08.12.2007 :: Summer fix its
Yesterday 4 men descended upon my home and did not emerge until a new roof was in place. 4 men, 1 day, 1 new roof. Impressive to this construction newbie!

This is the before photo. Red in all it's glory! It never blended into the neighborhood, it was kind of quirky but it leaked. For a long time. When Andy brought the samples home to pick a new roof shingle he implored "Please, no red!". Fine. He does not appreciate quirky anyway!

That's better! Now, you all are probably more construction savvy than I, but ONE day! There's lots more to do as you can spy in the photo! You can also see our new chimney that was built last week! Won't Santa be happy this year when he visits and no more crumbling chimney or leaky roof?
Our home is 104 years old and it was starting to look it's age. This is the summer of a little TLC. And a summer of being poor. But choices have to be made~!
Fig would beg to differ. He doesn't like construction men. At all. Poor Fig had a tough day being on alert and slinking around the house. But around 3 pm, even HE had had enough of the chicken scene.

Proving that even scaredy cats have to forget about the anxiety for a little while and get some Zzzzz's.
But tomorrow, my blogging friends. TOMORROW! I get to meet Li. I have "known" her for years and never thought I'd get to meet her in person, living on the other side as she does. We'll be going to Patternworks if anyone wants to accidentally BUMP into us!

Congrats on the new roof!
Men who know what they're doing can work pretty quickly. ;^) Poor little Fig. I remember getting a new roof. The kitties were not happy that week. Yes, a whole week. Only one man, tho.
Patternworks? How was it? What did you get me? Did you have a good time? :D

Poor Fig! ;-) But I'm so happy for you, with your new, non-leaky roof and non-crumbly chimney. AND a trip to Patternworks to boot!... Bring back some Koigu, I hear they have lots! :-)

Lucky you! I have met Li several times and she is a wonderful, gracious knitter. You will have a great time. I'll look forward to the report on both of your blogs.

4 guys who do roofs for a living can work pretty damn fast. i'm not surprised that it only took one day.
we've got windows on order to install before the winter comes and then next spring, it's time to do our roof and new siding.

Nice new roof! Sorry that I missed you yesterday by about 5 minutes- summer baseball championship finals.

Shingling goes pretty fast when you get in the rhythm. You pretty much have to do them in one day... otherwise you're asking for rain! ;)

I have been lurking for awhile, reading and accumulating knitting tips, etc., but I had never heard of Patternworks!! I quilted for a long time (until arthritis took up residence in my right thumb) so have pretty much switched over to knitting so I'm playing catch up. I have been to Keepsake Quilting quite a few times (even if you don't sew, it's a place that will make you buy fabric) but now will have to plan a trip to Patternworks. Where is it in relationship to Keepsake Quilting?

Lovely to see you today! A big hello to Li!

I was just as gobsmacked when our roof was done in a day - not even a full day, since they didn't show up until 11:30 and were finished by 5:30 that evening.
Hope you had fun at Patternworks!

Congrats on the brand new roof! Woo!
Fig is such a cutie. I'm glad he was able to find the energy for a nap.

Dang! I wish it was NEXT Sunday...I'd accidentally bump into you. I may have to go down to your neck o' the woods for a seminar.

Great roof! Looks like the guys did a very good job (although I imagine that Fig kept their noses to the grindstone ... he looks like quite a taskmaster).
