks to me. Especially yarn. Oh Woe is ME. Yarn sticks to my hands while trying to knit.
Cold drinks go instantly warm and sweaty. And sweat? As a lady wannabe, let's not get into that sticky subject.
But. Knit I did. A bit.

Row 26, Creatures of the Reef shawl
I am loving knitting with the zephyr yarn. That is, when it's not sticking to my hands.
The price we knitters have to pay..

Sandy, that shawl is going to be really pretty. What a great color and pattern combination. :)

baby powder. a light dusting on the hands. it helps, honest. the reef looks good so far. i don't wanna discuss dewpoints, just straight temps are depressing me. it's supposed to be in the 100's through the weekend, starting tomorrow. and i'm in nebraska, which is known for dewpoints. ugh

You think it was humid at YOUR house? At my house, I cut the air into cubes, put it in the freezer, and I'm cooling my lemonade with it as we speak.

I was feeling real good about my dewpoint until I realized that I had to convert it.

I don't have much reference as to the dewpoint. Doesn't sound like fun. And yet we knitters perservere :)

COTR looks great by the way!

Ain't that the truth! It isn't as fun unless someone is walking around in the sand bringing you a drink. In a coconut. Weather watching is a hobby for most New Englanders, is it not. Biggest topic of conversation usually. I just checked. At 1:00, p.m. it is 90 degrees (but feels like 101!), dewpoint is 76 and the relative humidity is 63%. Ain't we got fun!? Come on over and swim, or knit in the a/c. You are welcome anytime.

Wow...I'm liking our 'blast furnace' more and more;-) Dew point? 37%

Our dewpoint is currently 74. Ew.

I'm feeling the dewpoint in my office today! We have no a/c and are in a semi-inground level and it is steamy. Papers are curling on themselves. Yuck-o! Jason took the dog out last night and was so shocked with how thick the fog was, he said he could hardly breathe.

Let me just say, I sure don't miss the Louisiana humidity :) I can handle it like we have here- it never stays for too long at one time. That said, I do have A/C and believe me, it's on today. Don't worry, I'll get my share of suffering when I start slappin' on the paint and I have to have the windows open.

The shawl- wow it is *just* gorgeous.
