03.29.2007 :: The yarn that keeps on curling

pink sock
Soothing sock, just what the doctor ordered! The yarn is the Artyarns supermerino, pink especially for spring. The pattern is the garter rib sock from Sensational Knitted Socks which was gifted to me by the wonderfully generous Terri! (happy Thursday, Terri!) If you don't have this book, you should seriously think of getting it. Well, not if you don't like knitting socks. You should WANT to knit socks. Then this book would be perfect for you. If you despise knitting socks, then perhaps we can find a better choice for you. You know?
The only thing about this yarn?

Curly Que not welcomed here. I dislike it when sock yarn kinks like that. But some of the best of the best are guilty of this infraction. (like koigu and socks that rock) I am forever letting it hang and spin. Doesn't help, just gives me something to do.
As I sat at Knit night with some wonderful, inspiring knitters (and not too shabby people either), I had barely finished the words "I have so much sock stash that I could knit for a year and not make a dent" and I had a NEW BOOK and sock yarn picked out.
It's kind of a sickness. But one I'll gladly keep!

UPDATE TIME
Thank you for all of your good thoughts. Your support and knitterly thoughts sustained a whole family of worrieds on the day of my mother in law's second pacemaker insertion. The procedure was successful, no pokes or holes where they did not belong this time. Say it with me, knitters, PHEW!
Seriously, thank you. What would I do without you?
(God, I'm turning into a steaming pile of mush lately. What IS up with that???)
Go knit something. Nothing more to see here.....
:)

Thank goodness as is well with your mother-in-law. My prayers and good thoughts are on their way. :-)

Glad things are getting quiet on the MIL front.

Try MORE Sensational Knitted Socks. Just got it.

When good yarn gets kinky! Heh. Yep, I got used to doing that hang-and-spin thing about once per round when I was knitting with Louet Gems. So far that yarn has been the worst offender. I was determined never to use it again, but it made such a great, soft, smooth fabric when it was all knitted up and washed...

I'm glad to see (and sorry at the same time, for your sake) that commercial sock yarn does that too - I'm forever dangling and unwinding my spun yarn while knitting! I thought it was because I was a newbie and put in too much twist.

I often find winding twice helps with that phone cord twist problem. Wind the second time starting with the outside end.

Glad to know things turned out on a positive note for your MIL....and isn't it wonderful to know that there are so many "angels" out there that care......nothing in the world better than a group of knitters....whether they be in your neighborhood or scattered around the world.....we are one sisterhood no doubt!!!

So glad to hear that your MIL is doing great! Yay doctors!

And my sock yarns are always doing that curley-cue thing too. I am starting to wonder if it is the ballwinder putting extra twist on the fiber? Maybe??!? I am constantly 'dangling' my yarn and letting it spin.

[waves] Happy Thursday!!
That yarn is yummy - kinda like Neopolitan ice cream! I have that book but I haven't flipped through it in a while. [note to self: look at that book!]

I'm with you on twisty yarn... it's a hazard. I'm glad things with your MIL are going well, will continue to send the good thoughts.

Posted by: Laurel on 03.29.2007 AT 06:34 PM

Oh good. Glad all is going well.
The sock is pretty even if the yarn is twisty.

Collective *phew* over here too. Still knitting with you however. You're stuck with me :-)

Great news. And the mush is caused by hormones you dufus.

Somehow I missed the news about your MIL - but I'm SO GLAD it's all worked out! Your socks are a very happy color.

I'm so glad it went well for her. *hugs*

Gotta love knitters. We're always ready and willing to help out when someone needs an idea. Btw, do you have any yellow sock yarn? ;^)
