01.12.2006 :: The wonder of the jaywalker

DSC05872.JPG
This time I cast on 68 stitches, instead of 72 for these Jaywalker socks, made with Tiffany yarn. This is a perfect fit for this yarn. Instead of counting to 7 between, I counted to 6. And believe me, for a while it was like a kindergarden in here.
1-2-3-4-5-6, like a mantra over and over. I got dirty looks, I'm not ashamed to tell you!
So, THERE are the nice straight lines. THERE are the wonderful zig-zaggy pattern. Welcome home, jaywalkers! I am a dropout no more!
~~
I wondered if I could capture the beauty of the predawn sky. You know, the light peeking in at the bottom, the sky turning shades of deep blue instead of black, a day in the making?

Perhaps my words are better than this picture, but in my defense, I was in a hurry. You know, standing on the front porch in my pajamas, wild hair, camera in hand. You never know which neighbor is waiting to call the hospital on the crazy knitting neighbor lady! But even though the picture lacks, oh, I don't know, unblurriness, it still shows the wonder of the colors.
Look up at yours today, okay?

Similar colors at dusk sometimes. I've always loved that combination. Thank you for the photograph.

I'm so glad you got the pattern to work out, and I absolutely love that yarn colorway! Can't wait to see them completed. Have a great day!

I love the colors of your sock yarn. It's so pretty.
I thought of you today and snapped a picture of my "sky." It's just an endless gray cloud and has been for the last month. :(

Hey! I just found this link to a Martian Sunset, and thought of you:

A photo of the martian sky!

Spectacularly gorgeous colours in that yarn!

Still haven't seen our sky in 26 days, I think.

I love that yarn you are using. Nice sock!! I looked up to our sky and it's...gray. Varying shades of gray with maybe a little dark white here and there.

Ah...the blue time. I love the blue time. The whole world takes on that hazy blue hue. I'm not a morning person, but the blue time is almost worth it.

Now, aren't you glad you ripped them back and tried again? ;)

Posted by: Imbrium on 01.12.2006 AT 04:39 PM

Oh, that is a lovely Jaywalker indeed!

Posted by: Chris on 01.12.2006 AT 04:04 PM

I had to count throughout the ENTIRE PAIR of socks. I even counted the non-increase/decrease rows to make sure I still had the correct number. Made me feel like a total moron, but the socks came out nicely in the end and my friend was pleased, so it was worth the trouble.

Jaywalkers Mk III looking great!

Posted by: Colleen on 01.12.2006 AT 02:02 PM

I love the predawn sky. It's one of the (few) perks of leaving the house before dawn, I get to see the sun rise ont he way to work.

Posted by: Cheryl on 01.12.2006 AT 01:50 PM

I made the same pattern alteration. Glad to see you're moving ahead--those socks look great!.

Posted by: Anita on 01.12.2006 AT 01:12 PM

MY, that's pretty! The Jaywalker and the sky. Even if the sky is a bit not-unblurry. ;-)

Posted by: Norma on 01.12.2006 AT 12:56 PM

Those are the same numbers I'm using on my socks . . . I'm starting to think I'm never going to get correct gauge again on anything (grin).

The sky? I actually stopped on my way to work this morning, to take a picture of the sun coming up over the hill . . . this view has become one of my favorites, and I've stopped at least four other times to take a picture there. Today was the first time that somebody driving by paused to see if my car had broken down, if I was okay. Wasn't that nice? Not bad looking fellow, either....

Nice fix on the socks! I have a sky picture tomorrow that is so cool. It's from a couple of days ago. It snowed here (for a short time) last ngiht and today the mountains are white. I need to get another picture as the sky should be blue, too!

Posted by: margene on 01.12.2006 AT 11:18 AM

I love your sky picture, and I know what you mean about that time of day when the night is not quite over and day hasn't quite begun. It's my favorite kind of sky! Thanks for sharing yours.

Posted by: Annie on 01.12.2006 AT 10:45 AM

Oh! The sock police can't arrest you now for staggering jaywalking now! Glad you are all lined up :)

Your sky is lovely! We have way too many trees and it is hard to find a spot to see the sky here.

Posted by: Dene on 01.12.2006 AT 10:10 AM

Yay! It looks gorgeous! I knew you could do it and that's such pretty yarn.

Our sky here in Missouri is so blah, even at sunrise and sunset. Growing up in western Oklahoma and Texas spoiled me.

Posted by: Laura on 01.12.2006 AT 09:55 AM

Your jaywalkers look great, I love the colors in that yarn! I think they are similar to some sock yarn I have in the stash that didn't strike me as "must knit" until now. :-)

Beautimous! I am to the heel flap pon my third attempt at Jaywalker. nice sky photo-I can't get out at dawn to take one

Posted by: Paula on 01.12.2006 AT 09:46 AM

Your Jaywalkers are lovely. What yarn is that again?
My sky is blue and the air is warm today.

Posted by: Carole on 01.12.2006 AT 09:41 AM

I love the mental picture of you in your pjs on the front porch in the dark! I am heading right out into the pre-dawn myself, camera at my side, to capture my sky while walking the dog.

Posted by: Celia on 01.12.2006 AT 09:01 AM

Your Jaywalkers look beautiful!
I wish I had my camera this morning. On my way to pick up my daughter to take her to work, there were Argyles in the sky!!!! I kid you not. The shape of the clouds with lots of criss-crossing jet trails, and the rising sun, made a beautiful pattern of glowing pastel Argyles!!! I know, I know, non-knitters would NOT have recognized the pattern......

Posted by: Jenny on 01.12.2006 AT 09:00 AM

TOO funny! There I am, standing on my balcony this morning, hair all wild and crazy, taking a picture of the sky for YOU! As soon as I opened the shades in the bedroom I thought - got to take a picture for Sandy. It's going to be 60 degrees today! Craziness. Check back later in the afternoon.

Oh and your jaywalkers ROCK. Naturally.

Posted by: Cara on 01.12.2006 AT 08:40 AM

Hooray! I'm so happy for you and your jaywalkers! Congratulations! I knew you could do it. The sky is beautiful, no matter how quickly you took the picture. :)

Posted by: Samantha on 01.12.2006 AT 08:39 AM

Oh, good for you with the jaywalkers!! And later today, I will get a sky photo for you at a location newly dear to my heart.

Posted by: Chris on 01.12.2006 AT 08:19 AM

They look brilliant! I'm thinking when I do a pair for myself I'll do a smaller version as well. Sounds perfect.

Posted by: Julie on 01.12.2006 AT 08:18 AM

You are not helping me avoid my Jaywalker urges.

Posted by: stephanie on 01.12.2006 AT 08:08 AM

Okay, your Jaywalker looks FABULOUS. Yay for you!

Posted by: Wendy on 01.12.2006 AT 07:44 AM

ALL the colors are beautiful! I love the jaywalker yarn, too. You are correct about the sky...can't tell that the colors are blurred!

Posted by: Laurie on 01.12.2006 AT 07:43 AM

I have not been sucked in to the Jaywalker blog trap yet. But you may make me do it!
I can't promise a predawn sky (it's still school holidays here!) but may get a morning sky of some description.
