03.16.2007 :: Finished Sweater

Wearing a new sweater to work around all the muggles is like walking into the building like a beauty contestant winner but no one notices. I'm clutching at the proverbial bouquet of flowers, wearing my sash that says "Green Mountain Spinnery Sweater", waving the wave to my adoring fans but not one person notices.
Hrmph. My Crown is slipping!
:)
As you may have concluded, I finished the Green Mountain Spinnery Sweater. More than that, I found the perfect buttons. Buttons are for more than closure you know. (better pictures of the buttons another day)
DSC08442.JPG
Pattern: Knitting Pure and Simple neck down cardigan
Yarn: Green Mountain Mohair, colorway Moss
Needle size: US7
Buttons: Bonnie Maresh glass, purchased at my favorite place, Yarns in the Farms
Snowstorm provided by Mother Nature.

Note: bathroom mirror photo makes it appear that I am missing a front tooth. I assure you, this is not the case. Due to the snowstorm, the window is covered with, well, you know....snow. Snow on a window? Apparently makes me look like perhaps I need a dentist. :)
I love the sweater. I wish that it did not look like it doesn't fit very well because I feel like it fits like it was made for me.(you have to admit, THAT was quite a sentence!) I love it!
And...allow me one little Blowing of kisses while clutching my almost dead bouquet of flowers, will ya?

Lovely sweater. I'm glad someone else likes buttons as much as I do. Smile.

OMG, girl---I love it!! Green Mountain Spinnery....puuurrrr. And that color looks great on you! A classic!! I'm going to have to put that on pattern on my "do" list, which is about 3,722 items long by now.

It's so GREAT to see you---tooth or no tooth. ;)

*stands up giving raucous round of applause* Oh Oh! Over Here! Miss Green Mountain Spinnery Sweater...may I have your autograph? Will you sign my knitting bag?

Posted by: Tracey on 03.21.2007 AT 12:54 PM

Great sweater, great colour! Muggles! That is exactly why I comment on any and all handknits I see, I just may find another kindred spirit in an unexpected place.

Posted by: elan on 03.20.2007 AT 01:20 PM

It's beautiful! That the muggles didn't notice it was handmade is actually a complement - if they notice, that means you probably messed something up! ;o)

Posted by: JessaLu on 03.20.2007 AT 11:59 AM

Hooray! It's done! I bet you were awfully glad to have a new sweater over the weekend. Especially a GREEN one! :-)

Now just keep Fig away from it... ;-)

Lovely, lovely, lovely. Isn't it a booger to find just the right buttons for a cardi? I think from now on I will buy buttons first THEN knit a cardi to match-it's got to be easier! Good Job!

Love the images of the sweater against the snow. And no need to worry about the fit, it looks great to us!

Hilarious and so true! I gifted a pair of (green) socks last night at a restaurant bar and the bartender asked the person if she had just taken off her socks and put them on the bar. With a wrinkled up nose too! Why can't people remember to oooh and aaah at the right moments? hahaha

Posted by: Deb on 03.18.2007 AT 01:57 PM

Your crown is SOOO not slipping in my book!! The sweater is AWESOME!! I have dubbed the sweater I started MONTHS ago my "forever sweater"...because apparently it is going to take me forever to finish it!! Your's looks FABULOUS oh great knitting queen!!!!!!!!

Sandy, your sweater came out nicely. Love the yarn. I've been looking at some of this and some Blackwater Abbey, too. Maybe a bohus for next winter. Who says I can't knit a winter sweater in the summer?

Gorgeous sweater! I would have notice your crown had you walked into my school wearing it. :) Great job!

Posted by: Kimberly on 03.18.2007 AT 04:36 AM

Great sweater! Great yarn too. You'll love it a long time.

What do you mean, it doesn't look like it fits well??? It looks fabulous.

Posted by: susan on 03.17.2007 AT 11:05 PM

You should have heaps of wear out that gorgeous sweater!I hope you have some cold weather left to enjoy it!!!!Speaking of which I must get cracking on my projects so at least I can wear them this winter!!!

Posted by: cathy on 03.17.2007 AT 10:18 PM

I love the color! It looks so nice and cozy. I'm surrounded by snow too, so sweaters look 100% cozier today, even just pictures of them on the web.

Posted by: Jenn on 03.17.2007 AT 01:22 PM

Great sweater. I love the buttons. Clapping round and round here:)

Posted by: Barb on 03.17.2007 AT 01:06 PM

[applause][gasps of wonder] [applause] That is a fabulous looking sweater - I, too, love that colour and it looks like it will get lots of wear. :-) I was thinking of you "Saturday Sky" and looked out my window to a monotone grey overcast day. But still, "Happy Saturday"!

Posted by: Terri on 03.17.2007 AT 01:00 PM

YEAH! It looks like it fits well, and that is a great color for you. Nicely done.

Posted by: claudia on 03.17.2007 AT 12:59 PM

I love that sweater! The color is my favorite shade of green, and from what I can see, those are some beautiful buttons. I think it looks great on you!

Posted by: Terby on 03.17.2007 AT 12:42 PM

Looks awesome!!!

Posted by: Andrea on 03.17.2007 AT 12:28 PM

OK, you are getting a standing "O" here!! That is gorgeous and you will enjoy wearing it for years to come. I love the bouquet and the crown with the sash btw!:)
Speaking of flowers, how is that amarilys (sp?) doing?? pics anyone??

nicely done! it is a pretty color on you. your coworkers are the ultimate in muggles. i know people who aren't knitters but they are creative and they notice handiwork when they see it even if they choose to express themselves differently.

