11.26.2005 :: Leftovers galore!

First of all, a great big thank you goes to all of you. I am thankful for you. Who knew that blogging could be so heartwarming? I mean really.
The days are passing, as they are apt to do. The sun comes up, the shoppers fight for bargains, life goes on even when some people have sore hearts. I am and will be fine. The fact that I am sitting here eating leftover mashed potatoes and gravy has nothing to do with it. It doesn't! Plenty of people munch their thansgiving leftovers for breakfast! Come on! You've done it, haven't you?

Knitting has been slow this weekend. It's been all about the food. And movies. And dishes. Groan. Why can't I be rich again?
This is the cuff for the second Liidia's mitten from Folk Knitting in Estonia. For those who may have forgotten, it's knitpicks andean treasures. Love. In a skein. Knitting is my plan for the day so more should be happening on that front.
This is the weekend that us college parents think that we are going to get to spend time with our dorm living children. How wrong we could be. I am no different. With College Derek moving in for the weekend, the family is once again complete. Mama hen can sleep knowing where her chicks are, safe and sound.
Is that you laughing?
Yeah. I do have evidence that he is staying here. There is a lump in his bed until mid afternoon, you know, revelie? Then there is this:

Ah, it's been a while, snack litter! I've missed you!
So, he IS living here!

When I see snack litter from my teens and pre-teens I just try to remind myself that I will miss it when they are out at college. Sandy I am so shocked about your mom's diagnosis. I keep thinking about my mom and our relationship, especially since I just saw her this past weekend. Moms are truly the ultimate, hm? They taught US how to be moms.

The mitten is gorgeous and the yarn looks yummY! Thanks for posting the yarn info, I love me some alpaca so I think I will have to check it out.

Retruning college students - hmmmm, mine never left! At least, I don't think they did - we have the same lumps in the bed and snack litter, plus late night blumping around and a full driveway when we get up in the morning. So I guess they still live here.

My leftover for breakfast choice is pumpkin pie but I like the thought of mashed potatoes!

I love the phrase "snack litter"...gave me a good chuckle. I love the looks of that mitten.

Oh yes, returning college students! Two of them and then an older son. From the blended family, a teenager and daughter also come into the fold. Snack litter there is!
Apple pie is good breakfast food too!

Just came back from T-day and catching up on blog-reading. I'm so sorry about your bad news. I'll just add myself to the list of everyone sending you love and warm thoughts. Hang in there.

I am at the point I never want to see a mashed potato again, or dressing for that matter. Errrpp. Knitting is the best thing to do at this crazy time of year. Hope you can catch a glimpse of your snack loving lump before he leaves again;-)

I just change the name when it's leftovers for breakfast. I call it "hash browns," no matter what it is. That sounds much more breakfasty. Then again, I'm more with Teresa: Pumpkin pie, apple pie, pecan pie floats my boat more. And I did make some pretty awesome cranberry-orange muffins the other night. They were meant for Thursday breakfast, but they were all gone before Ab and I went to bed Wednesday night. No need to say who ate the majority of them (it was NOT the lithe 20-year-old.)

Well, I prefer pecan pie for my breakfast leftovers, but if mashed potatoes works for you, then by all means.......

No, he isn't living there, he is depostiting his snack litter in between visits with the other college returnees. I am so not looking forward to the day my eldest goes off to Purdue (her choice of the moment). 7 years to go.

Ahhhh. Mashed potatoes and gravy. The perfect comfort food. And the perfect breakfast, too.

Snack litter! The perfect words. You make me laugh. Im stealing those words...you better copywrite them!

Yup........all of us college parents are familiar with the child that is home, but really isn't...LOL! It is good to have them home, isn't it?

Your mitten looks wonderful!
