11.14.2006 :: Half hearted sock and lovely Redness
The other day, Stasia so kindly asked me how the Tongue River Farm Socks were coming along. Well, they'd be coming alot faster if I'd actually knit on them!
I love them. I chose to do the Peaks and Valleys pattern. I love this sock so far.
With this photo, it is clear that the season of crappy photographs has now begun. Darkness means craptastic photography! For me, anyway! Lucky you! So, take it from me, this sock is much better looking than this picture would have you believe!
~~~
Have you thought about making a red scarf yet? The least that I can do is give back to the world and share a red scarf with an orphan, don't you agree?
Red Scarf to Be!
When I thought about a student at college, recently emancipated out of foster care, I thought about how lucky my 2 college kids are. Sure, sure, they do not KNOW how lucky they are, that will take a while. I can't imagine how lonely and scary college life must be without a Mom to share things with. Or a Dad. Or both. How can I NOT knit a red scarf? And how can I NOT knit a scarf with some cashmere in it? Knitpicks, baby! Affordable, wonderful,luxiouious red yarn that any orphan (or person for that matter) would love to wear! Now, for deciding the pattern. That is the best part, isn't it? The dreaming? That may be a couple of balls of yarn to an innocent bystander. But we all know that it's a world of possibilities!
Hi Sandy, I just came over from the warm hands blog which is fantastic. Sign me up please. I'm knitting Fleece Artist soft mitts right now, and want to be in with the group. Your lace scarf is wonderful.
My red scarf is about half done! It's too late this year, but I'm thinking about getting a group together next year to do charity knitting all year long and scarves are great for the beginners. I got my Kitchen Aid several years ago with a gift certificate my son gave me. I wanted it for retirement when I am going to bake like crazy!! I really do love it - definitely a luxury.
Sandy, I'm a dope! I can't remember how to get into the new Warm Hands spot to post anything.
I hang my head in shame (studying a mistake in my knitting to boot!) and await your instructions.
Those are gonna be some georgous socks! I have to go investigate that pattern now, grin.
And you are gonna LOVE your new mixer. My sister bought one for me for xmas years and years ago, used. But its still running and I love it so much. we use it for almost everything that can be mixed. The dough hook is great for mixing meatloaf too if you ever make that. I wish I had one of the splash guards to cover the edges of the bowls however that I've seen on some mixers. Trust me you'll never want to put this gadget away!
I've had some Nashua Handknits alpaca blend in my stash just waiting for a good cause, and since I went to college from a semi-foster situation (long story) what better cause?
I was wondering when you'd dig into that sock kit. :-) I like every single sock in the booklet... how you managed to choose is beyond me!
Lucia's got a great new scarf pattern. Just sayin'. ;-)
What a nice post about The Red Scarf Project. Actually your pics look good! I ALWAYS take crappy pics so it's a way of life for me. I do try though. Your sock is really pretty too, I love multi color work.
It is hard to think about children... even young adult children not having a parent around to guide them and support them. I know my children are so fortunate and I hope one day they know how much.
Good for you to do something sweet like this!!
Good deeds make you really feel awesome.
What beautiful read Panache. And, the KP catalog just came. Is it a plot?
At least, you're not having issues with your socks. /sigh
Love that yarn! Think it would like cables?
On a scale of 0-10, with ten being really soft (cashmere), how soft is the Tongue River Farm sock when knitted up? I love your work.
