04.23.2006 :: Blogging the hate**

**This was a predetermined blog title, hatched up while sitting at a table where fun abounded. I promised Jackie and Kate that I would name the blog entry with those words because in truth, they hated all over me. They were a teensy bit jealous of my yarn purchase, you see. We all understand that. What yarn exactly? Artyarns Merino.

The most wonderful, soft, richly colored sock yarn in the whole world. But, knitters, let's ponder the price, shall we? Who really WAS the wise one in this instance. If you walked into a store and saw a pair of socks for $40 (about 32 EUR), would you buy them? I wouldn't. Absolutely and resolutely. No. but I see yarn that will cost me $40 to have a pair of handknit socks and I don't hesitate. Okay, I DID hesitate. And when I shelled out tons of this hard earned money, I caught grief. Just jealous, really. :) So, I dedicate these money challenged future socks to Kate and Jackie, who proved to me that age is not necessarily wisdom when it comes to matters of money or the feet.
Knitters turned out in droves to the small shop to support one of our own. It was a soul satisfying evening for me, just what the doctor ordered. I thought of you. Here's some pictures:
We stood elbow to elbow, in our support of a Yarn Harlot. And what's a knitter to do while waiting?
DSC06475.JPG
Here's MamaCate, Carole and Kat with a K, who impressed me to no end as she knit on birch all evening long. Don't they all look great?
And Stephanie, of course:
DSC06478.JPG
She looks happy along with her traveling sock du jour.
And Linda? I'm always happy to see her! We share a love of peace fleece!
DSC06481.JPG
I do believe that is her husband Jay who was the bodyguard of the evening. Just so no scuffles develop over any yarn. You know us knitters? (See pink yarn up above)
Bookish Wendy, in all her cuteness holding her future Birch yarn:

She's not really giving anyone the finger. It's just accidental.
So, as you can see. A good time was had by all.
Really. It's obvious from the pictures, isn't it?
There's more, but I will keep it for tomorrow. Can't get all my blogging done on one day, can I?

I LOVE these pictures. I love how much they show about the people without showing the people, how the hands and the knitting are the characteristics. Just wonderful.

Also, I lust for that pink/brown artyarns with an uncontrollable passion.

what fabulous yarn - and what a fun time it looks/sounds like you had.
Thanks for giving such pleasure long distance! Wish all the bloggers could have been there!

Ooh, that yarn is pretty. I felt a little bad about ordering STR in Hot Flash. I feel better now. I am going to a conference and am planning to hit an LYS or two. In the neck of the woods where the Mason-Dixon blog authors were signing books last week. (There was an awful thunderstorm, on the days they were in AL, and I was trying to get lightning pix for you, to no avail.)One day I will make someone's book tour. DH says to write my own book.

Hi, I was on the lookout for fellow knit bloggers, guess I missd you at Webs, maybe next time.

Posted by: Diane E. on 04.24.2006 AT 07:18 PM

Sounds like you had a wonderful night. And the Artyarns? It's not just yarn...it's a souvenir!

Posted by: Imbrium on 04.24.2006 AT 05:19 PM

Sandy,
Great pics! Especially of the "finger" were all getting;-> Too funny!

Glad you were there in support of the "Harlot." Her tour is going everywhere but Raleigh. No such luck for me, though I did get to meet Debbie Stoller when she stopped here on her "Happy Hooker" tour. She is a very down to earth lady.

Love the yarn. I say it is worth every penny!

I think that, from now on, we all need to wear blog nametags. I was standing all alone (well, with the boyfriend in tow), realizing that I had no idea whom anybody was but hearing blognames that I recognize and read in other conversations all around the room!

Posted by: Jena (the yarnharpy) on 04.24.2006 AT 12:26 PM

Honestly Sandy - you're not even getting the name right. It's not just any Artyarns Merino, but the ULTRA-merino ;)

*drool*

That stuff was like heaven.

