01.17.2007 :: a baby, some soup and giving thanks
Baby knitting. With Debbie Bliss baby cashmerino. Is there anything more satisfying? I think not. A girl baby, as you can perhaps figure out. It's been a while since a friend was having a girl baby. I'm excited! I did not get to knit for my children so I have to knit for others. And you know, if I could actually turn back time I would not change that fact of my past. I'm not sure what I would choose, but it would have to be worthy of turning back time. You know?
Soup's on! There is only one thing I like more than eating soup and that is making it!
Mirepoix for Turkey Barley soup. Carrots, celery including the leaves and onion. We need hot soup around here too as the temperature has dipped. 13F degrees right now. I know that is not as cold as some places. Certainly not the coldest we've had but it is the coldest this year. Our mild winter did not prepare us for the skin stinging cold that greeted me this morning. I'm not complaining, really. What I AM doing is making soup. I could eat soup every single day. Did you know that about me? Perhaps not. It's true. Now you know.
I am having a blast with Maryse's Picture a Day. I hope you'll consider joining in. But you'll forgive me if some of the pictures migrate here as well. (mirepoix, for example)
And finally a big huge THANK YOU to Kim for helping me with some blog stuff. HTML is worse than Greek to me. WORSE. She magically put in categories for the blog and fixed some bugs that I had found. Thanks, Girl! You're the BEST!

Baby knitting is something I need to try. I love the stripes you have there in your baby knitting.

A friend is having her first - a girl - in March, and I've been working on a simple dress with picot edging in pink baby cashmerino. It really is a pleasure to knit with this yarn. I bought enough of it so I can make a blanket and cap to match. Yum!

I'm loving the picture a day thing too! Yours are great. Mine have a way of migrating over to my blog too, can't be helped it seems.

17F in Boston right now. I brought my fingerless gloves to help combat the draft from the office windows. They're not helping all that much, though.

I have taken classes in both Ancient Greek and HTML... and let me tell you. Greek ain't so bad at all.
I could eat soup every day too. Just not the same soup. Unfortunately I am not very good at cooking for two, so we usually end up eating leftovers for a week.

I love soup, too. Just another thing about me, in case you wanted to know.

Oh, I'm feeling terribly soup-deprived. You taught me a new word tonight. But since it is not a molecular biology or chemistry word, I will try to forget it. Although that is the one I will most likely remember!

[cough cough] I've been home sick with a nasty cold. PLEASE SEND SOUP. [cough cough]
Oh, cute baby stuff.

Nothing beats soup when it's cold, you are so right! Even down here in the "sunny south" the cold air hit us this morning, but to us the 42 degrees was as bad as your 13!. Soup is a good idea - I think I'll go make some.
Love that little pink and white sweater. No babies for me to knit for though.

Mmmm. Soup. I love soup, and could eat it everyday right along with you.

What a cheery photo of the veggies. I love making soup as well, I always make a huge pot and freeze some for those blech days when I don't want to cook. I think it is very important to put the celery leaves in as well. I learned how to make beef and chicken soups from my ex-bf's Greek grandmam. Oh soooo good.
We got some cold weather here too, I am hoping snow will soon follow.
Your baby knit looks so soft.

Yum soup!
And boy, it was chilly here this morning! I think a gradual transition would have been better.

I didn't know that, but I shall it to my Things About Sandy list.

I'm doing the soup thing today, too. I roasted up some chicken parts and onions last night, deglazed the pan, and poured all of it into a stock pot with water. Today I'll add more veggies and simmer till the meat falls off the bone, and then I'll strain the stock and probably do a barley soup with it. And I'll make a couple of loaves of oatmeal bread.
I'm not a big fan of picking chicken bones, but it's worth it for the finished product.
Stay warm and enjoy your SOUP.
