07.22.2006 :: Today's Saturday Sky is brought to you by FOG
Foggy, murky, humid day here in coastal Massachusetts. But it matters not one bit. I am now officially on vacation for 2 weeks. And while we would all rather have the perfect vacation weather, frankly it matters not one little bit! Not even a smidge. No work. Happy Me.
Do you know that we have over 120 people in the Saturday Sky ring? We also have a boat load of spammers applying. Unfortunately the ring doesn't replace the assigned number when I delete someone. I've had over 30 spammers. DAMN YOU, SPAMMERS! To what end would they apply there? No one sees it but me. Not too bright these spam people.
To join in, you can check the Saturday Sky blog (not an active blog, just there to keep the ring info handy)
~~
Good news on the car. The insurance company totalled it. We do not know the amount yet but Andy the pessimist believes it will only be a couple hundred dollars. (the car was a 1994), I, ever the optimist am holding out hope for a thousand.
~~~
You know, showing the pictures of the lobster party of last weekend, I realized that I have LOTS of long lost relatives all over the world. All ones that knit, oddly enough. My family seems to be growing by the minute!
:)
~~
Knitting. Oh yeah. I knit, right? I have actually knit in the last 24 hours. I hope you were sitting down for that. I had not knit in so long I wondered if I remembered how. I did. Truth is that my arm/elbow has been bothering me a lot the last couple of weeks and I had to give it some R & R. Damned elbow. Betraying me like that. It's not all better yet but it's on it's way. I have lost knitting stamina.
The thing that I learned during last night's knit session is that the trekking socks have to go. I don't like them. It's not you, Pattern, It's me!
The pattern is Aran braid socks . It's a wonderful pattern, just not for this yarn. I am ripping it out today. I have fought that feeling that it is all wrong since I started it. If you are going to put work into a braid, I feel that I must see it and enjoy it. It definitely gets lost in this yarn. This yarn and this pattern are NOT like peanut butter and jelly.
Rip.
Today I rip.
But it's okay. Did I tell you that I'm on vacation? I have plenty of time to rip.
:)
Have a wonderful vacation! Maybe I will actually remember to take a Saturday sky picture next weekend...
That is a gorgeous image with the fog and buildings!
I love fog. There's something so mysterious about it. Even when you know every inch of the area, it makes it appear as though you could discover something different any second.
I don't mind ripping stuff either. Either it works for me or it's gone.
Knitter's elbow. You, too? I thought I was the only one.
Isn't it sad when a nice knitter gets all bitter and cranky like our Norma? Maybe if she could find that thing up the hill she would be able to feel happiness for other people. Enjoy your vacation, Sandy.
Hey, good news about the car.
Love the foggy foto. Your bright sunny disposition cuts right through that fog, girlfriend.
xoxoxo
I'm finishing up a similarly disappointing pair of Trekking socks. Lesson learned--after this, no more patterned Trekking socks for me! I'm sticking to plain old stockinette. Besides, they go much faster that way. ;-)
Enjoy your vacation! I hope you feel recharged and refreshed at the end of it.
Oh how wonderful 2 weeks of vacation!Enjoy.
It was pretty murky here in western New York, too. Picture's up on my blog.
Definitely time to rip and just enjoy the yarn in a plain sock.
Happy vacationing!
Stockinette or ribbing for that yarn. Have a great vacation!
Fog, wow. Sorry about your socks, I'm in the same predicament now. Love the yarn, can't decide on the right pattern. Sigh. Have a great vacation.
Enjoy your vacation!
Your picture looks like the opening scene of a horror movie. Creepy but cool. Have a great vacay!
Lovely fog pic. Our fog has turned right into humidity. Argh. My mantra is "Almost labor day almost labor day almost labor day...
Is that the SAME color 100? I've gotten nowhere after casting on three times. Unlike Carole, three times was NOT a charm for me...(Can I bribe you to make a pair for me?)
I love the foggy pic (note to self, must post Saturday Sky pics).
Happy Vacation - me too! (Except that mine is 5 weeks, but with a 4 year-old and a 2 year-old to entertain - not sure who wins on that one...)
I love the foggy picture....great shot. I agree about your comment on the braid. It is quite a bit of work for the braid not to stand out.
I have sun and cloud sky photos today. Just can't post until I get off work. Sorry about your sock> been there< done that
Love the fog, always beautiful! Posted my Saturday Sky and tried to joing the ring but it says it's not currently accepting new members. It's fun to post a Sky though :)
Too bad the yarn and pattern aren't working and you have to rip. I really love the colors.
The sky pic is gorgeous, even if there is no sun, it's still gorgeous. Have an awesome vacation - rest, knit, enjoy!
Beautiful shot .. I miss the look of New England sometimes. *sighs*
Damn! Two weeks!? Lucky grrl. Unlike Norma I will not drop you like a hot potato because you have vacation. But you better think of me out here sweltering in 104 temps and wishing I could enjoy a little of your foggy day. Mwwaaahhh!
The fog is gorgeous. Oh, happy vacation to you!!!
Are you going to start a different sock with that yarn, or the braided sock with a new yarn?
You could be surprised with what the insurance company comes up with -- I was relatively blown away by what they gave me for my crap '89 Ford Escort in 2000. I don't remember the actual number, but it was a fair bit more than I was expecting (which was enough to maybe buy a new tire or two).
HAPPY HAPPY VACATION!!
Have a great vacation time!!
Posted by: Chris on 07.22.2006 AT 09:29 AM
I have one more week before I go on vacation for 2 weeks, too. Yippee! I'll be spending the first week at home but for the second week we are renting a house on the Cape. Yippee again!
I re-started my Trekking socks for the 3rd time last night. I sure hope the 3rd time's the charm in this case because I am sick of this yarn. Sick of it, I tell ya.
Have fun on vaca. Are you doing anything special? Other than ripping, that is?
Posted by: Carole on 07.22.2006 AT 09:17 AM
Although I am still bitter that YOUR vacation is starting, and it's twice as long as mine WAS, which is NOW ENDING, I will still pretend to be your friend long enough to comment. I told you it was not going to be pretty. Public flaying and then DROP you. Like a hot potato. All over a vacation. Is it WORTH it, Sandy? is it WORTH IT????
Mwahahahahaha! (readers, stop it right now. Sandy and I are kidders -- get it? KIDDERS!)
So. The sock has to go. I agree with your decision. Trekking, in my opinion, needs to be on a simple sock. Sad, but true. The yarn gets to be the showcase. Save your fancy patterns for a plain yarn.
And I can attest that vacations are good for the knitting. I didn't do a phenomenal amount, but I certainly did a lot more than I've done in a while. And I'm very happy about that.
Thank you, thank you for the fog picture. With the temps we've been having in Oklahoma (111 last week), anything that resembles moisture in the air looks exceptionally lovely.
