09.25.2005 :: hey, BUB! Whatcha doin?
Bubby Bear knit with Karen's homespun and wearing what every chic bear is sporting this fall, a Noro scrap garter stitch scarf! I call him BUB for short. Which coincidentally is what I call Fig the cat most of the time. You know, when Fig walks in the room, "hey bub!" So Bub to me, is a part of my life. Bub it is.
Since there was no swatching for said bub, he is much smaller than the 7 inches, measuring in at 5 inches. A mini bub, I guess. He's cute. And easy to work up. And fun to have around. I made him simply because I could.
~~~
Yesterday I took a trip to my Mom's house for a quick visit and to pick up something that I need to do for her. Mainly put a backing onto a counted cross stitch christmas tree skirt, which I WILL be showing you another day (because frankly, I'm too lazy and cold right now to take pictures of it today) and asking your opinions about.
What did we do?
We went to the Red Apple Farm, which is about a 10-15 minute drive from her house.
Where, by the way, the sky was gorgeous in all it's autumn glory and a bit apple scented, truth be told!
We picked apples of course!
Our favorites, Macoun, only resided on the tree, not in the store yet. So we obliged and split the 20 pounds that we picked! Guess what is for dessert tonight?
APPLE CRISP!
hi Sandy! I saw sky pics on several blogs that I read and even though I'm a day (or two...or three...) late and a dollar short, I thought I'd link you to my sky pic here: http://atimetoknit.blogspot.com/2005/09/artsy.html
I like your blog and have added it to my bloglines subscriptions. :)
Fall and apples! How much nice can it get?? :)
I hope you'll post your recipe. Mine is from an old-ish Betty Crocker cookbook (the 1980s-looking Betty with the floppy bow on her blouse, that is) and I think it works very well, but it's always fun to try other variations. :-) Especially because that cookbook hasn't surfaced since our recent move. I had to improvise last week when I made the first apple crisp of the season, and it wasn't quite right. Alas.
Bub is such a cutie! Might have to make him...lucky me to have a preschooler as an excuse. :) There's just nothing like fresh apples, is there?
Boo Hoo - We can't grow apples around here. We don't get enough cold weather - have to go about 300 miles north until we get to anywhere that MIGHT have apples. Bet they taste better off the tree instead of from the store.
Cute Bub! The scarf is cute too. Made with one of my favorite yarns to knit with! Talking about apple crisp, yummy!
We went apple picking last weekend and just loved it. Nothing like watching two small boys plucking apples with a look of wonder. Youngest actually asked, "don't apples grow in the store, mommy?"
Bub is adorable, too :-)
We went apple pickin' yesterday too! We went up to Applecrest Farm in, I don't know where. Kensington or Hampton Falls or someplace like that. We picked MacIntosh, and they were pretty small this year. We might have been better off buying the nice big ones they had up at the farm stand. But then again, where is the fun in that? It was just Pete, Meg and me. Small crowd for us. I'll be thinking of you as I make my Apple Crisp!
Ohhhhh, you did it! I am so glad. And ohhhhh, apple crisp...and fresh Macouns. My mouth is watering!
Hey! I live about 20m from RAP! Where's your mom at? It was so funny when I was lookign at the pictures and saw the famous (around here!) logo on the truck, I was like HEY!
The pre-k and kindy kids I have at school are going on Tuesday for their annual field trip. Now that DD isn't in either class I don't get to go with the school. :-(
Such a fun place, it's really grown over the years. During cidermaking time our uppergrade students go and work at the farm for an afternoon pressing and bottling cider. We have our own manual press for the school, but it's fun for them to do it the modern way, too.
When I was younger my family would take a trip every year to pick apples and get fresh apple butter. Fresh picked apples are the best! Enjoy one for me.
