07.15.2006 :: Cloudy with a chance of meatballs
My sky was filled with clouds today. Which is fine with me as it kept the unbearable heat to a screaming minimum.
Perhaps not meatballs, but rather grilled chicken, grilled summer squash and baked brown rice. I encourage you to try the rice recipe. It is the greatest. I also encourage you to read the book, Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs. I still miss reading to the kids. If I start reading books to a random child on the street, would THAT be bad?
:)

i remember that book as well, lol. another favorite was "the stinky cheese man and other disfunctional fairy tales."
have you thought about volunteering at a local children's hospital, and reading to them? i'd bet they'd love "cloudy".
and we had beef & pork kebobs with grilled sliced potatoes and pepper wedges. yuuuuuuuuumy.
as for baked rice, i don't wanna heat the house up liek that, but maybe i'll try it when it's not 106 outside

We found "Cloudy..." at a yard sale and snatched it up because I remember it from when I was little.
I'm still reading every day to my kiddos. I know I will miss the snuggly time when they start reading on their own. So let me know how it goes when you approach a random child to try to read to them!! Someday I might be tempted to do the same thing!

We read that book ALL the time. We don't know who loves it more us or the kids!

That sounds very good! I have tried a rice recipe that's very similar and it is delicous. I'll have to look for that book too.

I don't know that book :) I have a dutch story book that I loved so much that it kinda fell apart. For years I've been trying to find a replacement, but I haven't found any. It was only printed once and it was the writers only book.
Don't you have a library or local bookshop where you could do a story hour? I know those are pretty popular in the US :)
Cheers Eva

Just tell them you are the "sky lady" and I am sure they won't mind :)

I read that book one year with the first graders I tutor in reading during the school year. They got a kick out of it. Wish I could remember what we did for the associated art activity. If you have the time, reading to students is very rewarding.

I LOVE that book! My favorite picture book is Good Dog, Carl. It's ridiculous. And I don't have urchins to read them to.

Reading to random children? The kids would love it - others might think you loopy, but I won't - that's a fun book!
And I participated in the Saturday sky, but I must say if you have had rain lately, I would very much appreciate it if you sent some our way.

No random child-reading. Trust me on this one.

Would you think less of me if I told you that I occasionally buy picture books just for myself? No excuse of buying for kids--just because I love them?
And yes, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is wonderful. Did you know there's a sequel? (Pickles to Pittsburgh). It's not as good, though....

After you are done reading to Jo's child, swing by my house. My kids love that book!

That's a beautious sky, even without the meatballs.

Ah, for a lovely Jell-o mold, setting in the west. Now *there's* a sky picture...

I love that book! I used to use it in storytime at the library all the time and then I read it to Hannah. It's funny and clever and just a great kid's picture book!

NO, it would NOT be bad! It would be wonderful. That looks like an adorable book that we somehow missed. I must see it.
Baked brown rice is the best! So easy to make. Dinner sounds yummy. Mine was good, too.
Hot & steamy, yes. And I don't just mean YOU. I mean the weather.

You can come read to my child anytime.

O.K. I "give" what is the baked brown rice everyone is bragging about?
