12.01.2005 :: Do you know where your Christmas gifts are?

Caution: This entry will be characterized by randomness. It does not all make sense together. You've been warned!
~~
24 more days until Christmas. Is your shopping done?
I went Christmas shopping for one hour today after work and spent 600 bucks. Hmm. That is $60 a minute**. I'm into speed shopping!

I don't think I can resist casting on with these yarns. I've tried. But I'm powerless. I haven't finished the Liidia mittens yet. But I feel the irresitable pull to start another mitten.
~~
Here's some good news for you. My Mom had her consult with the oncologist who believes that her uterine cancer is in the very first stages. She is going to have a hysterectomy, along with ovaries and lymph nodes in the area removed. If the lymph nodes are free of cancer, which she fully believes they will be, Mom will have no further treatment. So, she's getting an operation for Christmas. Good news, huh?
~~
And just because, I decided to have a Fig photo shoot. He wanted nothing to do with it, as you can see.

I hope he's not trying to give me the finger in that last one!
** Note: I have been found out to be the math stooge that I am. It was suggested that I could fix the mistake and no one would be the wiser, but lets just leave well enough alone, shall we? I mean, if you love me, you love me even with my shortcomings. And the number one shortcoming? MATH, baby!

So glad that the news is good for your mom; I've been there with my mom and it truly does suck -- no doubt about it. But, we'll all be thinking of you and sending the best, most positive energy your way.

Sandy, I am so glad to hear the news about your Mom! I will be praying for a safe and successful surgery, and a speedy recovery! Enjoy a blessed Christmas!

Fig is a beautiful cat - and I think it's great that he's passively ignoring the camera. (I hope you're feeling better and the airborne helped; I love my jelly glass collection so much that they're packed away safe and sound, waiting for me to use when I have a place of my own again.)

Wonderful news about your Mom, and I think that gray kitties are the very best.

Glad to hear the good news about Mom.

Sandy! I'm with you on the hatred of The Math. :-) I laughed aloud at Fig giving you the finger...yes, I'm sure that's what he's doing! I'm so happy for your family with respect to your mom. Great news.

Good for your mom. What a relief that must be.

Got a mitten question for you. I'm at the two-wick decrease on my Estonian pair, and as I knit my way merrily around, I continued stranding the yarn loosely all the way around the inside. Then when I had a few rounds of decreasing done, I found that there were also huge, loose floats between the paired decreases on each side, so the mitten top wasn't "closed" at all. Do you know what I mean?... on each "edge" of the mitten I had a decrease, a long float, and then the other decrease. I guess that when you start shaping the tops of the mittens, you have to pull HARD on the yarns as you turn the "corners" by the index and pinky fingers. This sounds like a real pain--stranding loosely across the front and back of the mitten, then extra-tightly at the sides. But that IS what you have to do with these kinds of mittens, right?

That's great news about your Mom!! :)

I didn't catch the math either. I guess we know my shortcoming too... that and housecleaning.

And wonderful news about your mother! I'm so glad!

That is great news about your Mom! It's maybe not the ideal Christmas present (hard to wrap and put under a tree), but it definitely counts as a good one.

Oh, and the math? I skimmed right past it and didn't give it a thought until I saw your addition at the end of the post, then I went back and looked again, and it still took me a minute . . . Obviously I've been using my calculator way too much lately and should give my math-braincells more to do!

What great news about your Mom. The best Christmas present ever. He is one cute kitty. So... a new mitten in the works, can't wait to see.

That is good news about your mom. I hope the surgery goes smoothly and the recovery, quickly.

$600 in 60 minutes?!? Dang, woman, that's fast!

Posted by: June on 12.02.2005 AT 11:12 AM

Awesome about your mom. I hope the surgery goes well. I have had one myself and it is a blessing in disguise. One less thing to worry with!

Love the kitty - and yes, I believe that is the kitty equivalent of da finger.

I've just started the shopping this morning. Why does it always add up to three times the amount you think when it's time to pay?
That's such good news about your Mom. Keep positive.

Posted by: Tracy on 12.02.2005 AT 08:54 AM

So glad you got positive news! I'll be keeping warm thoughts for your mom!

And with math like that, you can't be held responsible for what you spend, right? Head for a yarn store, woman!

Posted by: chris on 12.02.2005 AT 08:33 AM

Clearly I am a math stooge as well, because your calculation made perfect sense to me!

Posted by: Wendy on 12.02.2005 AT 07:25 AM

I wish your mom a speedy and full recovery.

ps...I have a Math shortcoming too...oh and an attention one.

Posted by: Wendy on 12.02.2005 AT 02:18 AM

I have recently started reading your blog. I'm glad to hear you mom's news is good. Sweet kitty. Your ability to powershop frightens me!

Great news about your mom!

I'm about to cast on some mini stockings with the Jamieson's yarn, I got it in all kinds of fun colors. They'll be my ornament gifts this year.

I'm also about to dive into the 3rd pair of mittens for the warm hands knitalong. Hopefully I'll have more pics by Monday.

Great news on your Mom! As for the math part a) I didn't notice, and b) I'm still impressed with your speed shopping, no matter what the amount/min actually is.

Posted by: Rachel H on 12.01.2005 AT 09:37 PM

Could there be better news? I am so delighted and relieved for you and your mother. Hooray.

I love all the projects you have going on. I also love some random posts. It worked for me!

Great news about your Mum! Wow......I am impressed with the shopping!!! LOL

Posted by: Kim on 12.01.2005 AT 08:43 PM

I haven't done my X-Mas shopping yet. $600? For 60 minutes? i don't know if I've ever spent $10/minute.

I bow down to those who are clearly more experienced shoppers than I. :)

Posted by: Heather on 12.01.2005 AT 08:32 PM

GREAT news on your mom. And also great news for you: You didn't spend $60 a minute. Redo the math, hon. :-D

Posted by: Norma on 12.01.2005 AT 08:20 PM

Excellent news on Mom - I hope the onc. is correct. Love the cat attitude, I think he might be flipping you off!

Good news on Mom - I hope! Forget Xmas! It's all about the birthday over here. Although that shopping is quite impressive.
