04.20.2006 :: No knitters will be sued. Not today. Not anyday.
I'm hoping no one will actually sue me for misuse of the phrase Sandy's Knitting. Because, let me tell you folks, she Isn't! Knitting. At all. For about a week.
What have I been doing? Do you really think that I have been rolling around crying all week in misery? ~ALright, who said YES?~ Okay, I have done my share of shedding tears at all the wonderful, supportive comments left BUT I've been a bit busy doing this:
I'm almost done the 3rd book of the Stephanie Plum series. I may have to go to either the library or the bookstore tonight to get more. I'm hooked! I have found myself giggling right out loud sometimes. Stephanie is my kind of girl! Well, if you don't count that I have never ever come across a dead body. Or eight. And I hope to keep it that way!
So, reading. Feeling lucky and happy as a clam for having friends like you. I can see that this empty nest thing will be a lot easier with the bunch of you routing me on!
Bethany is gone to Philadelphia on the band trip until Monday night so we get a test weekend. It's awfully quiet in here already!
Tomorrow, in celebration of practice empty nest weekend, I am going to Classic Yarns at Grafton to see a certain friend. With a certain friend. And wouldn't you agree that spending time with certain friends is a certain way to good mental health?
Hmm?
Sure! She's the one reading and going to visit knitting friends and I supposedly have a boring life??!!

OMG! You will not be able to stop until you have finished every last word of every last book. They are the funniest books ever! My sister and I read them and when we come to funny parts that make us laugh out loud we will call each other up and simply read the part that made us crack up (that is if we can get the words out through the tears of laughter). Can't wait for the next one. ENJOY :)

Those books are the greatest - it's not often I laugh out loud while reading a book. The hard part is when you have read them all and then wait (impatiently) for the next one to come out. Enjoy!!

I LOVE the Stephanie Plum series books! I have embarrassed myself so many times laughing out loud on planes, etc. -- trying to choke back the laughter is even worse. I've long said that Sue Grafton makes me chuckle but Janet Evanovich makes me laugh out loud. Enjoy! They get funnier with each book.

I'll have to look into those books!
Hey, Sandy, I have a question -- what does the button on your right sidebar mean -- the one that says, "BP Winter '05-'06" and has a snowman in the freezer?

Love the Stephanie Plum series! I usually get in trouble when I read one because I laugh out loud until I have tears rolling down my face. Grandma M. is so funny!

Have you ever read anything by Sharon McCrumb? She's written a series about a small town in Appalachia that is wonderful ... the first book is "Whenever I Return Pretty Peggy-O".
I'm glad you're feeling better these days. Good books and good friends will do that for you.

Now, that's the kind of afternoon that would lift anyone's spirits. Not sure if it's the way to good mental health (since I'm not sure either friend claims perfect sanity), but certainly good times all around ;-)

When you finish the Stephanie Plums, try the China Bayles series by Susan Wittig Albert (herbal lore, recipes, crafts, murder and mayhem, madcap adventures..). There are more than a dozen so they'll keep you entertained for a while. Have a fun weekend.

Stephanie Plum is one of the best cures for the blues I know. Wait until you get to the later books. Go Grandma. Go Mom. (You'll see.) Don't forget to find the special Christmas novella that came out a couple of years ago.
Stephanie, certain friends, and yarn. You can't go wrong.

Her Stephanie Plum series is great, but her other books aren't nearly as good. :) Enjoy reading. :)

Ranger or Morelli? That's the big question. Stephanie Plum rocks! It's the perfect pick me up.

Sounds like a grand evening is coming tonight! The two "friends" will surely lift anyone's heart.
And thanks for the new books suggestions - I am totally a book hound, and hate it when I've nothing to read! Have a joyous time tonight, you certainly deserve it.
How's your back btw??

