01.17.2006 :: Red Rover

When I bought the yarn for the RED scarf, my thoughts drifted back a couple of weeks ago to when I bumped into Knitsmith Terri at Cranberry Fiber Arts. Serendipitous indeed. She showed me a luscious scarf and hat set she had knit from malabrigo. Well, the instant Malabrigo love is a story for another day. This is the story of me falling in love with a stitch. The Mistake Rib Stitch. I knew this Red Relative scarf had to be Mistake Rib Stitch. Well, blog readers, that declaration was a bit easier than laying my eyes on the stitch specifics. I did search, but I did not come up with a clear cut HOW TO. Eventually I did, of course, and I put it here for posterity's sake.

Mistake Rib Stitch:
*K2, P2* Repeat ending with K2, P1
Repeat every row. (on front to back stitching)

There you have it! Fun, easy and incredibly good looking on a Relatively Red scarf!

In other Red Relative news:
I had a dream. This is a coincidence to actually being the evening of Martin Luther King Day, is it not?
I had a dream about Cara, who I have never met in person. So it's interesting that I dream of someone I know only through words and pictures.
In this dream, I was knitting a pink baby sweater. Cara told me it had to be red. She changed it into red. Now, I'm not saying that Cara knows magic or anything, I'm just saying that she could change a color yarn in a twitch!

Thanks for sharing the "mistake rib stitch" pattern- very addictive. I too am doing a light less red scarf in this pattern (thanks to you), but in Lamb's Pride bulky in Antique Mauve and Mauve Dust alternating colors every 2 rows. It's fun using colors this way and not having a million ends to weave in.

Pretty yarn for the scarf. Will have to check out the Fahms soon. Good excuse to visit the North Shore.

Damn!!!! I went back and checked my entry where I thought it was entered and I left you off. I'm so sorry and will post it today. You shoulda been on December 14th with Kerstin.

I tell ya I don't know where my brain is lately but I'm so sorry. I dreamed I left you a message on here too but if I did it for real or not is beyond me. I have no clue anymore :)

My upmost apology I really thought I had you on there.

The "light red" scarf is looking good. I'm not a fan of er ... "light red" ... so that's high praise!

A gorgeous light-red scarf! (And thank you for clearing up the Mistake Rib Stitch thing...I was kind of wondering about that, too.)

I like that pattern. Very striking, and a good picture of it, too.

Great color, simple elegant pattern stitch... what's not to love? :-)

Your red mistake rib scarf looks great!

Oh, I'm a big fan of the mistake rib! And your "light red". Love it. (where's the kid? Are you carrying it along with the other yarn? I can't tell from the pic.

I sat down with my red scarf last night, and ended up ripping back all that I had done. I had three cables crossed wrong. Ugh. I guess I was every bit as tired as I thought.
I tried to "fix" them, then said, "bah, it'll take me less time to rip and reknit." so I did. It's now 42 inches long. Taking me longer than I anticipated.

I'm making my red scarf in mistake rib, too. Only I do Row 1, p2, k2, Row 2, k1, p2, k2 to end, k1.
Looks the same as yours though. Except mine is red. I'm just saying.

Oh man! I'm sorry to invade your dreams. Was I at least nice about insisting you change to red? I mean, pink's nice too.... Wait, are you telling me I actually changed the yarn? Like with a twitch of my nose? In your dream, could I clean my house like that too? ;-)

Oh, I love the mistake rib! Scarf's looking good.

I'm just working on a post for my blog. I needed a link which you very kindly provided in this post and I see that we are thinking alike on this Red Scarf project. I should be posting it soon and you'll see what I mean.

Beautiful scarf!
