11.22.2006 :: It's time to vote! Do your patriotic duty!
2:48 am, sleeping blissfully in my bed, I was awoken from a noise. A huge noise. It was the kind of noise that wakes you up and rings in your ears but you can't figure out what it was. I lay there for a couple of minutes, seeing if I could hear another noise. Then I whispered to Andy "what was that?" If he heard it, it must have been loud.
I lay there for a couple of hours, trying to figure out what it was. It was a noise that worried me.
When I awoke this morning, I put on the news and it was an explosion about 6 miles from my home.
Read about it here.
Those poor people, forced out of their homes. Thanksgiving preparations stopped in their tracks. But no one died. Thank goodness for that.
And on the lighter side, please reflect with me, To Fringe or Not to Fringe:
Please do your duty to vote!
Added later:
I should have told you that I ran out of darker yarn and that is why I am undecided about the fringe. I want the darker but, frankly, am too cheap to buy a skein just for fringe. This lighter yarn, in fact is a different yarn altogether from the scarf yarn. I have NONE left.
AND. Keep in mind this is for a college student.
AND. I did not trim them up yet, of course I would do that before gifting it.
There. Now vote.
~~
Let's be thankful that our homes are intact today.

I would like the fringe if it was in one of the pinks, but I don't care for the white fringe.

Chick! Love it both ways, (freakin' lot of help I am) and would love to know the pattern, if there is one, and the yarn used. Very nice indeed:)

Honestly, fringe the scarf. Most of the younger generation adores details like that.

Fringe, yes.
Blessings come in strange forms sometimes....
Posted by: Laurie on 11.22.2006 AT 09:44 PM
The scarf is going to stretch anyway. Why not just frog back a bit and use the colour you like for the fringe? But yes, even though not a big fan of fringe myself, I prefer the way the fringed end looks.

FRINGE, FRINGE! I'm stunned that the vote is so close -- you might say turkey neck and turkey neck!
I am not giving thanks right at this particular moment for GMAIL.

I saw that on the news this morning.. I head they felt it over at the beach.. amazing!!!
glad no one got hurt!
Posted by: Beth on 11.22.2006 AT 04:52 PM
I heard about that on the news this morning on the way to work. Scary! I'm glad you are ok.
I like it better without the fringe.
Happy Thanksgiving!

We didn't feel it out near your brother but you were one of the first persons I thought of when I saw it on the news, knowing you were close to it. It's amazing that no one was seriously injured. Timing had to be everything in those regards.
Happy Thanksgiving Sandy!

Delurking for NO fringe, zip, zilch, nada. It will be messy/yuchy/soaked in beer from a college party within a minute and a half, and it detracts from your lovely cables.
Posted by: bonny on 11.22.2006 AT 03:30 PM
I totally did not hear it at my place. AND, I haven't watched the news today, so you are my "breaking news station".
;-)
Posted by: claudia on 11.22.2006 AT 03:21 PM
Thank goodness no one was hurt. My parents weren't home-I bet they would have felt it if they had been.
No fringe. But then again, fringe is good. I'm no help, am I? I did vote though. For just one. No fringe. :)
Posted by: Kimberly on 11.22.2006 AT 02:43 PM
I am amazed at how close the votes are..........WOW!!
Will be praying for those families.....very sad.
Happy Thanksgiving, we have much to be thankful for!
Posted by: Dawn on 11.22.2006 AT 02:09 PM
I woke up to that news too -- so scary, but thank goodness that no one was hurt. I like the fringe. Happy Thanksgiving!

You must live very close to my sister and brother! My sister lives about 1.5 miles from there, my brother about 3 miles. She said the explosion was so loud and shook her house so violently that her dog fell off the bed! He was sleeping close to the edge and literally fell off. So scary....Glad to hear you're ok (my family is fine too, just a little shaken). P.S. love the fringe
Posted by: Michelle on 11.22.2006 AT 01:13 PM
I say no fringe. But if fringe you must, I would use a darker yarn and make thicker fringe, spaced a bit further apart.
I wondered how close you were to that explosion. I'm so grateful that no one was hurt. Buildings can be repaired, things can be replaced.

