07.27.2006 :: Checklist

My to do list has not gotten much smaller during this vacation.
~vacuum floors: not done
~sweep kitchen: not done
~corral dust hippos under beds: nope. not done (some of you may have dust bunnies, I have dust hippos. Much, much bigger)
~mail packages that are overdue to go out: nope
~balance checkbook: hahaha, good one: nope
~dorm shopping: DONE
~cook healthy meals: done, although in the extreme heat of today, it will be pizza tonight. I cannot stand to stand over anything hot today
~laundry: I started to make headway on the mountain 'o laundry. I have things at the bottom of the hamper that have not been seen in months. I just keep washing all of the frequently worn items.
~buy Mom's birthday gift. This one is DONE. Amazingly, it is even early. I know. I should take a little lie down, perhaps it's heat exhaustion
~pull weeds: haha, another good one. It's on my plan though. You never know, I may get to them. Maybe. Perhaps.
~Don't kill mother in laws plant: this is an important one. I am plantsitting for the week and it is imperative that this plant makes it out alive. It is used to full on blazing sun all day long. There is no sun like that in my yard (thank the good lord for that one) so keeping Mr. Sun worshiper alive may be challenging. I have stood over it, wringing my hands a couple of times already today.
~Sleep late: this one is done. I'm turning into a lazy bones. I slept until almost 9 am today! Unheard of!
The day is young, though, perhaps more of the list can be crossed off. Or, perhaps I'll sit on the porch and knit a bit. There's always later!

I have dust Noah's Arch!! Those plants would not make it a minute at my house-good you're in charge. Whoa, 9!!! I dream of those days. I know I'm late but enjoy!

O.K. Here's my theory. If you let your house stay in a "messed up" state you are REALLY doing a great thing!! Point in case: I always say if a burgler is going to break in my house he will peak in the window, see the mess and think someone beat him to it and move on!! I come home the other day around 10:30 in the morning to find a Blazer backed to my basement....a man in the front yard and one in the back walking back toward their car...said they were checking to see if I needed any trees cut down...I found out yesterday that a neighbor down the road from me was robbed!! SO....I'm thinking that these guys peaked in my windows, saw the mess and thought they were too late...and were heading back to their car to go somewhere else!! That's my theory and I'm sticking to it!!

LOL - I read "don't kill the *mother in law*, not noting that all important PLANT part.

Sleeping in is all you really need to be doing. And if you're cooking healthy meals on top of it, well, you're ahead of most folks during the heat of summer!

I think you've earned a rest. You shouldn't over do it while on vacation.

Posted by: Cookie on 07.28.2006 AT 01:46 PM

Maybe you should get a gro-light for the MIL plant to supplement the lack of sun in the yard (tho right now, shade sounds great!!). Our dust dinos are all hairy since our two dogs have decided to "help" out by shedding copious amounts of hair and downy fluff. Luckily I have a 5yo with a Swiffer who wants $$ to pay for a few trips up the rock wall at the sports center during her older brother and sister's hockey game this weekend. Child labor- it's a good thing. :)

I noticed you got all the shopping done. Good luck with mil plant!

But have you forgotten?? You are on V.A.C.A.T.I.O.N.!!! I know, I know, it is hard NOT to think about all that needs to be done....but I say get comfy, pull out your knitting and put your list to the side...after all it is good to sit and do nothing then rest!! LOL!!
Vacation time is fleeting....work will always be there so take advantage of your down time....besides....it will soon be fall, the weeds will die on their own, the dirt on the floors will eventually get tracked BACK outside, dust hippos will soon get too crowded under the bed and you can pull it out, spin it and knit a lovely coverlet....yea.....definitely need to sit a spell and knit today!!! LOL!!

Your description of Laundry Mountain makes me think of Trash Jenga.

I think your list is a great one for being on vacation. Hey, it never hurts to have a list things you can do in case you get bored, right? ;)

Posted by: Kim on 07.27.2006 AT 09:43 PM

the idea of a dust hippo...the image of it...made me laugh out loud. :)

(hello from a bloglines lurker. :D)

I hope you sleep even later tomorrow. It's vacation!!

Posted by: Kathy on 07.27.2006 AT 08:07 PM

Since this is your vacation, shouldn't sitting on the porch and knitting be #1? ;-)

Posted by: Helen on 07.27.2006 AT 06:58 PM

I can think of ONE hot thing you wouldn't mind standing over. Or behind. Or in front of. But, we'll save that for the Saturday Sky post. Bwahahahahahahaha. (Snicker. Snicker. Snort. Snort. And all that.)
Glad you are having a nice vacation. Not as productive as the list, but that's a vacation. Enjoy!

There is always tomorrow. And there is nothing better than after a good night's sleep to rest the whole day!!

Posted by: Lene on 07.27.2006 AT 04:58 PM

Never clean today what can be put off and cleaned tomorrow. Or something like that :)

Posted by: Vicki on 07.27.2006 AT 04:03 PM

P.S. Of course, the whole reason I PULLED weeds is to avoid doing what should have been higher on the list of priorities -- kill the dust hippos. Eh, whatever.

Posted by: Norma on 07.27.2006 AT 03:47 PM

Dust hippos. Hahahahahaha. Yeah. Me too. Why am I laughing? :D

I pulled weeds. So there. And I'm not even on vacation. Nyah-nyah.

Posted by: Norma on 07.27.2006 AT 03:46 PM

You want to see some impressive weeds, come to MY house. Ugh.

But it sounds like you're vacationing properly, anyway. ;-)

Posted by: Beth S. on 07.27.2006 AT 03:45 PM

Ah yes, Scarlet...why do today what can be put of 'til tomorrow. Go knit!

Posted by: margene on 07.27.2006 AT 03:43 PM

i'm not much of a knitter. But I sure do enjoy your blog... dust hippos LOL!! that's fabulous.. sounds like you are enjoying your vacation .
