03.04.2007 :: Winner, gratitude, floods and tiramisu

Well. How can a knitter thank other knitters for an outpouring like that one? Thank you, honestly, from the bottom of my real, not virtual heart. Please everyone, join hands and let's sing a rousing verse of "we are the world, we are the knitters"
What? The winner? Sure. I had 109 comments. Not all of which were bonafide comments (some were corrections and such). With the help of the handy dandy randomizer, found here: http://www.randomizer.org/form.htm it appears that NAT is the winner! How can we all not love Nat with a self portrait like that on her site? I love Nat. Do you?
But honestly, I am the winner here. 109 comments. My cup overfloweth. I have not even started emailing my thanks around. My weekend has been filled. Not a minute to knit or email.
Why? You ask?
2 visiting college kids. If you are able to read between the lines, this means MOUNTAINS of laundry around my home. Mt. Everest of laundry. I do believe that Derek has not one clean piece of clothing at school and this forced him to visit his parents one week before spring break. Even he has standards, apparently when it comes to how dirty is dirty.
Which is a good thing.
So, this weekend, filled with things like this:

A bit of snow, soon turned into this:

A lot of water in my driveway, where I usually park my car. I could not park here unless I had a canoe handy. The upside? We owned waterfront property there for a little while.

Fig did not know what to make of the pond that used to be the neighbor's yard!
But things got better when we had friends in for dinner and scattergories night.
Dinner was chicken curry, adapted from this recipe. I have changed the recipe. I'll share if anyone's interested.
And the piece d'resistance?

Tiramisu cupcakes! They were a huge hit and really not that hard to make. I encourage you to try the great recipe found HERE.
I omitted the marsala for the frosting because I did not have any, I couldn't make myself go out for some and I was fresh out of money. So I did without and it was delish anyway.
Also, instead of making the Espresso syrup with powdered espresso, I had Andy make me a cup of Espresso, fresh brewed, combined with the sugar, no additional water.
They are a bit TOO good, if you know what I mean?
The dryer just buzzed. Gotta run!

Dreaming of me? I'm not sure how I feel about that ;-)
I remember going home to my mom's house with acres of laundry! Filled the entire hatch of the car!
Oh, and I like your lake.

Happy Bloggiversary! I am quite behind! Have a great time with the kids and hope things dry out, seems Fig knows how to handle the weather;) And thank you for sharing the yummy recipes!

Tiramisu cupcakes? For real? YUM... :-)

You're lucky that lake didn't flow right into your basement! I was so sure you were going to say that next. I'm so glad it didn't happen! We've had enough indoor lakes to last us several years, I think!

Our laundry is already out of hand, I am nervous to think of what it may look like when the Monkey heads off to college in a few years. Oh those cupcakes look divine, my husband does not like coffee, and if I DID make it out of real espresso the Monkey couldn't have any, so naturally, I would be obligated to eat them all myself...right?

When I went to college (in MA) my mom made sure that I had over 30 pairs of underwear - so at least I could do laundry once a month!

Meanwhile my next door neighbor would send her laundry home to WI for washing! So I am glad that Derek isn't doing THAT!

yum. pass me a cupcake!

I only stopped bringing laundry home when I moved 3200 miles away!

OMG, that cupcake looks FABULOUS!!

As for the waterfront property, man, girl---you got it all. :)

Posted by: Kim on 03.06.2007 AT 08:03 AM

Oh, my....those cupcakes look unbelievable! Must make them soon.

I was away last week and missed your blogiversary! Happy one!

Girl-your kids are old. Certainly old enough to do their own laundry. Meg was home when we got home and last night had taken over the laundry room and was still doing it at 9:30, when her dad still had to drive her back to Boston. I was peeved. Laundry is sort of one of my breaking points. I freed up so much of my life when I had them start doing their own. Now everyone does their own in my house. Even the fifteen year old has been for a few years. I'll do Pete's if it is around when I am doing mine, but he likes to do his own. I know you love to do the laundry, more than knitting and all of that, but it will do them good to do it themselves. I hope you know that I love you and am partly kidding (partly not-for your own time's sake) and don't want to sound at all like I am insulting you or being rude. You get me, right? :)

Now-off to Market Basket to get the ingredients for cupcakes!

I can't believe how calm you are about all that water.......

Posted by: Holly on 03.05.2007 AT 03:53 PM

I too am tackling a mountain of laundry. All my kids (3) reside at home, but I swear the laundry multiplies while I'm not looking. The cupcakes are.....sinfully good looking. Hope your basement is dry, but that puddle is very close or lapping the sides of your bulkhead.

Ooooh, the cupcakes sound delish!

Tiramisu CUPCAKES?!?! There goes my diet...

Wow, that's a lot of comments! Lucky you. :)

Fig looks like he's hoping for some small ducks to take up residence!

That is one amazing looking cupcake. I looooove me some tiramisu.

Criminy! How did the guests get in? Did you send out a dinghy for 'em? That dinner sounds so delicious -- especially right this minute, when I am literally STARVING. All I've had to eat today is too much chocolate cake. I'm so bad. But things are looking up: I've got a turkey breast in da oven.

(is your basement flooded? dare I ask?)

Posted by: Norma on 03.04.2007 AT 04:38 PM

Wow! Waterfront property. I've always wanted a friend with waterfront property.

Posted by: Carole on 03.04.2007 AT 03:40 PM

Poor Fig needs water wings just in case.

I'm so glad you're having a good weekend. Make the kids fold! ;^)

The part of me that thinks like a five year old boy to try to keep up with my five year old boy can't help thinking it would be fun to have a rubber dinghy in that driveway.

Speaking of my five year old boy, I should probably go check what that noise upstairs is...

Those cupcakes looks yummy. Thanks for the link. Hope your driveway dries up soon. How's the fishing?

Posted by: Barb on 03.04.2007 AT 12:53 PM

I know exactly what you mean - since Katrina, my two grown daughters are living back at home. So much for my empty nest! And yes, we go mountain-climbing every weekend - mountains of laundry, that is.
