08.22.2005 :: Mittens and dried out grass, an oxymoron blog entry
There is a small amount of progress on the Estonian mitten. But progress is progress. And must be embraced. I laid it out on the dried up summer grass. We need rain, badly!
And as I was outside I looked beyond the weeds (why don't they turn brown and dry up?) and saw this little guy!
He's sitting on the mint plant. Mint. It seemed like a good idea at the time. It's pretty. And wonderful smelling. And every year, I think that I have pulled the last of it only to be surprised by it's appearance the next spring.

A friend of mine is married to an Estonian, and she brought me back a pair of mittens after a visit there. They are not half as lovely as yours. You are the Mitten Queen!

I dug up a bed of mint, put down newspaper over the winter, THEN put down landscape fabric before I planted shrubs, and the mint still came back for several years. Just got rid of it last year. And I hate to say it, but that cute little moth is probably up to no good, either.
Your mitten is wonderful! I have that same book and I keep meaning to knit from it. This year, I swear. After I finish the shawls...

Hi Sandy...which mitten in the collection is that one?
I love it!
You're on a roll...;-)

I like mint in a big terracotta pot on the porch. Not in the garden. :-)

It drives me crazy that weeds are the only things that seem to thrive when there is lack of rain. I guess that's what makes them weeds, right? If it's rain you need, I could send you some from here in Germany. Seems like that's all we've been getting lately! At least my flowers look good.
The mitten is fabulous. I'm tempted to start a pair myself.

Mint. Heh. Mint. Heh, heh.

Closer and closer, the Etherknitter drifts to thoughts of two color knitting.
Mint is voracious. Rampant. Indefatigable. Indestructable. It's probably too late for you.

Oh, but I love my mint. Look at that pretty visitor on it! Great mitten!

What a beautiful mitten! Your hands will be well cared for this winter.

Mint is relentless, isn't it. Beautiful photo though!
Love the mitten. Have you seen the new line of Palette at Knit Picks? Meant for colorwork. I saw it and thought "Sandy's Mittens!" ;)

We have fields of mint here, and it's so nice to drive near them in the early summer evening with the windows down, smelling the minty freshness....
Your gorgeous mittens have inspired me, sweetpea! xxxooo
