01.18.2006 :: Did I fall off the turnip truck and not know it?
Well. I wanted to show you a picture of the "Light Red" scarf. But really, just glance back to yesterday's entry and you'll see what it looks like. Only longer.
Then I was going to show you my jaywalker socks. But, you know, they have actually shortened in length. The dreaded 2 steps forward, 1 step back. I am currently UN knitting about 9 rows back to a mistake. I denied the mistake in my mind. For 9 rows. I denied. Until I could deny no longer. Fine. Mistakes were made. And that is the knitting I bring to work lately. My mistake. So I must unknit. Must. Because the truth is, I do not like to make negative progress. I have been known to let mistakes sit for eternities. The Jaywalker socks are nice enough to want better for them.

Has anyone seen Winter? I miss it! It's not right to have 50F days. In January. (That's 10C for you metric fans!) Some things are just not right. Cold in winter. Hot in summer. Rain in spring. Crisp in Autumn. The seasons of life.
Let's not mess it up, Mother Nature!

Well, we're having -25C here and this is _southern_ Finland... Haven't been able to go out for a couple of days because it's too cold and windy for the baby.
But the weather is perfect for knitting so I started a nice warm and beatiful scarf with the mistake rib stitch!

Thanks for the warm thoughts. The furnace got fixed that same morning and then the next day the weather went back to warmer temps. It certainly is weird!
And yes, the Jaywalkers are worth it!

I miss winter too. I bought a new warm winter coat this year and I never get to wear it!

It has been in the 60s here too! And this is high desert - we get night-time temps in the teens, normal winter highs in the low 40s at most! And no snow! How am I supposed to go snowboarding with NO SNOW?
ugh. So unsatisfying!

Well, Minnesota is finally supposed to get snow today, but I can't remember the last time I had to remember to cover my face before going outside. I'm not sure I even know where my trusty scarf is right now. Horrors!

Oh, and I forgot to say. It's supposed to be up in the 60s tomorrow. Sheesh.

Today in D.C. it's 30 degrees colder than it was yesterday morning. If we all don't get sick and die from all this weather stupidity, I'll be amazed!

Do you know I think I've worn my coat once this winter? And that's the girl from Louisiana... sheesh! I adore snow and what are we getting? rain rain and more rain... I coulda had plenty of rain if I'd wanted just by *staying* in Louisiana... hmm wonder if it's followed me here? How about that lovely wind yesterday? I had to go pick Daniel up early because the power was out at the school and 2 of the 3 roads were blocked off due to trees down. We had to drive beneath very precariously leaning trees to get home as well. Thank goodness I didn't watch the news until after I got home.
Don't feel bad about ripping back on your Jaywalker, I'm right there with you ripping back the heel on my secreat retro-rib that's to be a birthday present next month knit jointly with another friend, 1 sock each ;) anyway, said heel had one less stitch than it should have when I got done with the turn so out it must come.

I woder why we continue knitting after spotting a mistake. We know it won't magically disappear, but I suppose there is always hope. The Jaywalkers are the kind of pattern that can't have mistakes left in, because they will be noticed. Negative progress is better than screwy socks, at least in the long run.
If you want winter, have you seen the temperature in Moscow? Brrr. Here in Germany, it's been pretty chilly, too.

Hey there--better to have your socks shorten than to have your feet lengthen, yanno? :)
50 degrees out? Holy cow, woman--the bushes and trees will bud out at that rate. Come on over here--it's still 29 and holding.
Smoocheroos, Snookums. xoxo

The winter is here! We have lots of snow and the temperature is -35 centigrade this morning. All I can say Mother Nature is doing almost a too good job around this corner of the earth... Wool is a must! Like two layers of mittens, two layers of sweaters under your coat, huge scarf to cover your nose, thick hat, long johns etc.

Perhaps the weather just hasn't gotten back from it's holiday break yet?! Definitely bizzare, that's for sure...
Posted by: Jessica on 01.18.2006 AT 07:51 PM
It snowed here today! Not as much as promised but about 3". I miss winter, too.

I want it BACK and I want it back NOW. This isn't funny anymore. What was WITH ALL THAT WIND? And rain? Helllllllooo? Puddles? No. No. No.
I'm tinking my sock more than I'm making forward progress. It occurred it me to just before dinner that all I have to show for my knitting time today is a slightly shorter sock. *sigh* There is a life metaphor in there somewhere.

I miss seasons too. That's one thing I love about living in Canada. Distinct seasons (as in other places, I know). Last night we had rain though and this morning too. Above zero it was (I'm a metric fan); it's now a little below and we've had snow. Makes for some nice sloppy slippery driving. Where are the winters of my childhood?? Guaranteed snow by the end of October and a TRUE winter... Alas. And my childhood was barely 15 years ago. Sigh.

There are people here who have found flowers growing in their yards:

Hello? It's Minnesota in January. We have a reputation to maintain.

Winter was here for a little while today ... it snowed a little bit.

MISSING WEATHER ALERT: Where is WINTER? Fracksake. Sandy? GREEN GRASS UNDER THE little bit of snow we still have. In Vermont. In January. What is WRONG with this picture??????
Posted by: Norma on 01.18.2006 AT 06:17 PM
Current temperature in Denver, Colorado: 59F. It's freaky. Supposedly they're getting plenty of snow up in the mountains (which is good, since that's where our drinking water comes from), but it's been dry and warm down in the city.
And don't you hate that lingering denial of mistakes? You know it only makes it worse, but you just can't stop ignoring the mistake, hoping it will disappear.... Good luck with the reconstruction.

I just tinked 8 rows of my Jaywalkers, twice. They are so worth it though.
Did you get the wild wind and rain this afternoon? It was pretty nasty here and all I could think was "I'm glad it's not snow." Sorry. It was 62 degrees here at noonish.
Posted by: Karen on 01.18.2006 AT 05:49 PM
I'm pretty sure winter decided to take this year off. We are having 60 and 70 degree days in the middle of the country. Well I guess it could be worse, it could be 90.

I completely agree!! I WANT SNOW!!! I leave in Indiana and we haven't had snow since December, none that counts anyway. We keep hoping mother nature is saving it up for one hella storm in February.
