01.21.2007 :: Red scarf with Panache

DSC08009.JPG
herringbone rib scarf for the Red Scarf Project, 2007
Yarn: Knitpicks Panache, colorway Cranberry, a wonderful mix of Alpaca, Cashmere, silk and merino.
Needle Size: US9
Pattern: Herringbone Rib Scarf designed by the wonderfully talented Li of Life's a Stitch. A free pattern that she will share with you if you did not get yours yet. You should. It's a beautiful pattern. And free. For the asking. Leave her a comment and ask nicely. She shares! You will not regret it. This is a beautiful scarf pattern. Fun to knit, gorgeous to behold.
Closeups?

And a good looking back side too (Oh my! I just felt like I was a dating service or a man auctioneer or something. For charity, of course. Come on! ) :)

The color is all wrong. It is in reality a much deeper red. Cranberry describes it perfectly. For some reason it is a bit color shy today. I even braved the 10F degree weather to take an outside photo and it made not one bit of difference. You'd think a wonderful scarf would be in it's glory in cold weather and want to show it's true colors. Nope.
And believe me, the irony of me standing outside in frigid weather with the winter wind blowing through me while I am taking a picture of a scarf and not wearing one is NOT lost on me.

What a lovely scarf! Thanks for the heads up on this pattern! I just left a comment on Li's blog. If you don't mind me asking, how many balls of Panache does it take?

Posted by: Bear Knits on 01.26.2007 AT 10:05 AM

I'm glad you like the Panache. I have 11 balls waiting to be turned into a poncho!

The scarf is fantastic!!! Love it! I must get that pattern!

Sandy,

I love the scarf and now have my own copy of the pattern. However, your mirepoix shot has inspired me greatly in the soup-making dept! I just wonder how many nurturing, soul-warming pots of soup have been generated by your artistic appreciation of something so basic and so beautiful. Thanks! Laurie

I was just thinking, perchance the silk in the yarn is making it a wee bit shiny and therefore reflecting the flash, did you try it without a flash?

Posted by: Tracey on 01.23.2007 AT 06:20 PM

LOL, yep, that's funny. I often wonder what the neighbors think when they see me taking pictures of my FO's outside.

I'm on my way to copy this scarf pattern. Thanks for sharing.

Sandy, that is a really neat-looking scarf! Love it.

Hi Sandy!

I just wanted to ask if you could update your link to the Knitting Bloggers website. It switched addresses on January 1st. The new url is:

Thanks!

Red can be hard in pictures. That's a great scarf, Sandy! Thanks for the link. I missed that on Li's blog.

The scarf is beeeautiful, as are you, sugar.

Very, very nice. Thanks for the heads up about the pattern.

Isn't that scarf going to be hard to give away?

Gorgeous!

Oh wow! That's gorgeous! It reminds me of the diagonal rib socks from IK, which I've had on my to-do list for ages now. And I bet it feels wonderful, with that blend of luxurious fibers...

I'd be sorely tempted to keep that scarf for myself, if I were you. ;-)

Hi, Sandy! I wanted to thank you for bringing this reversible herringbone rib scarf pattern to my attention. Seeing your lovely version of it got me over to Li's blog to comment and request a copy of the pattern. You were smart to use a solid color for your scarf, allowing the pretty stitch pattern to show up clearly. I appreciate your showing us the back of the scarf. I've been reading your blog for a long time but am a reluctant commenter. However, I always enjoy your photos of knitting projects, the sky, and Fig. Thanks again, and best wishes for a happy 2007.

It's so pretty! What a lovely red scarf. Stay warm, okay!

Posted by: Kathy on 01.21.2007 AT 11:57 AM

Oh my goodness, you might be the first to risk frostbite from photographing a herringbone rib! Thanks for all the exposure (a really bad double pun, eh?) I'm still meeting so many nice people asking for the pattern.

Nicely knit! And you're not alone in the photographing winter wear in winter weather without wearing winter wear. With that sentence, you can see what it does to the brain.

Beautiful job on that scarf. And great detail photos, too. Love those little cable-crossy things.
And, yeah, it's 12 degrees here this morning, so I know what you mean.

Oh, it's so BEAUTIFUL, Sandy! I have some of that yarn in the stash (I even dyed some red), so I know how positively sensuous it is. Yum! A lucky person will get it.
