07.24.2005 :: A day of knitting and fellowship

Did you ever have something special to do and you get a zit? No. I'm saying something very very special and worthwhile of your time. Where you will meet many new people that potentially you will connect with. You know, on a SOUL level. Soul sisters.
And 4 days before the event a skin eruption happens. No prob. I think because to tell you the honest to god's awful truth, I am a picker. I cannot leave something alone. So, history of my skin tells me that in 4 days this will be nothing but an unpleasant memory. But this little zit had plans. Big plans. 4 days later, the day of the big shindig at Chez Orange dawns, along with the zit. It is big, people. I'm talking huge eruption red. On my cheek. I'm talking big and icky looking. I squeeze it and poke at it all morning. Well, all week really. But it does not take a hint. I clearasil it. I mega wash it with the teenagers extra duty stuff. Nothing. It is looking forward to this party as much as I am.
I now have to add BIG HUGE RED BUMP on my face as one of my little anxieties.
sigh.
As if we don't have enough to be anxious about. Really.
So, my volcanic zit and I spent a lovely day with a bunch of knitters. And spinners. And boy can they ever spin! They are the SPIN MEISTERS.
And I am not.
Perhaps I will have to accept this fact of myself.
I tried. On many a wheel. And many a coach. And I appreciated all the advice.
But truthfully I think it was all attittude. I MAY be afraid to spin. Because then I'll HAVE TO.
Do you know what I mean?
And frankly who has time for it?
So, there was knitting (although only a bit from me. I was too busy talking). And talking. And spinning. And spindling. And talking. And eating.
And what could be better than that? I cannot think of a better way to spend a day.
Thank you, Miss Claudia for opening your home and your heart to me.
It's a good thing.

To all I met, thank you for sharing a bit of yourselves with me. It was my pleasure!
And now, even though I would love to show a bit more pictures, my mouse has suddenly gone to a place that is hopefully better than this. May it rest in pieces. Poor thing. It has been showing signs of strain, but like all beloved things, we were in denial.

Zits? That means you're still young.

Don't fear spinning. It doesn't have to turn into an expensive hobby. One can go incredibly far with a handspindle.

I understand! Isn't there something ironic about having zits and gray hair at the same time? I mean, honestly!

Oh my, thank you for the chuckle. Isn't it amazing how we stress ourselves out over things like this and others hardly ever notice the thing we stressed out about.....LOL!!

If you came away from the meeting, having had a good time, then it was a successful meeting :-)

I'm clueless, I didn't see the zit. I saw your smile, your warmth, and your desperate attempts to avoid being sucked into the spinning vortex. Valiant effort. Great picture. And summary.

I am so jealous I could die.
(not really of the zit....)

I didn't see no zit. But, as you know I'm very blind. Thanks for coming and being so Sandy.

Sandy, I saw it, but guess what? It didn't matter :). Couldn't see past all your other features and the conversation. Great to see you again :).

Besides, I had a matching one on my cheek, with at least 4 layers of concealer on top of it :).

She had NAMETAGS? NAMETAGS? Too cute and funny. I missed y'all. But I did some spinning on my spindle at home, sort of in sisterhood.

How great to meet you! My nose looked horrible from being sunburned last weekend and picking at the peeling all week long. :)

How fun! I see a couple of familiar faces from Cummington.

What fun!! Pretty darned nice of that Claudia to host a spin-in. How cool that you went, and didn't let the zit stop you!

Love,
A fellow picker