So great meeting you in person! Even though I'm a hater and all. ;)

What a wonderful day!! Looks like you guys had a blast. And that beautimous ArtYarn....who can put a price on it?
xoxoxoxo

Posted by: Kim on 04.24.2006 AT 08:21 AM

Marcy said it was a fun time on Friday night.

The Artyarns really are very nice.

Posted by: Helen on 04.24.2006 AT 08:15 AM

Sandy,
1. if you love the yarn, it's never too expensive.
2. just think, instead of knitting- you could drink... just sayin'-- a knitter it better than a drunk
3. it's very pretty and soft too
4. you can not put a price on art, so why put a price on ARTyarn? :)

Hey, I have #4 of the Stephanie Plum-- email me if you want it. :) I am done reading it, i'll toss it in the mail. ;)

Road trip = fun times.

Posted by: claudia on 04.23.2006 AT 10:04 PM

So, while everyone else fondled and dreamed about that yarn, you DID something about it. Good for you! I love the colors. I admit to fondling it too.

Posted by: Judy on 04.23.2006 AT 08:38 PM

Fun! Thanks for sharing, for those of us far away from the excitement. :)

Posted by: Chris on 04.23.2006 AT 07:42 PM

Awesome, Sandy! Seeing you was one of the highlights of my evening, hon.

Posted by: Carole on 04.23.2006 AT 04:37 PM

Great to meet you - love the photos. (My camera battery was regrettably dead when I got there.)

Posted by: Theresa on 04.23.2006 AT 03:50 PM

Is that Ultramerino 4 or Handpaint stripes? It's fabulous!

Posted by: Jane on 04.23.2006 AT 02:53 PM

Ahh...but as our dear Yarn Harlot says in her new book. If those socks take you 10 hours to knit, your entertainment value is only $4 an hour. Quite a deal! And then you have those gorgeous socks to wear when you are done.

Posted by: Heather on 04.23.2006 AT 01:23 PM

Oh! You and Steph and Carole and Wendy and, and, and -- SO MUCH FUN! I can just feel it. Absolutely love all the pics and I'm looking forward to more.

Posted by: Vicki on 04.23.2006 AT 01:18 PM

Great pictures of all the hands . . . and, is it just me? Or, with the exception of that beautiful yarn you pt at the top of the page, were blue and green THE colors to be wearing and/or knitting with?? I mean, really, what a color-coordinated post.

I'm so jealous. You all sound like you had so much fun!

Posted by: --Deb on 04.23.2006 AT 11:43 AM

Grrr... I will be marveling at your love of knitting those socks.
Sandy, it was SO GOOD to see you, and this time I actually got to talk to you for more than a few minutes YEAH! You sure know how to put an instant smile on someone's face. MUCH LOVE to you and the yarn. Pet it for me will ya?

Posted by: kate on 04.23.2006 AT 11:21 AM

You are SUCH at tease!

Posted by: Rachel H on 04.23.2006 AT 10:48 AM

I just bought some Artyarns a few weeks ago -- it's seriously yummy -- you'll love it!

Posted by: Kathy on 04.23.2006 AT 10:38 AM

One's blogging work is never done.....

Posted by: Cathy on 04.23.2006 AT 10:18 AM

LOL. Yay for the wonderful pics. Too bad this was not your H entry. For hands. Or did you already do that? I can't keep track.

So, like, here's the thing that Claudia has convinced me: That $40? How many hours will you be knitting on and loving those lovely socks? Divide that into the 40 buckerinos, and you'll have to agree that it's pretty damn cheap entertainment. And where else can you get bliss for $40? Okay, four bottles of menage. But other than that? Nowhere. She (and I) rest my/our case(s). I'm sounding more and more like a lawyer every day, huh? It's by osmosis.

Posted by: Norma on 04.23.2006 AT 10:18 AM

was that you i was talking to when i picked up the artyarns? is that the $22/skein yarn?
