I had heard that the Mission Falls 1824 Cotton yarn was being discontinued; I am horrified to hear the whole company is going under....where did you learn this sad news?

Sandy- oh mitten guru! I need some help... mitten help. You are (to me ) the mitten queen, so here goes. I am making thrummed mittens and it doesn't seem to be going well. Is there a way you are supposed to make the thrums? My instructions say "take a 2-3 inch piece of roving, twist in the middle, add to the stitch".... I have some thrums that are bigger than others! And they don't seem to be staying "in the knitting" very well. Any suggestions?

I've been reading your blog for about a year now and I think it's about time to leave a comment. I really like your writing and the things you knit inspire me a lot. You have a talent of writing so, that I feel I've known you a long time!

It's also nice to read about the weather and stuff there, because I have a favourite aunt living in New England as well, and I love to think of her experiencing the same snowstorms and everything that you are telling in your blog..

I remember eons ago when my brother and I were teens, we flipped a car and ended upside down, hanging from out seatbelts. We were just bumped and bruised, but thought we should go to the hospital. We righted the car ourselves (!!) and stopped by the house on the way to the hospital -- it was now about 1:00am. My brother went in, went to my parents' bedroom, knelt down on my mom's side of the bed and whispered to her "Mom, we're fine, but we're going to the emergency room -- just in case."

I probably don't need to tell you how she reacted.

But at the time, we were surprised.

I'm so glad to hear again that bruises and soreness are the only injuries you have to deal with.

i know exactly how you feel. 3 years ago, i got a phone call from my ex-mother in law (my daughter was living with her at the time (not my choice, but let's not go there right now)) telling me that stephanie was ok, but a bit sore, but she'd been in an accident, and all the kids had been drinking. unfortunately, this did not turn out as well as your story did. her best friend went through the windshield. none of them were wearing seat belts, and even though my daughter had been in the back seat, the driver (who was the only one of age in the car) tried to convince her to tell the police it had been she who had been driving.

once the officer told her what would happen if she really had been driving (i don't think he believed her, lol), she backed off, and told the officer who had really been driving.

her friend ended up breaking her cheekbone (wow) and her elbow. she has limited use of her elbow, and her vision on the broken side is a bit off because there was a small amount of nerve damage. needless to say, those two learned their lesson.

the jerk driving got 2 years in jail for contributing to the delinquincy of a minor.

once i got done shaking, i chewed her up one side and down the other. i know better than to think that kids (especially in the town she was in, it's a big party town) won't drink, but for god's sake, don't go out! sigh.

The colors on your blog today are wonderful. Branching out looks perfect. I can't imagine the combos for the mittens, but I'm liking the Mission Falls skeins there. My LYS switched to Aurora 8, which I think is a good thing. So I'm mourning less about the Mission Falls than I initially was.

Yay for mittens! I am in love with Mission Falls. Makin' my Ribby out of it as we speak, and I bought two bags of it after I learned they were going out of business. It's a damn shame.
