11.26.2006 :: Red Scarf~ or Knitting Unto Others
I have taken this Thanksgiving weekend to Knit Unto Others.

My blessing abound and what better way to reflect upon them than making a Red Scarf for the Red Scarf Project!

What a joy to knit too! Made with Knitpicks, Panache yarn, Cashmere, baby! And the pattern? A wonderful creation of Li. Go ahead over and ask her for a copy of the pattern. She shares if you ask nicely. And tell her I sent you. (Again, this will not GET you anything special, I'm just saying). You will love knitting this simple yet satisfying pattern. And you can see the wonderful results for yourself! It's called the Diagonal Stitch Rib Scarf. Also known as the Herringbone Rib.
The back is interesting too.
UPDATE:
Nearly 100 homes were damaged in the Wednesday morning explosion. 25 homes are unrepairable. The devastation can be seen in the photo on this page. It turns out that one of Andy's Softball friends lived right next door to the explosion. He is bruised and banged up, more like stitched up but he if fine. It is a true miracle that no one was killed.
UPDATE:
Honestly, you grrls and guys are no help with the fringe v. no fringe debate. :) Did you see the results? Neck in neck. Fringe in fringe. A closer poll there could not be. My decision? I will order some more of the darker pink yarn and fringe it with that. And if she does not want fringe, she will be instructed to take it off. Easy peasy.
~~~
It's back to work tomorrow. But first, a laundry mini marathon and rides back to colleges! Happy Sunday.
I was internet-less at the time, but I like the fringe on the striped scarf.
And that diagonal rib pattern is genius! :-)
Hi - I'm delurking to admire your wonderful scarf. I knit one sock in a similar pattern, and seeing your scarf inspired me to cast on for the second.
I'm curious as to what needle size and what gauge are you getting with the knitpicks Panache yarn? I've heard that it is really worsted weight rather than bulky weight. Would you share your thoughts? Thanks!
I like the scarf. It looks very warm. Good choice on the fringe. It's not all that hard to take off if she doesn't like it.
I was wondering if you'd be interested in helping out with a new site I'm trying to get up and running- Craftacular.com
It is a wiki, which means that anyone can edit any page that hasn't been locked. I'm hoping that it will become a great repository of the collected wisdom of all the crafters online. Tutorials, patterns, solutions to common problems, etc. Anything you can add would be really appreciated. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
What a beautiful scarf and the reason you made it makes it more so.
I picked up yarn for my red scarf yesterday when I went out. I was thinking a nice easy mistake rib, but that diagonal rib is awfully nice.
Oooh - that's nice in a solid color! You're putting ideas in my head... :)
Fringe! Fringe! Fringe!! :)
The red scarf is lovely--the yarn looks so lush and soft.
Thank goodness you all are safe. xoxo
I finished one red scarf yesterday. I've got yarn for another one but I'm knitting a hat now for Christmas at Sea.
Enjoy your Sunday!
The scarf is absolutely beautiful, Sandy.
P.S. No fringe. ;)
That diagonal rib is DELICIOUS! I must try it. I've got some of the same yarn. It was white, not red, so....you know what I did....I dyed it red! I also have some in olive, just in case *I* need another scarf. I think I need to grow a few more necks, since my love of scarves knows no bounds....
