10.05.2006 :: A fair evening

I'm running around to catch my tail. The tail is winning. I can't keep up this week.
I am grateful to each and every one of you who sent along good wishes for Bethany's heart break, for sharing your stories and helping one teenage girl to realize that she is not alone. I am grateful to you. For her and my sake. I wish that I had the time to email you all back with profuse thanks. Forgive me if I don't.
Time heals. It's cliche. But true. She is feeling better and looking at college life through new eyes. All of it is not bad.
Life gets in my way. Or more specifically, in the way of blogging. Despite my best plans for the afternoon, I got caught up in a necessary job. Instead of the blogging. I realized the refrigerator was stuffed full and not much of it was recent food. It had to be cleaned out. Way in the back, I'm embarassed to say that I found rice that had turned pink. Pink is not a good color for rice. Fried rice did not happen. I'm not proud, but you can better understand why I was distracted.
Remember that. Pink Rice = Bad.
Always. Always.

Andy and I went to the Topsfield Fair last night. It was a beautiful, mild evening, just right for walking around the exhibits.
Chubby Checker was singing in concert.

I thought I heard him singing Blueberry Hill, but I think that Fats Domino sang that. I could be confused.

My favorite site of the whole night! One pooped pup!

Give him a recliner chair and he is alot like Andy in the evening. Head bobbing to stay awake!
Leaving the fair to get home in time to watch LOST:

Priceless!

Fats Domino hit the charts in the '50's with Blueberry Hill and Chubby Checker redid it later on although I can't remember when. It was a number one hit for Glenn Miller in the '40's too. I like me some good Swing music, can you tell?

So glad that Bethany is feeling a little better about her loss and is looking to the future. You've raised a very grounded and clever girl.

Great pictures of the fair and the animals. The dog is my favourite one. So cute and so obviously tired.

I recognize some of those spinners. A few are from the Island Pond Spinning group that meets in NH - some of the niceset fiber folks I've ever met.

I had no idea that Chubby Checker was still alive!!

thanks for the tour of the topsfield fair!! I grew up in Lynn, Mass and went to the fair every year with my family! It's such a good one! My mom lives in newburyport and i taught in rowley for a few years (back in the day)!! it was always an excellent field trip for the kids.

Great pictures! Thanks for the preview, and LOOK at all those spinners. I don't recognize a soul, which is a really good thing for us.

I was thinking about Bethany this week, unable to offer much solace that didn't sounds unbearably cynical. However, the takehome final thoughts were that it was a REALLY good thing I didn't marry anyone I seriously cared about during those years. I would have been a divorce'. My guy came along later, and was perfect. Those other guys? Even in more objective retrospect? No.

That brings me back.....we always went to the Topsfiels Fair as a kid. Thanks for sharing the pics. I loved the pooped pup one :)

What great photos of the fair! I loved the sign about how to pet an alpaca, although the ferris wheel is the best.

I felt like I was there at the fair! Looks like fine. Hang in there, Bethany!

Hey, one of those spinners is me!! Just the back of my head on the very right hand side of the frame. I wish I'd seen you! I think I was having a little panic attack at that point though, crumbling under the pressure of the competition.

What a fun day and great pics!

Wonderful pictures! Thanks for sharing! I'll remember about the rice and the alpacas...

I'm glad to hear she's doing better. I can only imagine how you're feeling. I have a few years yet before I go through it too. Big hugs!
Oh and now that I'm back at work, I don't want to think about what's growing and where. Time or lack of it doesn't allow me to look for it. Nor do I want to. :)

PINK rice? I didn't even know that was possible! (Not that I don't get intriguing flora in the fridge too--just never pink!)

The fair sounds like such fun! I've never been, but any event where so many spinners congregate has to be a hoot.

That looks like fun! Poor puggy! Just dog tired. I think it's a great idea to print instructions on how to pet animals! ;)

I love fair season here in New england - it is the grand opening for fall!

I do! I do know some of those spinners! Hope Bethany is turning the corner, the poor kid.

Looks like you had fun at Topsfield. Yup, I see Erin, Cheryl and Kathy on the far right. I also remember the woman with the purple shirt in the front from the Alpaca Spin-in in September. Like Norma, I am glad too to be tagging along with you at Rhinebeck- can't wait!

It looks like a fun time at the fair. The pup definitely looks like he had a hard day at the fair.

First, so glad to read Bethany is feeling a bit better.

Second, I do know those spinners - I was one of them (right side of frame towards the back, brown shirt, shortish used-to-be-blonde-now-mousy brown hair) The head just to my right almost out of frame with the gorgeous hair up in a bun is Cheryl of SeedStitch fame. Striped blue and white tank top in front right is Alpaca Kathy -others are rest of Newburyport spin group, and left side of the group are another group, whom I cannot remember names for because I suck ;-)

Wish you had come to say hello!

I LOVE your photo of the pooped pooch. It's such a cute photo.

I'm so glad I'll be tagging along with you in Rhinebeck. You always have the most unique perspective. Who else would have thought to photograph that sign about how to touch an alpaca? I probably wouldn't have even seen it!