As I catch up on my reading of blogs I was touched to core by your "blues" regarding the changing relationship with your youngest daughter. It reminded me of many moments in the last 9 years as I've watched my daughters leave for college, move to distant cities, and celebrate the wedding of the eldest. Maybe the moment was even more poignant since my youngest daughter has just arrived for a visit from Boulder, Col. and we are headed to Boston for a family day with my two daughters and son-in-law.
Although we only get together three times a year if lucky, we all very quickly fall into our familiar bantering and support. We rearrange schedules and do all we can to be together at these times.
It sounds to me like you have a wonderful relationship with your daughters and that will grow and continue as they become adults. Think of your relationship as a bit of intarsia knitting. As you leave off one color; you attach a new one just as beautiful weaving a pattern that delights the eye, the mind and the soul.
By the way Janet E. and Stephanie are the best reads to beat the blues. I've never laughed so much!!!

I love Stephanie Plum. I reread them when I need a lift. They're just as funny the next time around.

Have fun seeing the Harlot tonight. Say hi to Claudia for me. :)

I discovered Janet Evanovich on a camping trip when I actually found myself with time to read but no book. I grabbed Seven Up from the campground store and had low expectations. But I was wrong! Very funny. (Warning: Stay away from Full House and a couple of other books in that series; they are romances in the strictest, cliche-ridden sense, and lack all of the clever characters and humor of the Plum books.)
Lula rocks.

Wait, there's a yarn shop in Grafton? Just down the commuter rail from me and I didn't even know? I might need to make a pilgrimage - wanna be my spiritual guide? heh.

Have fun tomorrow night! I'll miss hanging out with you guys!

Certain friends like those certain friends may be good for one's mental health, but rumour has it they're not so much good for helping people avoid, um, 'accidents' in yarn shops. And they've been known to cause gigglings of such magnitude that they induce abdominal cramps.
Have a great time. :o)

Excellent kitty picture. :)
I LOVE the Stephanie Plum books. You will SO need to go out and buy all the rest of them... My question to you - Ranger or Morelli? Morelli or Ranger? Get caught up through the most recent book before you answer. :)

You should listen to Stephanie Plum on Recorded Books audiotapes. Her Grandma makes me laugh out loud. And her poor cars.

A Sandy sighting tomorrow. YEAH-HOOO! See you in less than 24 hours :-)
Posted by: Kate on 04.20.2006 AT 07:29 PM
Oh! My mom & I love the Stephanie Plum series! And Ranger... mmmm... he's delish. ;) We're impatiently waiting for the next to come out. Enjoy!

Oh, I love those books! DH said he never heard me laugh so much at a book when I started with 9, when Lula hit Vegas! I then worked my way backward to 1. I also read all of Sue Grafton's books that way. Check big chain bookstore sales tables.
Posted by: Paula on 04.20.2006 AT 06:25 PM
Yay for certain friends. Don't do anything I wouldn't do. :)
Posted by: Norma on 04.20.2006 AT 06:17 PM
Yeah! Sandy is gonna go have fun and some even of the fibery pursuits. Heck if ya don't even knit a stitch hanging out with knitting buds is the best.
Posted by: Anne on 04.20.2006 AT 05:24 PM
Maybe Fig and Igor need a play date.
Ummm. Scratch that.
Posted by: claudia on 04.20.2006 AT 05:18 PM
Those books are super-awesome. I read the entire series a couple of summers ago when I was unemployed and feeling like a dork...it's a good way to get out of a funk, that's for sure :)
Say hi to Steph for all of us!
Posted by: Libby on 04.20.2006 AT 05:10 PM
Those are great books for chasing away the blues! Have fun tomorrow night and please give hugs to all from me. Okay?

Certain friends are the best friends.
I actually had that series recommended to (read: thrust upon) me just this week. Good to hear another good review!

Glad you are feeling a little better. We were worried. And be careful, I hear that Certain Friend might force you to buy lots of beautiful yarn. Have fun!

Stephanie Plum books are highly addictive! Stephanie is a riot. I laugh right out loud frequently when reading Evanovich's books. I love Granma Masur, too. Go, granny!
