09.13.2005 :: Trouble is afoot

DSC05220.JPG
Please excuse the powder rimmed toes, but notice that on the right foot a bug bit me. Damned bug. I don't know what kind, in fact the thought of whatever creepy crawly being on my foot feasting on me kind of gives me the heeby jeebies. So I don't think about it much. At first I thought the red spot was a flea bite. What can I say? This time of year the fleas like to hop onto Fig and get a ride into a warm home. Doctor says this is no flea but was unable or unwilling to continue. She did say that she has seen 3 bites similar in nature this week alone.
My foot is swollen, so is my ankle and I am ITCHY! My kingdom for a scratch fest! Don't worry, I'm not scratching. I know that this leads to more. And more.
The prescription? Steroid prescription creme, which the pharmacy did not have yet, a steady dose of benadryl and the usual treatment of sort. Elevation, rest, and ice. The main parts of the RICE treatment.
So, I'm on the benadryl and the world is looking a bit fuzzy around the edges right now. I was hoping for a night of knitting with my foot being up and icy but I do believe that snoozing is the evening activity of choice.
Zzzzzzzzz...

Some home remedies include, taping a sliver of soap to the bite until it has opened and oozed. Another one is to put tobacco on it or meat tenderizer, both of those things I have heard helps pull the venom from bites.

Hope the benedryl/steroid cream combo works.

Earwig.

You must have the cutest toes I've ever seen. They're like...nuggets.

Cute feet, but oww that looks itchy alright. Hope the creme and benadryl are working for you. Check out http://selfportraittuesday.blogspot.com/

You've inadvertantly posted a self portait pic.

OUCH! That looks like it hurts. I hope the itching goes away soon, Sandy!

So sorry you are feeling bad. Hope everything is better soon. Benedryl is a miracle drug - I have asthma triggered by a sulfite allergy and have been doing double doses of bendryl for a week - I can barely stand upright - let alone knit, but hey It's a blissful sleep!

Smiles,
Amy

Ouch! (shudder at the bug that did it. I hate bugs)

I got one of those right between the shoulder blades during a particularly vigorous weeding session. Oh mercy! The thought of whatever-it-was crawling down the back of my shirt still creeps me out.

The good news is that the gigantic welt from hell was gone pretty quickly. Hope yours will be, too!

My cousin had a similar experience a couple of weeks ago. Lots of swelling and spots. She lived to knit on. My daughter gets huge reactions to any bite. Mayhap you are also a delicate flower, no?

ek! I had a nasty one a couple weeks ago...you know the ones that wake you up in the middle of the night and you just scratch and scratch.

ooh...sandy...so sorry! itchy itchy!

Posted by: heather on 09.14.2005 AT 08:59 AM

I've been itchin' to come over here...hehehe.

Dang bugs! Death to all biting insects, anyway! Feel better soon, sweetie!

Promise you won't pick up Creatures if you're sleepy and when you find whatever took a lump out of you, bite it back!

i completely understand. honest, go check my blog. that itty bitty rash? is now all the way up to my armpit, on my right thigh, running up my right cheek, and all over my right hand (i had to take off my stone ring :( ). i can't take benedryl, i won't be able to function, the stuff is like a sleeping pill to me. so i've been doing lots of hot water (the heat drives the histamines out, and then you don't itch for a couple of hours) and some steroid creme i had from the last rash, and some wall pounding when the itch gets too bad. it woke me up at 4 this morning! my deepest sympathies, and i hope you're doing some simple mindless knitting while you are buzzing.

Yuck. You have cute feet though :)

Jeesh, your poor foot looks swollen! Hope you and your bite are feeling better soon.

I prescribe my favorite bath: 4 or more cups of Epsom salts in an almost too hot bath. I know it won't help the bite but it will melt you... and it's good for you too - the best form of absorbing magnesium!

Bloody HELL. Don't tell me there's another as-yet-unnamed biting insect afoot. (sorry, bad pun)

I hope it clears up PRONTO. mwah!

Posted by: Norma on 09.13.2005 AT 10:13 PM

I feel really sorry for you honey. Stay on the couch as long as you can with that.
Do me a favour though? If you find out what bit you don't tell me. I have enough neurosis.

Posted by: stephanie on 09.13.2005 AT 09:50 PM

OOOH Ouch. Looks like it might be a spider bite. Hope the swelling goes down soon and you get some knitting time in!

Posted by: Jenn on 09.13.2005 AT 09:19 PM

Yuck! It does look spidery. I refuse to learn what bugs do what do people for fear I would never set foot in the yard again. RICE sounds good.

Posted by: Laurie on 09.13.2005 AT 09:04 PM

We have brown recluse spiders in our neck of the woods that do that sorta thing. They're bites are somewhat dangerous so I'm glad that you've already been to the doctor. Hope you and the foot feel better soon.

That does look ugly. It looks like it hurts. And, I hope I don't freak you out, but I'm going to guess a spider bite. My nephew was bitten by one when he was really little (maybe a year - he's four now) and it was a red splotch like that. He still has a mark too.

Hope the medicine works and it goes away soon!

Oh and I don't think you told me you watch Days - it's so goofy lately I end up missing it half the time. But isn't it GREAT that the ORIGINAL Roman is back? I love all the flash backs!

Posted by: Cara on 09.13.2005 AT 08:17 PM

I love anything that requires rest. Even a bug bite...

Posted by: Dava on 09.13.2005 AT 07:32 PM

aren't you worried about the foot fetish folks out here on the WWW?

Posted by: deb on 09.13.2005 AT 07:12 PM

Ouch! Itch...strach! Grrl, that looks ugly. Take care, relax, sleep (at least you don't scratch in your sleep, right?) and enjoy the rest.
