05.13.2007 :: Searching for my roots

It's not working for me
I have knit about 1/2 of a stitch all week. But for now, I need to rip out the foot of the gryffindor sock before it kills me. I did a 2x2 rib for the leg but somehow got the brilliant idea to do a stockinette foot. Wrong. How did I forget that the resulting look resembles bigfoot. Or elephant foot. Neither one an attractive option. I will rip this back and continue on with the ribbing. Lessons learned and all.
Avocado Cam:
Oh. My. God. LOOK!
Finding my roots
I cannot tell you how excited I am to watch the progress of this little sprout. So, happy, indeed, that I put my new mini Garden Gnome next to the avocado garden to watch over the progress.
a gnome to watch over the avocados
Somebody has to be on watch and this little guy doesn't seem to mind!
Hey, gnome
another one cracking up
This is the 3rd seed to crack. Crack me a smile!

On this Mother's Day, I reflect about Fathers. Father in Law, specifically. He has been in the hospital for the past week and has been diagnosed with a "lung disease" most likely emphysema. He is on oxygen 24 hours a day and will be forever. This has been devastating news to him and the family and we have watched him physically change in one week's time. So, while I stayed away from the blog this past week, I was busy worrying. My worry has just begun, though.
In the meantime, I hope to bury myself a bit into the knitting and not ignoring it as I have been. And taking my delight from a little root on one little seed.
Growth is life. Life is good.

I've FINALLY gotten an avacado pit from the fresh guacamole I made yesterday. Thanks for the inspiration!

Sending warm thoughts for your FIL and you and your family. I gotta love the Avocado Cam!

As for the sock, go with what you know. I now swear by short-row heels but have yet to figure out PGR's method.

Sending my prayers and best wishes to FIL.

Sandy, I am really enjoying the avocado cam, and now that you have added a gnome....*sighs*

I have this weird idea. I want to get a garden gnome...the ones that are kind of squatting, with their hands on their knees...and put it in the bathroom across from the toilet. Freak out any house guests ya know, have a gnome concentrating on you whilst visiting the commode. I'm strange, I make no excuses for myself.

Sorry about your FIL. Best wishes to you both.

I'm so sorry to hear about your father-in-law. It is so hard to sit back and watch while a loved one goes through a medical crisis!!

Sorry to hear about FIL - sending healing thoughts his way. Thank goodness for knitting - what would we do without it, I'm always more productive when I'm worrying about something :-)

If you wanna talk "offline" about the lung disease, feel free to email. My mom has emphysema complicated by COPD and CHF. It's hard, it's complicated and it's devastating... but, we got through it.. and we get through it everyday, every hour, every minute. I moved home after college (and stayed there for 7 more years) taking care of my mom. Just as she was starting to be more "able", Dad got sick. yesterday, as my mom struggled to get up the 11 steps to my apt for a mom day brunch, I had to remind myself that just having my mom is a good thing. There were so many days when I thought i wouldn't.

Sigh. Not you, too? You and I, we are two peas in a pod, are we not? XOXOXO

Love the avocado root, babe. When can I come over for guacamole and margaritas?
Sorry about your FIL.

How's this: Knit/felt an oxygen tank tote for FIL to use. Knit it in the most outrageous colors that he will tolerate to remind him that he can still get out and about and is still part of this world.

That's where you've been. I'm so sorry, love. *huggles*
