Dog days of Summer
Apparently, over the winter, many of my neighbors got dogs. Not just any kind of dog: BARKY kind of dogs. And they have been Kind enough to get a schedule going so that there is at least one barking/yippy dog outside at all hours of the outrageousness that is dawn-wake up hour, of course, picking up the schedule in the evening. The early evening to late bedtime shift is especially populare as we sometimes are treated to stereo barking. I noticed yesterday that there is now the proud addition of a howler. That was particularly gratifying.
Maybe I'll send Fig under their bedroom window tomorrow morning to meow his little heart out.

Let me at em. First, though, let me take a little snooze

I feel your pain - we have a howling dog in the neighborhood. Argh. Fig and Chaos will have to share pointers on how to best annoy the owners of annoying neighborhood dogs...

I lost your email address, but I think Norma is gonna kick my arse! I posted that you have a better garden, with gnomes and stuff. Uh oh. So, if you never hear from me again, you'll know NORMA DID IT!!!

our dog has gotten barky with old age. he used to not mind being tied up to his lead in the yard, but now he hates it and will bark. the huge weeds in our yard though muffle the sounds.

Harold is adorable. Bailey has turned into one of those yippie dogs--I'm trying to cure him of it, and it's better than it was, but oh man. I feel for you and Fig, surrounded by those annoying barks!

I may offer to trade the dogs for the lawn mower/leaf blower guys who are around every moment of daylight in the neighborhood.

As Carole said, I feel your pain. There are two miniature daschunds two houses down that bark incessantly when they are outside, one large barky dog next door (fortunately, the second dog is quiet), and two keeshonds across the street that also bark incessantly when they are outside. It seems that the smaller the dog, the more it feels it needs to bark. But it's very annoying. Good luck getting through the summer!

Yeah, my beloved QUIET and NICE next-door neighbors, (husband was a State Trooper so I always felt safe when his car was in the driveway), moved away and in their place are people who not only have a non-stop barking dog but they also installed an alarm system that is tripped at the slightest breeze, when they're not home, mind you, so it goes off for an hour before someone comes home to turn it off. Joy, joy.

Time to move, I fear....

Wow, it's been forever since I lived out in the 'burbs. It's rare to have a landlord allow dogs here. I can't imagine the anxiety. Yesterday, someone on the first floor left their door ajar and their cat was roaming the hallway. Poor thing, she looked so scared. I brought her back over, knocked on the door, and put kitty back in. Dogs barking? Hell, no! You have them animal control people, use 'em. (Wish they took people, like my brother, but that for another post...)

We too have inconsiderate dog owners for neighbors and I have NO qualms about calling the dog officer in our town- it has gotten better with time after many, many calls and fines pain out by them. The officer never tells the owner who made the complaint which makes it easier. I own a dog and she doesn't bark incessantly- only on occasion to alert me. I thank her and she then stops.

I used to loathe garden gnomes, but I think Harold is kinda amusing.

In our community we have a "Dog Officer". Some barking is reasonable...like when Master is taking a quick shower and Rover wants back in! But nonstop barking gets a call to Animal Control who take their jobs very seriously. Rover gets three warnings but #4 and onward gets hefty fines....makes for responsible/considerate masters! :-)

Ok, I've been watching the post for Harold's brother Hank, but he hasn't turned up ANYWHERE. Does he have anxiety of traveling, too?

Don't you hate frickin' neighbors?

I feel your pain - I have a neighbor with a dog that barks and whines for hours at a time. One day last week (it was a Friday so I was home early) the dog was outside and no one was home and he barked/whined from 2:30 until 8:00 pm. It was horrible. It ruins any time we can spend outside on the deck.

I doubted Harolds charms, but now I get it. Especially funky style.

It seems to be a dog summer here too. They decided to celebrate the weekend in style last night. Unfortunately, even Jasper-the-deaf-cat's ear piercing howl just doesn't seem to have the same effect. The neighborhood babies were having a little wake up the earth concert this morning too but that is a much happier noise. I love the orange yarn--I think orange is underrated.
