02.08.2006 :: Come in! Welcome to my knitting place meme!

Well, let's see, what did I promise on this Blog IOU? I hope I did not give my stash away!
First up: My knitting place! At first, I was going to post this picture to fullfill my knitting space meme tagged by Meg!
DSC05992.JPG
Because I'd like everyone to believe that I live in a pristinely clean home that is magazine worthy. However, perhaps you know me better than that by now. So, I decided to show this one:
DSC05995.JPG
Besides the garish flash, this is the real home. See the cluttered computer desk, the table next to the sofa filled with knitting needles and photos and a bottle of wine (It's Bearitage Claret that Andy got me for Christmas and I'm not sure I'm going to like it!) The yarn filled kitchen chair that is there to prop up your feet when computering, the netflix envelope waiting to go back ( I believe the movie inside is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which I loved! Johnny Depp. If he's in it, I'll see it!) The ugly, ugly carpeting in pine green. This carpet has been here since we moved in. I know. Why did we do that? We intend to change it. The intent just gets pushed off further and further. I mean, it's a lot of work! :)
What about when I sit there?
DSC06041.JPG
Oh, the flash makes things a bit bright. The room has a cozy glow to it usually! (read:Dark and hard to read) Yes, cozy. Ahem. I hate bright lighting, my eyes hate dim lighting lately. Go figure. A conundrum.
So, there are my feet, on the ottoman. See the hockey bag? Yup. It sits there every day. Our home seriously lacks closet space. But really, who has a closet big enough to store a hockey bag in? I salute your closet if it's that big. The chair behind it is as old as the hills. We should get rid of it. The only reason it sticks around is that Fig hides under it during thunderstorms and I can't bear the thought of him running around, trying to get under all the furniture while scared out of his wits. So, it sits there. It was given to us when we were first married and it was old then. It too is ugly, but it makes a good closet chair. Yes, closet chair. Coats, mittens, newspapers, laundry, blankets: they all end up here. I can't stop a force this powerful. Believe me, I've tried!
My knitting place. It's home! Should I tag someone?
Okay, um....how about Lisa. Geez, she probably did this months ago and I just can't remember. But this is a meme that should keep on going, don't you think?
Who else? Donna? Have you done this one?
It's almost painful for me to choose people. Are you happy? PAINFUL? Look what I do for you? Oh, sorry, sometimes it's hard to turn off the mother of a teen thing.
:)
And the final choice to do this meme: YOU. Yes, I'm talking to you. I tag you. Leave a comemnt here and we will all, in an orderly mob, visit your blog and see your home.
Okay, this is one part of the IOU done. More to come apparently. I'll keep the light on!

There you go, I've responded to your universal meme tag. Boy my house is messy.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one without the magazine perfect home. I've posted my space and you're welcome to visit anytime. Thanks for sharing yours.

Hello - and it's great to see your knitting spot. It's fun to see everyone's "nest."

I'm going to take you up on your tag, and show the spot where I'm diligently working on my knitting olympic project!

Hi Sandy! I love the color of your sofa and the green carpet brings back memories of home. Come on over to my place and please forgive the clutter. I have 12 year, 6 year and 17 month old boys who daily leave their trails in the house. I posted a picture a while back, but I've changed the quilt and expanded the scope to share with the world this olympic knitters' quarters. Have a wonderful day and happy knitting:D

I like the green carpet! It's unexpected, in a lovely way.

I do most of my knitting at work, and we're not supposed to take pictures in here...security and all. I'll try to get my spot at home tomorrow, but no promises (not because I'll back out, but because I have a terrible memory.)

Ah, your house aint bad....you can still see the floor!!!Yeah, we've been "gonna replace" the carpet in our house for the past 19, ahem, years, but ours is 'burnt orange". Ah, who cares anymore....the new carpet smell would make it hard to breathe, and I'd hafta board somewhere til it wore off.......
Iffen I had a blog, I would not have "a" knitting place. I knit in bed, in the car, at the kitchen table, on the sofa, wherever there is an available spot to work, again ahem.
I love the "closet chair".....how about closet house for me, oh, but I don't want to appear on the nightly news.........

P.S. Posted a pic of the fair isles bag i'm to knit for the knitting olympics! Told you I'm nuts!

I too like the shade of green that your carpet is. It's quite fashionable these days. May I suggest painting your walls a pale blue or a pale green and play up the color? It's much cheaper and a little easier than having new carpet installed.

Maybe I'm just in a painting frame of mind ;-)

Nice tour of your knitting knook.

I haven't done this one yet, I'll post them tomorrow. I promise.

