08.10.2006 :: August-ness
Before my vacation, I thought that I had lost my will to knit. It depressed me but I had no desire to knit a stitch. Then vacation happened. And I knit. Everyday. Lots. Proving to me that knitting was still a part of me.
THEN. I went back to work. I feel overwhelmed and rushed all the time. I hardly knit again. I don't have the energy once dinner is over, dishes are done, laundry is rolling, my nightly walk. I have no energy left.
It's not knitting. It's working. It's for the birds.
Tonight I sat outside for a couple of minutes enjoying the August-ness of the evening. "August-ness"? It is when the sun sets noticeably earlier all of a sudden, when the crickets are singing a song so sweet that you can't help but stop to listen, when the birds lazily swoop in the twilight, the air is cool and sweet smelling. The sky? Sometimes it stuns.
After the humidity of July, the August sky colors are a bit brighter, bolder. Clearer.
Be safe, air travelers!
The reflection in the window of my new car! Shiny!

Yes, the blue sky in September and October is almost here, and it makes my toes curl in a happy way just thinking about it.
Those skies are by far the best skies in New England (my humble opinion.)
Anyway, I hear you on the work thing, but sometimes I'm surprised at how much I don't feel like picking up my knitting, but when I do and get going, how much more relaxed and happy it makes me. Like work isn't the only thing I've got going. I refuse to let it take over my life! (Work that is.)

We'll help you get that mojo back! Come to the Boston KOAC and visit me at the Bloggers Table. Maybe we can bring in photos of our Saturday Sky posts?!

Beautiful, beautiful skies above Beverly.
I think we should all quit work and form a Wool Commune. xoxoxo

I noticed the same thing about my sky. Blue, crisp, gorgeous.

Work is for the birds. I could live without it, too. ; )
Love the sky reflection in the shiny new car window!

I like my job but I need to go on vacation (next week!) so I can sit and knit. It's true -- once you get home, get dinner ready, clean up, etc, etc..., it's hard to find time for knitting.
The morning skies in Boston are now a deeper blue since the weather is cooler. I love that.

Work-yuk. Knitting is for me relaxing and therapeutic-so is sky watching. As long as it keeps you smiling keep doing it.

I feel the same way in the evenings. You can do what I do. I shedule about 20 minutes to knit in the morning while I have my coffee (or your beverage of choice). It feels better going to work after I've knit a little while. I have kids, husband, a job, the works but I still schedule it in. It makes me less cranky.

It's coming, that's for sure. It's still hot and humid here in Tucson, but the light is just a little thinner and the mornings just a little later.
Oh yeah, and I have my annual End Of Summer Head Cold.

don't let the work suck the joy of knitting from you... sit down with the needles in your lap. if you knit, great, if you don't just pet what you have done. At least, it will make you feel better...

Do NOT worry about having lost your knitting MoJo.....1) You are still in your DC withdrawal phase you need to allow your body to "refocus". 2)It is August....even if you don't live here in the sweltering, humid, HOT, humid...did I mention Humid, hot South??? It is STILL August and it just the end of summer funk....I think the end of summer funk allows you to rest so when fall hits you can have all this wonderful stored energy to knit all the MANY fall/winter projects you are suddenly inspired to do!!

Sandy, I am pitifully unable to post buttons on my blog properly, and I always scramble through my Saturdays (that &%$*^#%$@!* work stuff mentioned by the above clever folk afflicts me, as well), and Blogger is giving me migraines, but I managed to get a couple of photos up for you.
Happy Arizona August sky!

It is 60 degrees here right now -- COLD, even. Yum. Love the cold.
Work? pfffffffffft.

I had the same sky this evening- complete with pinky puffy clouds. I loved your description of August-ness. I call it the "go back to school smell" in the air. Full of anticipation, yet sadness that summer is coming to a close. I took an hour long walk this evening to soak up all of that. Peaceful. Bliss.

work sucks.
i noticed too the change in the air and the sky this past week. how the sky is just a little bluer. the air, cleaner. as if fall is just around the corner. which i guess it is.

Really, I totally understand. What is this work crap all about, anyway? It gets in the way of everything. I would much rather be one of those idle rich. (Of course, I wouldn't be idle for long.)
Beautiful evening down here, too.

Sometimes that work stuff seriously gets in the way of having fun. Hope you find some extra knitting energy soon.