I agree with Cookie - fringe is totally evil! If you absolutely MUST have a trim, I have a few crochet trims I could share with you... :D
Glad to hear your home is not damaged - lots of vibes and well-wishes to everyone in your community.

Fringe is evil! Down with fringe!
/falls over

Buy another skein and fringe it as you had wanted originally. You can use the leftovers for something ie. another nearly red scarf for the Red Scarf project.
Glad you're okay and there was no loss of life. That's why Dunkin' Donuts has NO doughnuts today- they had a processing plant there.

I thought of you when I saw the news this morning. I'm so glad no one was hurt although I know a lot of people were really frightened.
I like the fringe - go for it!
Posted by: Carole on 11.22.2006 AT 11:18 AM
Hey! I voted for fringe, but with on condition: Get a straight edge and a rotary cutter and make sure that fringe has a nice sharp edge to it. Have you quilted, so you have a rotary cutter? Certainly someone you know has one. If not, they aren't that expensive and you know, you will use it every time you put fringe on something.
So-I don't put the news on and look what I missed. I was not awakened that I know of, but I am off in a different direction. I'll have to put the noon news on now.
Posted by: Teresa C on 11.22.2006 AT 11:06 AM
De-lurking to say: I voted for fringe, but I'll suggest here that it be shorter fringe.

Glad to hear you are ok, and didn't have any problems with the mushroom cloud of noxiousness. What a mess it is up there. It's been on the local channels all morning.
Fringe. For sure. It really helps to finish it off. Like someone else suggested, darker color is better.

I heard about that explosion this morning. How frightening!
Fringe is evil. Does that give you a hit at how I voted.
Posted by: susan on 11.22.2006 AT 10:43 AM
Hmmm... if you fringe, I think you should fringe in a darker yarn to anchor it. Just my thoughts.
Have a fabulous thanksgiving!

Wow.. that was a rude awakening! Thankful that they are all ok! hopefully they will all have an easier time getting things fixed and rebuilt than the people on the gulf coast!

Lovely scarf, either way. :)

Sandy! Your explosion made it to the Canadian news this morning! I was watching Canada AM and they talked about how people thought it was an earthquake. I'm so glad you're ok.
Posted by: Steph VW on 11.22.2006 AT 10:18 AM
That woke me up here in Middleton too - I thought our furnace had blown up or something. Husband slept through it and I woke him up to go look.
Your scarf looks wonderful - I voted yes for fringe.
Posted by: PumpkinMama on 11.22.2006 AT 10:16 AM
It is amazing that no one was hurt badly or killed.
I like the scarf with fringe.
Posted by: Karen on 11.22.2006 AT 10:11 AM
I'm really not a fringe person but it definitely makes this scarf look much more finished. Happy Thanksgiving.
Posted by: hillary on 11.22.2006 AT 09:48 AM
I'm not usually a fringe person either, but I like it on that scarf (great scarf, by the way, fringe or no fringe).
Posted by: Leanne on 11.22.2006 AT 09:38 AM
definitely a miracle that no one was seriously hurt.
i'm not a fringe kind of girl normally. but i like the look of fringe there.
Posted by: maryse on 11.22.2006 AT 09:26 AM
We felt it here in Newton! My mom said it woke her up in Melrose!
Fringe baby...

I clicked, I voted, I saw that the score was 100% for fringe -- I thought, WOW, everyone really likes the fringe. I didn't check to see, but "everyone," at this point, might be just "Jo in Boston" and me. ; )
Have a great Thanksgiving, Sandy.
Posted by: Vicki on 11.22.2006 AT 09:14 AM
I also vote for the fringe. Without it there is just something missing.
Posted by: Angelika on 11.22.2006 AT 09:12 AM
I felt that explosion all the way down here in Boston. I got up to see what the cats were up to.
I'm just grateful that no one died or was even seriously injured.
Definitely fringe.
Have a lovely holiday!

Sandy, I love that scarf! I just finished a IHS with Malabrigo in "jewel blue" and left it unfringed (as is my preference). Yours looks fabulous in the pinks, etc. My vote was for 1) unfringed; or 2) fringed with the darker pink.
