09.12.2005 :: Head, shoulders, (no knees) and toes!

If you were to take the KAT's right now, would you pass? You know, the Knitting Aptitude Test? Sort of like the SAT's that Bethany is getting ready for.
For instance, the following statement is true or false:
Opal sock yarn is opal sock yarn. Cast on 72 stitches and knit a sock. No matter which yarn.
I would have said TRUE.
But now I'm wondering. I even did some research on Opal Petticoat vs. Opal Rainforest. I truely expected that they would be different yarn weights. But they are not. So, it would appear that that KAT question would indeed be true.
But take a look at the petticoat sock sitting on top of the rainforest sock:
opal v. rain.jpg
See the difference?
Yeah, and opal rainforest. Hmm. I'm not so sure about it.

I may just be getting too picky and way too grumpy in my old age :)! I am not feeling the love for this Doktorfisch sock. I love the colors. But then again, is that yellow really the color that should be there?
Picky.
Grumpy.
The sock is too big anyway, so between the gargantuan size and the tepid feelings of love, this sock is at a stand still.
My attentions are directed to the Marilyn Sweater done in Blackwater Abbey yarn. WOW! Now, there is some love for you!
Have a peek even though there's not much to see yet. The cables are not making themselves evident yet, it makes no rhyme nor reason. Yet.

Blackwater Abbey yarn.
And one more project keeping my attention as of late.
Mittens.
Oh, come on! Who did not see that coming?

This is the knitpicks andean treasure yarn again. I know I've mentioned the love I have for this yarn, so I won't bore you again.
Or will I?
No. I won't.

The lovely fall weather has come in and delighted me but then is playing a disappearing act today. It's 89 degrees F right now. Ugh. I am eager to be done with it.
Autumn is welcome here!

More mittens, yay! I was thinking of casting on a quick hat for the spouse, who complains that I never make him anything (which is NOT true! I have never finished socks for his gargantuan man-feet, that's all.)

Maybe your Opal issue is about tension. You loved the Petticoat, so you knit it normally. The Doktorfish wasn't doing it for you, so your gauge suffered. Except that the purple sock should probably be smaller in that case, not bigger. Oh well, I tried. ;-)

All great projects, Sandy. Can't wait to see more of Marilyn!

Oooooo ....... mittens!!! Ooooo.... sweater!!!!

I think I'm getting carried away here. Stop doing that, Sandy!

Doesn't it feel as if we need to do some Gaian pagan rite to make sure that the fall stays put? And we just aren't getting it correct yet?

Maybe the mittens will do it. Beautiful as usual. On the other hand (heh), maybe they ensure no colder weather any time soon.

I have the Rainforest ready and waiting, but not yet started. Will watch for the problem - thanks for being the guinea pig!

LOVE the mittens! What is the pattern?

I am dying to see more of the Marilyn sweater - looks intriguing.

I've had trouble with my Rainforest Parrot. It's sitting a while too. I finally got it to do what it's supposed to, but too few stitches and too small gauge.

Who needs a sock that won't play the game? Go find something that sings out loud and clear like all your other beautiful projects.

You're killing me with the mittens.
Must. Hold. Back.

Posted by: stephanie on 09.12.2005 AT 07:19 PM

Yep, time to move on and find a sock you love! The rest of the knittin' is perfect!

Yup. I saw it (the mittens) coming. Now, Sandy, you're not going to tell me I should go buy some Knitpicks Andean Treasure yarn, are you? I have too much yarn already, Sandy! Stop!

What's going on with that crazy Dr. Fish? Is he bothering you????