Posted by: maryse on 03.17.2007 AT 08:31 AM

Ooh, looks lovely, Sandy! I hope you'll bring it to Knit Night, so I can see it up close. I guess it's time to start knitting sweaters that require buttons - I've been focused on pullovers.

Posted by: Kathleen Fivel on 03.17.2007 AT 08:17 AM

That's why you come to us! We scream, we cheer, we clap. It looks really good, including the snowstorm picture. (Quite topical.)

Great ad for GMS yarn.

Beautiful job on the sweater! It looks great on you!

Fabulous sweater, and it looks great on you!

Posted by: Jane on 03.16.2007 AT 11:57 PM

Lovely! Looks good - and must be worn again and again. I do want a close up of the buttons, too.

Posted by: Cathy on 03.16.2007 AT 10:09 PM

That looks like the kind of sweater you'll grab and wear over and over and over.

Can't wait for a better shot of the buttons. I love buttons.

Posted by: Ruth on 03.16.2007 AT 09:58 PM

Fabulous, I love it, looks like a sweater you will wear and wear and wear.

Posted by: Angie on 03.16.2007 AT 09:23 PM

It looks wonderful, Sandy!! Just perfect. ; )

Posted by: Vicki on 03.16.2007 AT 09:18 PM

Lovely sweater, and it looks terrific on you! I must check out that pattern. Mountain Mohair is the best yarn - I have a 12 year old MM cardi that still looks fabulous. Even tho' I never found the right buttons, so it doesn't have any.

Posted by: Catherine on 03.16.2007 AT 08:27 PM

It looks just lovely!!! So sorry that people at work didn't notice - perhaps they need to see it again!!!

Posted by: chris on 03.16.2007 AT 07:32 PM

I'm so happy to see your smiling (toothless) face that nothing else matters;-)

Posted by: margene on 03.16.2007 AT 06:55 PM

I love it! It looks terrific on you! Hmmm. . . I wonder what it's like to finish a sweater?!?

Posted by: Kathy on 03.16.2007 AT 06:50 PM

The sweater--and the sash, tiara, flowers, and wave--all look fantastic. Your analogy is spot on, too--it's exactly how I feel, too. And then you're left with the struggle--do I say something? Or will that sound like bragging??

Thank heaven you have your people to understand exactly how you feel. Wear your crown proudly!

Posted by: --Deb on 03.16.2007 AT 06:37 PM

I love that sweater and it looks perfect on you! I hate that muggles don't notice a new handknit sweater.

Posted by: Karen on 03.16.2007 AT 06:32 PM

I *love* that sweater! It looks like it was made for you! LOL! If I ever finish my cardi, I have no doubt the muggles in my office will be made aware of the presence of a handknit by the only other knitter around, and that's fine with me! I'll curtsey and smile.

Posted by: elizabeth on 03.16.2007 AT 06:21 PM

Sandy, It is beautiful!

I'm bracing for that snow to hit us... Any minute now.. I hear 2 feet! :/

Posted by: pippi on 03.16.2007 AT 06:17 PM

I'm cheering and applauding, because it's fab ! A beautiful cardigan, fabulous colour, great fit. It IS perfect. I bet you wear it loads, for many years to come.
Fab !

I think it's gorgeous! We have similar taste in colors. Moss green is one of my favorites.

Oh hi! This is Norma's Abigail. I like the buttons and your sweater looks beautifully store-bought. And also I wanted to tell you that I like the missing tooth, too. It should be your new trademark.

Posted by: Abigail on 03.16.2007 AT 06:03 PM

LOVE IT!!! And I just left a comment on a blog how buttons are like jewelry. The perfect accesory and they just FINISH a piece! CONGRATULATIONS MY BEAUTY QUEEN!

Posted by: Cara on 03.16.2007 AT 06:02 PM

I think it looks great - I think Cookie is right about the raised camera arm messing with you.

I hate wearing a new sweater to places with only Muggles. Talk about depressing when no one notices. My husband tried to console by reminding me that if they don't ask, then it's a sign that it is great, because it doesn't look homemade (as opposed to handmade, which IS a good thing). It only works sometimes.

Posted by: Jenn C. on 03.16.2007 AT 05:57 PM

It's beautiful. The sleeves are the right length, the neckline lies smoothly, it doesn't gape between the buttons or wrinkle strangely - it fits perfectly. I love the color.

::throwing bouquets of red and pink roses::

Sandy! Sandy! It's so beeyooooooteeful!

It really IS. It fits GREAT, and I bet it feels like a dream. We're almost glad for the return of the snowy weather, so you can wear the sweater. Can't wait to see the closeup of the kickass buttons!

Posted by: Norma on 03.16.2007 AT 05:45 PM

It's great - and I love the color on you, honey bun!

Posted by: Carole on 03.16.2007 AT 05:41 PM

Very well done and it looks great on you! I'd like to make the same one , but the pullover version instead. Green Mountain Mohair, eh? Off to check colors on their site.

Posted by: Manise on 03.16.2007 AT 05:35 PM

Sandy! :D

I think the raised camera arm is what's doing you the disservice regarding fit. I love it! Well done!
