02.26.2006 :: Why having a muffler on your car is a good thing

Today I was supposed to attend the closing ceremonies of Team Boston of the Olympic Knitters. I was attending only as a flag holder though because I did not olympically knit. But Cara was in town and how could I miss it, really? All night long I wrestled with the fact that I did not want to go. I did not have a rational explanation for this so I assigned one, in typical Sandy fashion. I reasoned with myself that it was because I was tired and I had a ton of laundry to do and no clean clothes to wear and the meatballs that I promised to bring were not done in fact the ingredients still resided in the grocery store. I reasoned away, convincing myself this was why I could not go. The universe is a funny thing though. I am often in touch with the WHAT I should do but not the WHY.
The reason became clear this afternoon as Andy came inside and announced that the muffler had fallen off the car. Oh, goody. He also told me I could drive it locally, if I could stand it.
I bravely climbed into old faithful and made my way to Whole Foods, where I needed to look for some happy camper product. Because I need it and it can't hurt. Norma told me about it. And Norma would not kill me, would she? I did not find it there, by the way, making me NOT one. I'll look at the vitamin store tomorrow. But the irony of me LOUDLY driving into the Whole Foods parking lot did not escape me. Me ruining the sound environment within buying distance of an organic market. Get it?
Bethany now calls our muffler-less car the PimpMobile. I don't pretend to understand, I just laugh along.
Driving to and from Boston without sound control would have been a bad idea. For all involved. There is only so many looks of apology I can fling around. And the sound is tooth-rattling.
So, Carole and Dale, I will make Swedish Meatballs for dinner tonight. I dedicate them to you.
Pass the lingonberries!

Ah, intuition serves you well. Sometimes we have to follow the what and trust that the why will follow.

Good luck de-pimp-ifying the PimpMobile. :)

Sandy, you have to let me know if that stuff works. Because seriously, I could use a big ol' dose of that stuff EVERY SINGLE DAY. I bet my boss would even buy it for me :)

Yum! What time is dinner?
Thanks for being my coach, Sandy. I posted pics of my nearly finished project this a.m. Hope to finish tonight. As a matter of fact, I am looking for the ibuprophen as we speak!
You are a great lady and I hope I can get your addy. I want to send you a small thank you gift.

Love you!

I was in the same boat (exhausted and no clean clothes) but the universe didn't hand me a Deciding Reason.... unless you count the fact that I was simply unable to change out of my pajamas until about 4pm...... ;) Hope your car gets better soon!

OH NO, you're going to try some of that freaky herbabolic stuff? Um....I'm sure Norma wouldn't kill you. Uh-huh. I'm sure. You don't have any yarn around that she's hankering for, do you? Um....heheee!

I know nothing of your meatballs, so I only missed you! There will be other opportunities. Like what are you doing for lunch tomorrow? Some Roast Beef and Fried Clams at Land & Sea in Peabody? We'll be there probably. Lemme know. I'm not kidding. L, C

And it's not even Tuesday! Sorry for your muffler, but glad you get to eat yummy meatballs.

Now you just need some fancy-schmancy hydrolics on the car and you can be really pimped out :-)

Hugs to you, we're all here for you -grumpies and all. Much Love.

I asked everyone if they had seen the meatballs... I mean, if they had seen Sandy. There's always next time!

See - I told you that there was a reason! Good that you stayed close to home today after all. But I did miss your meatballs. I mean, you. Yeah, I missed you!

Oh, I understand the horror of the muffler. Mine rusted through when I was a college student delivering pizzas to pay the rent. I'm sure the good people of Fargo were less than pleased with me driving through their neighborhoods at 1 a.m. with no muffler! My manager kindly switched around my schedule so that I could have it repaired the next day.

Then again, I am very jealous of the lingonberries! Enjoy.

I can relate - there are days it's just hard to deal with big groups, even wonderful big groups of knitters.

B vitamins, especially B-12, are also very helpful for mood. I was having a rough time a year or two ago and it turned out to be a sever B-12 deficiency. Now I take shots (I can't absorb it from food or pills, alas) and it makes a world of difference.

*hug*

Yup. Missed you.

The thought of you driving a pimpmobile does make me smile, though.

;-)

Aww, we certainly missed you. I'm not so good with crowds but it wasn't overwhelming. When the muffler fell off my car it stayed attached at the front so I couldn't back up- we had to have it towed, argh! Hope the ever-lenghening daylight will soon nudge you into feeling more cheerful. Mopies are never fun :/

It's official. I knit too much.

My first thought on seeing the title of this post was, "Cool, she knit a scarf for her car! I wonder if she posted the pattern?"

Happy Camper is the BEST! You do make me smile, though! Thank you for your kind words about my OK sweater, too.

You make me laugh so hard. No, I would not kill you - I promise! (Well, maybe, if you DON'T SNAP OUT OF IT!!)

LOL. Take the PimpMobile to the vitamin/herb store tomorrow, if you can. It's good stuff, that.