Your wish is my command! :-)

BTW, I had Bearitage something-or-other once, and it wasn't bad at all. It was a Merlot-and-something blend (cab, probably.)

We have 4+ hockey bags (1 teen boy, 1 teen girl, 1-11yo boy and 1-5 yo girl, plus the husband's referee and coaching bags, the lacrosse bags, and the boxes of extra skates, gear, jerseys, etc) so they live in an unfinished room in the basement. The several dozen sticks live in the garage with the pucks, balls, nets.... Currently the yarn lives in a couple of big plastic bins under the end tables and coffee table in the living room but it is hoping for an armoire or pie safe of its own soon. Thanks for the visit.

Since the orderly mob has already visited my home, I think I'll pass.

;-)

YAY! Thanks Sandy!

I hear you on the closets. I have two in my house plus a little cubby that was set up to hold coats (read indent in wall with rod). We have a swimmer so we also have lots of gear sitting around. This year we got a hall tree which has helped with the coats, mittens, backpacks and such.

Posted by: Mindy on 02.09.2006 AT 10:30 AM

I'll go right now and take a pic. Then I will hobble back and post it. Thanks for making me exercise.

I've been tagged. The first time ... guess I wasn't ducking and dodging well enough. OK - remember those things we listed a while back that we don't do too much anymore. I don't think I mentioned cleaning up the clutter, but for those brave enough to visit, I'll put on a pot of coffee, whip up some cookies and take some pictures this weekend.

You could always knit a Hockey Bag Cozy....

Your knitting spot looks terrific. An ottoman! Oh, my kingdom for an ottoman! Or any man, for that matter. ;)

Someone mentioned the color of your sofa is like the sky....which brings to mind that the color of your carpet is like the rolling green hills of Ireland. There. Don't you feel better about the carpet now? It works for me!

Thanks for sharing. I don't have a blog so I can't post a picture of my knitting spot. I can relate to the enormity of that hockey bag. I have a figure skater and as we come and go from the rink we pass the hockey families. I am constantly amazed at how such small kids need stuff that fits in those huge bags. Then the teen hockey players come in and it's those freakishly large bags like the one you displayed. I swear they could fit a body or three in one of those things. The carpet is quite nostalgic!

Thank you for posting the "full disclosure" photos. It's nice to know that you, the Sky Queen, are human and live in a normal looking home, not a House Beautiful magazine spread.

And hey! Was that Paula Dean on tv in that photo? I bet whatever she was cooking took at least "two sticks of buttuh."

Your knitting spot looks very cozy! I will go post mine right now.

Posted by: Kelly on 02.09.2006 AT 06:19 AM

Okay, I posted a picture of my knitting spot. You're lucky I didn't post one of my kitchen. I enjoy reading your blog. And I don't have a big enough closet, either.

Posted by: Pat K on 02.09.2006 AT 12:46 AM

Thanks for sharing! It's so fun to peek into houses. This has to be one of the best memes I've seen.

Posted by: Chris on 02.08.2006 AT 11:33 PM

I really like the color of your couch - it looks like sky. Gee, what a surprise! As for the closets, well, dude, I hear ya. My house has 3 freakin' closets TOTAL. Yup. 3.

Posted by: Carole on 02.08.2006 AT 10:45 PM

Oh my gosh you are SO BRAVE to allow a hockey bag in your house! Thank god Jason keeps his hockey gear in the coaches room at the rink.

I can smell the stink just thinking about it.

Posted by: Kate on 02.08.2006 AT 09:43 PM

I haven't done it yet, but just for you, I will, I promise :)

Posted by: Donna on 02.08.2006 AT 09:15 PM

You have my sympathy, mother of teen...,trying to carve out a little space/time for yourself to knit.... I have a new blog and haven't figured out how to put pictures on it yet. When I do I will put up a knitting spot photo. What is a meme?

Posted by: meredith on 02.08.2006 AT 09:14 PM

I do! I have a closet big enough to hold a hockey bag. Unfortunately it's all full of other CRAP, so the hockey bag wouldn't fit in there, still. ;-)

That looks like a damn comfy knitting spot. Thanks for sharing.

Are those felted clogs on your feet? Mine are on my feet. I love your knitting spot and that your house looks like mine.
My laundry, etc spot is on the floor next to my high chest. It's just a natural magnet for stuff!

Posted by: Chris on 02.08.2006 AT 08:00 PM

Now, see? I'm about to re-do my living room and we are considering a color scheme where that carpet would be wonderful! I love that shade of green, at least the shade that is coming up on my monitor...and the cookie tin...good idea. Thanks for having me over, Sandy.
